152 WAS SOMETHING SPECIAL IN 1987 MAC LOBELL WILL ALWAYS BE REMEMBERED HAS A SPECIAL HORSE JUST LIKE THE HORSE GREYHOUND THAT PEOPLE STILL TALK ABOUT MANY DECADES LATER WHEN HE SET THE WORLD RECORD RACING WITH CONVENTIONAL HARNESS AND OLD WOOD TYPE SULKY USED BACK THEN
Agree. Carl was one of the great race announcers of all time, along with Stan Bergstein. The two worked side by side in Springfield and DuQuoin for many years.
Curt Becker called Duquoin IL State Fair in 2021. He is an amazing, low-key thoroughbred announcer, known from his outstanding calls at historic Keeneland in Lexington, KY. I read awhile back that’s he’s from Southern IL, so maybe he’s related to Carl Becker.
no absolutely: 1. IDEAL DU GAZEAU WHO WON IN ALL THE WORLD 2. THE LEGENDARY ROQUEPINE 3. THE "CANNIBALL" OURASI 4. VARENNE (ONLY VARENNE AND "KING OURASI" COULS BEAT IDEAL) 5. MACK LOBELL (WHO HAD AFRAID TO RUN THE RACE OF RACES: THE "AMERIQUE" CAUSE SUPERIORITY OF FRENCH AND EUROPEAN HORSES!)
No horse could beat Mack in a Mile race in Macks summer 3 yr old season, sadly he had pastern problems simolar to his daddy Mystic Park , who had blazing speed but was retired early..Mile and more goes to the French horses @@luiginoeldetroia6997
The late Curt Greene wrote that Continentalvictory was the best trotter ever to come along, & she would have owned every record in the sport had she not had to retire due to injury. Mack was great too, but it's not as clear-cut as some might say
I would agree..and I saw both!!..Mack was unbeatable in a mile race mid summer, his 3 yr old season , only hoof injuries kept him from pacing faster, many x he broke right after the wire as he was in.pain
You have Zero clue..Fortune Ritchie was a pacer..Mack was a trotter his Daddy was Mystic park and Speedy Count and Noble Gesture where his Grandsires, both champs..Mystic Park was a good sire and even better broodmare sire
Tremendous performance. The race itself seems a bit boring - only six horses, a very straight win, no skirmishes, no horses coming up on the home stretch. But again, what a great horse.
no, absolutely. he had never win the "Amérique" the race of the races cause the french horses are the greatest: 1 the nicest, the greatest of all, IDEAL DU GAZEAU 2. the greatest female ROQUEPINE 3. OURASI (but "the king of vincennes" liked not to go abroad) 4. VARENNE (the Italian "IDEAL") 5. MACK LOBELL (who had afraid to race the race of the races: the "Amérique" cause french horses'powerful and distance!).
ah ah ah ah ! did you remember the race of century. Our French ourasy win your american horse . and the rules of this race was american , made for the victory of your horse!

Do you have anymore races from that day in Springfield ? Looking for aged pacers race. Thank you.
Hamiltonian should still be there !

@martini1900 Definitely the greatest North American trotter. Varenne would have to get over-all honors.
I would agree..and I saw both!!..Mack was unbeatable in a mile race mid summer, his 3 yr old season , only hoof injuries kept him from pacing faster, many x he broke right after the wire as he was in.pain
his grandsire was Fortune Ritchie, an $18,000 claimer. his sire almost died before he could sire this one.
You have Zero clue..Fortune Ritchie was a pacer..Mack was a trotter his Daddy was Mystic park and Speedy Count and Noble Gesture where his Grandsires, both champs..Mystic Park was a good sire and even better broodmare sire
i remember
might be the 2nd greatest race horse of all time...any breed or gait....only Big Red was better (that would be Secretariat if you were wondering)
what a horse!!!!! :D
Tremendous performance. The race itself seems a bit boring - only six horses, a very straight win, no skirmishes, no horses coming up on the home stretch. But again, what a great horse.
Norwegian horse, thank you.
@Dick A Hertz totally agree
I was there
it's robin burns, not roger.
unless you mean roger huston?
YES FANTASTIC but defeat by Ourasi the french the lazy king!
They both has American blood floating in their veins...so American horses is the best ever!
