  • Chris/W6HFP from Buddipole Antennas demonstrates setting up the Buddipole Versatee Vertical. He also shows in detail two methods of tuning the antenna for resonance (minimum SWR) by using the antenna analyzer (MFJ-259) and by ear using band noise.

Many Buddipole users have modified how the coax connects to the VersaTee. Much more secure than using the pins provided on the coax. Also, I've used the Buddipole set up as a vertical for years with great success on HF 40M - 10M. Got my WAS and DXCC using a Buddipole in my backyard. BTW, I live in an HOA community and thanks to Buddipole I'm able to operate.

The Buddipole coil that comes with the Buddipole ™ Deluxe pack takes one and can be used to work with the vertical antenna?

Still relevant and awesome 10 years later. I picked up a Buddipole Deluxe kit from a friend and started researching the different configurations. I ordered the painters pole adapter from Buddipole and then found this video. I had already received my confirmation email that my adapter was packaged and ready to ship when I sent a quick email asking if I can still add the counterpoise and adapter to my order. Chris responded within minutes that he would add what I needed and get it sent off right away. I am glad I found this video because I am really looking forward to all of the different configurations that this system has to offer. Watching Chris use the clip across the leads to find peak noise is an awesome tip that I never would have considered.
As a new SOTA activator, I just brought my Buddipole to W7A/AE-035 Baker Butte Lookout, up in Northern Arizona, and I made a barefoot contact to Florida using my KX3 and the Buddipole Deluxe setup as a horizontal dipole. That was a voice contact on LSB.
Great antenna and great customer service!!
What more can you ask for??

I've always used my Buddipole as a horizontal dipole. This year for the 2021 Florida QSO Party I am going to try using a vertical and see how it goes.

@MinkeySimon If you consider setting up an antenna a hassle, you may want to re-evaluate your choice in hobbies. lol

@MinkeySimon Hassle? We think its an amazingly cool design. Consider that he is explaining all this as he goes. It could easily be done in just a few minutes if he were not explaining it all. DX-Peditions sometimes take days to set up antennas.
Deploying an effective antenna is key, there is no such thing as "Plug in and go" if you want to be effective. Perhaps some antenna theory study is in order?
    Enjoy.

Interesting other portable coil verticals like wolf rivers and others work great tune to a very low SWR with the ground poise on the ground.

I sure wish I would have watched this video BEFORE field day. I was counting on the instructions to walk me through the various setups. Oops, I should have listened to myself when I said "Self, practice setting it up first and make a few contacts before field day". I was getting 19 SWR on my attempt to go on 40m tonight. I had to give up. I'll be on 40m tomorrow night, trust me.

what would happen if you mounted this on top of your home which happens to have a flat metal roof and used that entire flat metal roof as the counterpoise, would that work?.... the counterpoise is definitely over 3 feet off the ground and totally surrounds the antenna

Borrowed a buddi vertical. Only issue was never got 20 really right as seem to over shoot adjustments. 1.6:1 14.185 with feeling my large chicken coup house affected the settings. Moved 18 feet out better but no room to go further. Coax was 62 feet to rig. Could this have affected counterpoise?.

Can you use the black knob directly for the counter poise or you must use the side arm connectors?
