- "The Right". 1 Guess why it's called that. Not hard to figure that one out, but this wave is different to any right i've ever surfed. It's hard to compare different waves to each other, but maybe you could say its a similar version of Teahupoo only right, matching its power and quick arrival out of the deep West Australian water. One difference in particular is that after its initial break on the shallow shelf, it quickly falls into a deep section where it can hold you down for a very long time. I'd be lying if i said i was wasn't scared surfing this wave...

More heavy than Teahupoo in a way cus' colder water so more dense and also the reef seems more shallow. I bet they can see it right below the surface when they drop in. Dang scary!
Theres actually alot of footage of this breaking over dry reef. Some bigger days the reef can stick out a good 4 or 5 feet. Place is terrifying

Towner is one of the best, unheralded big wave surfers on the planet. He makes surf like this look fun -- it's not, guaranteed.

Pretty much. I know someone who worked for them for years. Basically, all the top dogs lived beyond their means, they stretched themselves too thin in the form of worldwide advertising, promotion, sponsorship etc. Plus a lot of laws came into effect in the last 10 years which made it harder for companies to exploit sweatshop workers

The break is several km away from there also posting surf spots on the internet doesn't give you any cool points mate. The opposite in fact.

You could be forgiven to wear a skate type lid rather then smash your head on a slab with a wave like that. At least on first attempts.
No weak just smart cause you can still get ripped and crashed or drowned. It just removes one hazard out of many. If you get knocked out its over maybe forever.
