It feels that way because he was so incredibly active as a champion. It’s why he gets the opportunities he gets. He takes care of the UFC and the UFC gives him opportunities because of it. If Dricus isn’t ready for 300 it’s the perfect example of why Izzy is an all time great champion in MMA.

Izzy was a champ 6 fights into the UFC after 14 months and then unified the titles 6 months later. Dricus entered the UFC in Oct of 2020 and just now got to 7 fights and a title.
I get you can look at Wikipedia to see recent fights but actually watching the sport would help you actually understand who the active fighters are. Despite being a champion when DDP entered the UFC in 2020 he has two more fights than DDP since 2020. DDP isn’t a super active guy which is why he probably won’t be ready for 300, just like he wasn’t ready when he had his first chance to fight Izzy.

Izzy needed the break mentally and pysically. Also he needs to be motivated. The version of Izzy vs Pereira to reclaim his belt was fully focused and driven. Against Strickland it's like he didn't want to be there.
Because he thought he was going to fight a guy he really wanted to fight and instead ended up taking on a journeyman coming off of two wins against unranked opponents, after two straight losses and with only one of the wins even being in his weight class.
