After having listened to multiple products I’ve concluded that the Sonos doesn’t sit on top of the list but it’s far enough up there that when considering the life-style pros it also provides, it was the best overall choice. No question. And I don’t regret the investment.

I fully agree on the fact the Sonos experience is 'unmatched', to me they're the Apple of the speaker world. They may not have the very best sound quality for the money, but they're very close. They may not have the best connectivity (e.g. aux, optical etc), you can get a (slightly) better sound experience from something else, but it'll be a nightmare to set up, will look ugly, will use lots of power, probably not be as reliable, and if it has issues then good luck diagnosing them. The Sonos bar in this case is the full package, where minimal compromises are made

  • @joshfofer
    @joshfofer Před 2 lety +5

Great review, very thorough. I've subscribed! I, too, am "all in" on Sonos gear for the exact reasons you've detailed. One wrinkle I haven't seen mentioned when comparing these two particular soundbars (that actually ended up mattering to me) was the visual impact on "Ambilight" and other similar lighting effects. Just like the height of the soundbar matters... as it might block some of the screen... the *width* matters too, at least if you've got ambilight/bias lighting framing the full back of the TV. I realize this wrinkle is more about aesthetics than sound, but it does still matter. :)
I also think many people assume, due to the price and size, that the Arc is doubly "better" than the Beam, and that's simply not true. At least not in all contexts.
As an aside, I would like to see Sonos release front right and left speaker support to add to their home theater setup. I already have a pair of rears and a sub, and I'd add a pair for the front (probably the IKEA Symfonisk Picture Frames) right away! Fingers crossed for that...
Anyway, thanks for raising the bar, this video was great.

Great review and spot on regarding the overall Sonos experience. I went through several other soundbar and surround systems over the years. Some sounded amazing.. some sounded meh.. but all had major connectivity issues. Quality was uneven. And apps… ha, good luck with that. Bottom line, nothing I’ve used has comparable quality, ease of use, expandability and sound as Sonos.

I bought the Sonos Arc with 2 rears and the subwoofer for my living room and bedroom. I bought the Sonos Beam 2 with 2 rears and the subwoofer for my guestroom. I've had top of the line soundbars from Samsung, LG, and Sony and none of them match the Sonos sound quality for movies, music, sports, and gaming. Those other companies use cheap and inferior subs so music just don't hit the same. Lastly...Sonos keeps their products updated and they keep adding features.

And I would use the audio system 99,9% for watching movies both on streaming platforms and both with my 4k HDR Blu Ray player. I was wondering what would you suggest for that setup and also if you had the chance to try the LG S95QR. I am really curious about it, since, in my country both Kipsch and LG costs 1.6k against the 2.1k of the Sonos system, which is a factor to consider for sure.

Preparing a review for the S95QR. A solid choice in particular when pairing with an LG tv. - I rate over the SN11RG. The Q990B sounds better - higher quality build. Sonos may be the best investment long term in terms of longevity …software support / reuse / lowest frustration. I have the Klipsch in my formal home theater and it sounds really good but I have had some software issues interjected since my review … needs to stabilize before I can recommend again … though the last updates have helped. If you want the best sound Q990B. Want the lowest price LG. Want the slickest experience Sonos

    Reinforcing this reviewer’s conclusions…
I’m lying here listening to a new (on sale!) arc that replaced my beam 2 formally in the same location. Best move I’ve made since replacing my $12k one room mid-fi with four rooms of Sonos for a fraction of the cost.
The arc has what we audio nerds call “headroom,” or the goods to deliver more that is needed. Yes, the arc will be superseded at some point, but it’s a versatile, loaded workhorse. The beam 2 is now relegated to my office, where it’s forward characteristics and relatively lean imaging fits fine. It’s still a great sound bar.
The arc - on sale, paired with the sub(also discounted) - is an easy call.

Q950A makes the most sense to me (easy on wallet and complete) because my use case is mostly movies but it's so butt ugly. But then I start to question if my ceiling (17ft) is too high that I probably won't benefit from ceiling bouncing. Maybe I should consider Sonos beam for the DSP bubble...or wait for A9 for re-stock (I saw it on Sony store being available when I was trying to buy PS5 (no luck) but it's gone now. @@skydancerforever I also use Android but love Sonos products, so purchased an old iPod Touch gen 6 from eBay for £35! Did the trick and now I can toggle Trueplay on and off in my Android app. I also have the iPod ready should I move the speakers or buy more.

Sonos is terrible. It can throw sound around but the quality isn’t s garbage. It sounds very plastic-like and hollow. Not crisp like others. They need to combine these. Get the warmth of the beam but the sound-throwing of the arc.

I find the beam to be the crisp one not warm because of all the extra EQ DSP stuff they have to do to simulate height and soundstage effects … maybe the Arc could get a little crispness from the beam

I don’t know as I don’t own any of these but the arc from the demo sounds clearly superior to my ears. The separation and sense of space is way better than the beam 2. I also find the beam2 a bit too boomy for my taste. Don’t hate me for saying this as I really wish to like the beam 2 as my first soundbar due to the size n the price. I have small to medium room size and the arc seems to be too much power for my room. May be a pair of Apple HomePod 2 ? 🥹

HomePods require an Apple TV … you also can’t add with surrounds … a beam 2 would be far less unwieldy … set bass levels and volume as appropriate

@@neverenoughtech thank you for your reply. I have Apple TV and Sonos five. I like them. Now I think I need something for movie with Dolby Atmos. I guess I probably go for the arc 😂 . Hopefully it’s not overpowered for my room.
