Politicians always choose means tested social benefit so that some people in actual need don't qualify or don't even know to apply hence allowing the politicians to claim they help us when most of the time, people just fall through the cracks. Social workers are supposed to steer people into the programs they qualify for but often it takes an outreach charity to find the people in need who are just despairing. Of course, it's no surprise that means testing and claw backs are usually added to appease the conservatives enough to sign the bills.
Note that one of the main advantages of UBI is that it bypasses means testing by being universal and unconditional and that estimates shows the reduction in bureaucratic administration of means testing would actually help pay for UBI but look at what happened with the UBI proposal in Ontario, means testing and claw backs got added to get the conservatives to sign on and once the conservatives got into power, they just canceled the whole pilot project before any relevant data could be collected.

@@garyhaggquist740its difficult, but as a minority i dont appreciate the logic fallacy type reasoning liberals depend on to act entitled to votes. Like they can do whatever they want and guaranteed votes simply for being a lesser evil

@@XetaXones I've never voted Liberal in my life - so you're barking up the wrong tree. I do however, know many Liberal voters, and many NDP voters - not one is a bigot. I also know many Conservative voters and far too many of them are total bigots. There is no "logic fallacy" - I'm simply calling it as I see it - and how polling and evidence prove it to be.
