- I don't really do a WHOLE lot of covers these days JUST for fun - usually, if I'm covering a song that I didn't write, it's because it somehow pertains to a job (like the recent Bad Wolves video, or the Periph/BTBAM covers, being that I transcribed books for Matt & Blake). But this tune is indeed something I did just for fun, & had been wanting to do for awhile!
Extol's self-titled album is easily one of my favorite metal albums to be released in recent years. The production is incredible & the songs are great. They're a fairly unknown band too, so definitely check out the record if you haven't heard of them! I contacted the band & asked if they'd be willing to send me an album stem to use for a video mix, & I was very stoked that they were in fact willing to! "Betrayal" is one of my favorites from the album.
Mixing was done by Adam "Nolly" Getgood, & as per usual it sounds absolutely phenomenal. Nolly is not only the BEST IN THE BIZ, but also an exceptional human being. If you're looking for mixing / engineering work, please contact him using the link below! Drums are 100% natural (kick too!).

Side note: There is only distorted guitar predominantly on the left side (while the bass & clean guitars are stereo). This was the only stem the band could find, so I had to work with what I got! Nolly tried to center it a bit but could only go so far without causing some phase issues. So for all you audiophiles out there, I figured I'd provide this disclaimer!

Extol are one of the best metal bands. Period.
David Husvik is an incredibly underrated drummer. It's a shame there's so little high quality footage of him playing.

This is super sick man! Love seeing an Extol cover from a pro. Absolutely the best kept secret in metal. I got into extreme metal with Extol. Little did I know they set the bar almost impossibly high! I thought literally all metal bands were gonna be that badass!
Extol are legends. Fleshkiller is just as good \m/ Ole Borud is such a talented songwriter, guitarist, and singer.

Nice to see I'm not crazy in thinking this is a phenomenal album that no one knows about. Also check out Ole Børuds other band Fleshkiller. Their debut album was tight.

Aleks Ulmer absolutely! Such a brilliant band.
Aleks Ulmer check out their older material as well! They are an incredibly talented band, along the same lines as Opeth (who also respects Extol btw). Each album sounds very different. Undeceived is a death metal masterpiece. Synergy is a tech death/thrash masterpiece. And Blueprint Dives, despite a drastic lineup change, is an alternative metal masterpiece.
@@justinburdettemusic I read somewhere Michael Keene is a big fan of Extol too. Could be where Alex heard them from. Also the latest Faceless album has a part in I Am that sounds almost exactly like an Extol song lol.

Fleshkiller is carrying on the Extol banner for now. The main person to write their music lately who also plays all instruments here Plus does clean vocals is the writer for that band too.
Extol just announced the other day that they're actually working on something again so it's a perfect time to get into them!
UPDATE: Unfortunately, Extol themselves are not releasing new material but Christer and David are releasing new material with a new band called Azusa.

So great, God I love Extol, lol. I have the Krona tattoo'd on my left forearm and Celestial Completion off of This is Solid-state Records Vol 1 was a turning point for me in metal. I've had a chance to see them a couple times in California and they were so good and were all so cool and chill afterwards when mingling. Probably the tightest band I've seen live... They played songs I didn't think they would attempt but that was me being foolish, lol. Peace
