    Gorilla glass is easer to scratch but much harder to brake. Sapphire glass will just brake into tons of small pieces in case of an impact. Gorilla glass will not do that.

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  Před 4 lety +3

      That's true, but at the same time I think 99.9% of folks scratch their screens and don't actually break them so scratch resistance is probably more valuable than brittleness. I'm not sure how many people have shattered a Fenix Sapphire screen but I'd have to assume it's a pretty small number in a pretty epic impact like flying off a mountain bike and landing squarely on the lens of the watch on a pointy granite rock. For me, I've scratched gorilla glass screens just by having the watch in my pocket with other items and more recently while doing laundry and whacking the door of the dryer of all things. Personally I've never scratched a sapphire watch and I've put them through some abuse! I suppose its nice that we have a choice. Thanks for watching.

I had the Fenix 5 plus for about a year (titanium bezel - and loved that watch!), but I developed a nasty rash and think it was due to the backplate being stainless? Shame you didn't get the white/blue bezel version - that looks very interesting.

      Yes, the back is also titanium which is why there's such a big difference in weight. I've heard of others getting rashes but so far it hasn't happened to me. I’m a 190cm tall guy and use Fenix 5s - the size is just right - comparable to proper mechanical watches I’m using - doesn’t weigh much, no problems with HR reading when properly fastened.
    The solar panel on Fenix watches is a gimmick - it doesn’t bring enough improvement in battery life to matter. On the Instinct it is a valid feature. I hope that future iterations of Fenix watches will have solar panels capable of upping the battery life by at least 50%.

  • @athletejmv
    @athletejmv Před 4 lety

    You should check out the Instinct Solar if you care about weight... seems like your only justification to purchase a new watch that is pretty much the same model... way better battery life and seems more your style/focus. I tried the Fenix 6 Sapphire Titanium and the 6x Titanium Solar as well... three watches in total. I won't touch an anodized dark color even with DLC for a watch finish as you have. High contrast scratches and chips in paint annoy me... just a personal quirk. I appreciated that the Fenix watches could display more info than the instinct on the home-screen and that's about it.
    However, the display on the Instinct being way more visible in doors, the incredible battery life and much cheaper price tag won me over; price was not the deciding factor, but much appreciated. I also enjoy that scratches are much less visible on the composite body of the instinct compared to the titanium Fenix's I had. Also, with a screen protector on the Instinct solar... hardly any glare is noticeable... huge benefit there.
    I really liked the design of the Fenix... would work well in a professional environment... looks classy...but the instinct requires less attention from me with having to charge it. The Instinct is more of like a Casio G-shock with its own twist on styling.
    I put a screen protector on the 6x solar I had... turns out the sapphire version was easier to read and had less glare when not using a screen protector compared to using the solar with a screen protector.
    Negative on the Tactix edition having solar and sapphire... I'd be all over that.
    To sum it up... I think the Instinct Solar will win you over... unless you are dead set on having a Fenix watch.

    Sorry but this is not the Vented Strap (with hole between links and introduced with the Serie 6). It is the "regular" titanium bracelet like those found on the Fenix 5. And it is the reason of the price difference, as those titanium bands are really expensive.

But there is no such model unfortunatelly. I am considering the version without DLC but I am worried about scratches. I read some reviews from disappointed people who got bad scatches into uncoated titanium after a few days. Do you have any experience with that?

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  Před 3 lety +1

      Yup, the raw titanium is really easy to scratch. The DLC coated metals are much more durable but they're not "Scratch Proof" Something to keep in mind is that titanium can actually be "buffed out" to remove scratches while the DLC coating cannot be repaired if scratched. There's compromises with both materials. Funny enough plastic Garmin watches tend to be the least noticeable when scratched because they're black all the way though 😂

      Yeah, other than battery life the only difference is size and weight. 47mm feels quite a bit smaller than 51mm. I have an F6 Pro and it really struggles to get a fix in dense urban areas (and the track is terrible and the distance can be 10% off) compared to my lowly FR55. With the Titanium F6 (non DLC) now being heavily discounted I am sort of tempted...

    I don't like the ring around the solor... and it's just Gorrila glass....and I'd feel like putting a screen protector on, but that would defeat the purpose on the two solor panel's.
    The sapphire, people say there might be an AR coating on the outside ot the sapphire that scratches easily?..
    The pro version has Gorrila glass but a more visible screen than the sapphire, but you'd need a screen protector anyway.....

      @ChaseTheSummit  Před 4 lety

      Hah I know! The prices are certainly getting out of hand. However, with these premium materials and the included titanium band I can see how it's somewhat justified. You get the same features out of the base $700 model. It's nice that they have options.

  • @MarkSmith_Best-Athletics

    Both are gimmicky and both too heavy and far too pricey. Think Garmin are losing their way a bit. Glad that I went with Coros instead of a watch with features that are just gimmicks and rarely used yet a drain on battery life. Real value for money and with it's watches at either 55g or 59g they actually feel like sports watches.

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  Před 4 lety +1

      I understand your perspective but it's just a matter of different strokes for different folks. Garmin has a lot packed into their watches in terms of software features and I think some people may utilize them more than others. There are some niche things like InReach communication, Hunting features, Dog tracking, etc... Just a BOAT load of stuff! And for the people who can utilize those things Garmin is worth it. Heck, even the mapping features can make it worth it for some people (myself included).
      That said, I do like what Coros is doing. I like their "no frills" take on the GPS fitness tracker and simple, reliable, functionality but I do think some pieces of their software need some refinement. At the end of the day us as consumers have a TON of options and I think thats a good thing. This particular model is certainly crazy expensive, luckily there are cheaper options out there.
      Thanks for watching!

      I am a runner and use the Fenix 6S Pro. It's only 59g and does everything these heavier watches do. It's also a massive £450 cheaper than this titanium F6! I do think that the Fenix series have much better build quality than the Forerunners in terms of the materials used and all the buttons feel properly clicky even after a year of use.

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  Před 4 lety +1

      I haven't seen one. But sapphire will win by a long shot. Sapphire is almost as hard as diamond where as Gorilla glass is glass. I have scratched this type of glass accidentally in my Garmin 945, but I've never scratched a sapphire watch (not to say it can't be done). Thanks for watching!

      @@ChaseTheSummit The Gorilla Glass is stronger, less likely to break, but the sapphire is harder, less likely to scratch. However the bezel protects against drops so the lens is more often subjected to things that might scratch it than those that might break it.

    Hard to justify £950 for a running watch. You can currently get the Fenix 6S Pro for £499, that’s half the price! And the functionality is 100% the same.

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  Před 4 lety +1

      The Pro Solar Titanium is the top of the line "luxury" device so it's certainly not priced for everyon. There are cheaper solar options. The 6S pro is a great watch but the battery life is a bit lackluster compared to the larger versions. I'd say 98% the same given the difference in battery life and solar charging ;-) . Thanks for watching.
