  • Watch as RouterBob and CNC Shawn show you how to use a CNC router to create dovetail drawers from baltic birch. KCD has a dovetail package in their software that makes it easier than ever to setup the file and cut. We also incorporated the OPT 6 watt laser to engrave custom logos on the drawers.

    I've been a journeyman cabinetmaker for about 25 years. I use Blum undermount drawer slide hardware. I find it frustrating that people are still going through the extra work of notching their drawer boxes for the hardware. It's totally unnecessary if you just make the ends shorter than the sides.

      Thank you for the comment, we understand the frustration. Each person and Shop has their own preferences - there is really not a right or wrong answer here if it accomplishes the end goal.

    would you recommend using unfinsished Baltic birch as opposed to prefinished? So that they can be sanded down. My dovetails dont seem to come out perfect.

    • @shopsabre
      @shopsabre  Před 7 měsíci

      Either works with appropriate setup, if they aren’t coming out right it’s likely tooling setup/adjustment in the programming

    I just got dovetail setup on my cnc machine however due to the lack of contact area in the dovetail joint I realized that there isn't a good contact area for the glue. I noticed that the glue goes down in the round area from the profile tool and the glue on the tips get wiped off. How do you glue yours?

    • @shopsabre
      @shopsabre  Před rokem

      Less glue is more in most cases…. The joint will require very little glue when adjusted properly within your software. Visit our website to see examples.

    well i dont think we will be getting baltic birch now for a loong time ,,any other material that could work , ?

    • @shopsabre
      @shopsabre  Před 2 lety

      A large variety of materials could be used but the quality will vary with it. Baltic works great because of the many plys. Could try Apple ply, usually more expensive but very similar to Baltic.

      We recommend connecting with Mozaik as getting the settings right in Mozaik is a big part of the success, our tech team can help with tool setup and machine functionality but ultimately the tolerances you set will determine the results with the joint

    It's very frustrating when the 30 seconds of content is hidden inside 15 minute videos. And it really isn't a 'how to', is it? This is really just informational and "Click this button here."
    I do not know how to make these dovetails. After the video, I still do not know how to make them, but I know there is a software, some software, somewhere, that has an existing plan and configuration and tool settings. I don't have that or access to that, but it exists somewhere. Then I have to click a button. I don't really know which button, because it was only a flash compared to the greater video. But there have to be existing plans, some kind of selection and then I let the button do the work.
    But, really, none of that is "How to", this is an information that somewhere is a product that does something but I have no idea how to do it or apply it to my projects.

    • @shopsabre
      @shopsabre  Před 3 měsíci

      Thank you for comment, we appreciate the feedback and will try to address this in future videos. That said, in our video we do mention what software is used and ultimately, the creation of the dovetail is done by the software product itself. Again, we build the CNC machines but the software companies ultimately support their product features, we just show these capabilities and show that Dovetails can be made with a CNC machine using the appropriate tools & software. We do have private videos available to our clients that get more into the finer details and explanation / training but these are private and a benefit to our clients on our SabreNation University page. Again, appreciate your comment and we will again try to better address this in the future content.

      @@shopsabre I think what you don't understand is that "You do mention it" This isn't HGTV. I don't watch information youtube videos for fun. This isn't just running the background as noise and it wouldn't even go in that algorithm.
      It's called clickbait and this is really shitty Boomer clickbait. I don't actually care about anything other than the answer to my question. I click on your video to get that answer. When a "How To" video is 15 minutes long and the takeaway is "Buy this software that does it for you."
      There is zero value in the video and the title is clickbait. It is a complete waste of time for anyone who wants to learn how to make Dovetail Drawers with their CNC. It is so ridiculous and pathetic that an entire generation of people think this is valuable. The entire Boomer generation are functionally useless children.
