Garland is limited in what he can say. Hawley could ask for a closed hearing to gather more accurate information, but that would not get him the publicity he wants. He is probably on the way out of the Senate in 2024 as his chief sponsor, John Danforth, has said endorsing him was one of his biggest mistakes.
