The spike is one of my best flathead lures. They like hitting it on the pause. 2-3 twitches, pause a few seconds. I find that way I can also control where in the water column the lure is working if that makes sense as it will gradually make its way back up to the surface. Harder longer twitches will dive it deeper etc. I like working it just above the bottom and every now and then you'll touch bottom with the bib.

If you are after a cheap top water option grab some atomic blanks surface walker. Throw in a few permanent markers and bulk hooks and they work out cheap. Caught heaps of fish on the permanent marker scribble specials. Love ya work mate!

Insane surface strikes
Surface is just so addictive, regardless of species it is by far my favorite method. Shame that with the chest mount you miss some of the action when arms block the view at the crucial times. That's probably the main reason I prefer the head mount over chest. I reckon that Stingray would have got your adrenaline pumping just as much as the jack hit!

was thinking of removing the front treble completely. it kept getting caught on the racks and ripping the back trebles out of the mouth of the fish but kinda got to cold after those sessions so might have to wait till next season haha

just showing people that it doesn't work haha. with loose drag last time I was having trouble with the front trebles catching on the racks and taking it out of the jacks mouth. so figured I had to try and stop them getting back in but it didn't work
