Description:
102 seconds faster than the previous record.
Would have done this sooner, but I've been experiencing some pain in my left (keyboard) arm lately that gets annoying quickly when attempting to record demos. Not to mention you need a bit of luck to get through the level with this route... oh and missing monsters, a couple of runs ruined by a single monster hiding somewhere, but that's my fault. Managed to get some work done on the routes for map08 and map09 meanwhile.
As for this run, I was really unlucky here getting blocked on my way back to the start, when I dropped down to 54/54 I was just hoping I'd get killed since there is no way I'm getting under 13 minutes when I have to take everything safe... somehow it worked out through pure luck, unfortunately it looks ugly.. then again it's nearly 30 seconds under my goal time, got saved by amazing infighting again like map05. I've had practice attempts using save/load that were 11:XX, would probably have been within reach if it wasn't for the damage I took, but it looks difficult.
Route/Strategy:
Basically go UV-Speed until 0.2 second before the exit, turn around and go back to the start and clear everything out with BFG.
It's easier to clear out the initial revenants with the SSG, but it's a bit faster with RL if you manage to land nearly every rocket. If you miss a few rockets you have to switch to SSG anyways, so I prefer to use it right away. The next rooms you just want to get through them as quickly as possible, while also taking out the cacodemons before continuing. Cacodemons can open up the door into the double cyber room, so when you cross the linedef after blue key door that permanently opens the door it'll close if it was already open. You want that door to be open so it's easier to just run through here on the way back, otherwise you will get blocked.
For blue key room it's easy enough to clear out the revenants first before opening up the BFG. I fire to wake up the cyberdemons and hopefully get some of them to walk down into the corridor and get to the other side for better infighting. Then I just hope to get lucky and run around the hell knights/barons for the BFG before going to blue key. Once I've activated the switch after blue key door I tried jumping down to the left and go straight to the switch, but frequently I failed dragging the monsters away, so I decided to just go out on the other side and run around instead as it works more often and it doesn't cost much time.
I leave the megasphere behind for later and grab 600 cells in the next room. I do a linedef skip on the linedef that closes the door into the previous room, once closed it cannot be opened, so the big time save here is that I can just continue on to the end of the level instead of being forced to clear out everything up until this point. Activating the 3 switches in this room is difficult, there's a good chance I end up dead here, but it has to be done as it saves too much time.
For the final room I grab the megasphere and hope that it lasts until I can get back to the one I left behind. I wait for a while to try and get the cyberdemons and masterminds to move away from the second switch a bit, but I don't want to wait too long. I have to get to the exit quickly because once the imps up top are dead there is no way I'm getting past the revenants without clearing out the entire area. So this part is completely luck based and there's also a good chance I die here. If all goes to plan I'll reach the exit and cross the linedef that opens up the door into the previous area. Then I'll run to the other side of this area as I need to drag some monsters away from the door. I might try to kill a few pain elementals, but most of them are left alive and I just have to hope they die to infighting.
So we're about half way throuh, but the rest of the route is simple. Get back to the megasphere that was left behind and go clear the starting area. Then just clear the rest of the level :)
This route requires a lot of luck for a good time. I kind of got a bit bored looking for route improvements, so it might be possible to do better. Obviously taking even more risk during the early parts would save quite a bit of time, but the route is awful enough as it is.
Definitely not a route I'd recommend unless attempting to set a record.
Cyber infighting with the wall at 11:26 lol. Those were some tight moments at the end with limited health.
hahaha
1:40 Lost Soul: Oh my god! Doomguy! I’m a huge fan! Will you sign my…
I thought that was at 4:34
It's always such a delight watching you play through these absolute back breaker maps. Players like you and Decino gave me the push to start making some DOOM-related content, albeit at a far, far lesser skill level bwahahaha, so I thank you! And keep up the amazing runs.
Most players:- clear each room before moving on
Zero Master:- open up all rooms for maximum in-fighting
So... every Slaughter map player ever?
@@thesubinion the good ones yes
@@mikeywest2007 But it often makes it easier, because then you cause bigger infighting and you have more space to work with. Depends on what you open and on situation. In Speed of Doom Map28 it was easier for me too at some spots to open more areas at once.
5:25 I love this imagery. Doomguy striding slowly between and just slightly ahead of two crashing waves of death, like a reverse Moses for demons.
Crazy run. He got hit out of nowhere by monster damage rolls so many times, plus no armor - everything that touched him was blowing him up.
I love how it doesn't matter whether you're 8% health/no armour or fully stacked after picking up a mega sphere, you still play exactly the same- absolute disregard for potential death, full focus on the best UV max time. Respect.
To be fair, I've learned that all speed-runners play this way. They first play maps with saves & loads to establish their route. Maybe they use a variation of an already established route by another player. Then once ready they record the demo and run their route. If they die, they start over, record the next demo - rinse & repeat until a obtaining a successful run commonly referred to as an "exit" or getting their "exit". There are players that get exits on mere single digit attempts, to 10's of runs, or 100's of runs... It depends on the map, the WAD, the player, and even the category. But some maps take 1000's of attempts to get a successful exit; even 10's of thousands of runs - There are IWAD runners that made over 50,000 attempts to shave off mere frames/tics or a SINGLE frame.
I only mention this b/c what we see are the successful runs, and it looks badass to just go at all the monsters. But make no mistake, ZM put in work (literally) to get his exit. He's an incredibly gifted & dedicated player, and an equally incredibly integral part of the Doom community -- Doomworld, dsdarchive.org, dsda-doom sourceport, DooMed Speed Demos Archive on CZcams & DoomSpeedDemos Twitch.tv channel [to name a few].
_My bad if you knew all this already_ :)
don't blink, play fearlessly with confidence you can win
@@humanbeing_ fun fact, a map of 10 minutes, at 50,000 attempts amounts to almost a year of pure gameplay. (this comment about 50,000 attempts was probably about some shorter map)
It's funny when people mention low damage rolls, but that's expected - out of hundreds of attempts, the one where ZM successfully gets to the exit is likely the one where he gets lower damage rolls by a random chance when convenient. Even the most skillful player in the world can't avoid getting SOME damage throughout the run (potentially failing the attempt).
That being said, there's something very satisfying (but ultimately boring, no butt clenching moments) about the no hit TAS where the player "magically" dodges all the projectiles.
These Sunder runs are incredible! I can't wait for Maps 8 and 9!
Finally, doom 2 sunder! I waited! When I saw this new video, I jumped with happiness! Thank you Zero Master!
WOW! You really are a master! That was brutal!
Literally INSANE. Great run!
As in YTer *InSaNe* or just regular insane?
@@purebaldness (not) literally (but still) INSANE
@@ryballs4569 bro dude brah like literally INSANE bruh like srsly omg str8 fire bro whats the vibes (GONE INSANE)
Yes! I was waiting for this! Great playthrough, as always! It will get harder and harder through Sunder from now on. Keep up buddy, can't wait for the next video.
Going for world record specifically, though, I wonder if it will be easier on some of the harder maps because the current record times will be less competitive because the difficulty of the map makes most people focus on UV maxing the map at all rather than doing so as efficiently and quickly as possible. I doubt he'll do the new Sunder maps, though. I don't even think maps 16 or 19 are even possible without saves...
@@jamez6398 I wish he would play new Sunder maps not for a record, but simply as a playthrough, you know, without a rush, just to complete the map.
@@BohdanS15
Maps 15, 31, 32, and 17 have been done without saves, but maps 16 and 19 are impossible to do without saves...
That pain elemental swarm just evaporated. I guess there were enough cyberdemons.
GG!
You already explained in the description the risks for this particular route, but to put that into perspective for this run with the exit:
16% Health ~ 4:45
11% Health ~ 5:05
13% Health ~ 9:33
( you had 88% Health at 9:54 )
13% Health ~ 9:57
Health Pickup to 38% ~ 9:58: tics
Right back to 8% Health ~ 9:58:tics
Certainly a *Balls of Steel* / _Chest Hair_ route.
Congrats, and good to hear your arm is feeling better.
Insane man!! Keep up the great job you're doing with Sunder!
What a legend
holy crap, that was insanely clutch. The low damage rolls when you had no armor were crazy.
As always such a pleasure see you tackle this maps. Since I'm not a speedrunner, I play by the map's rules and it is quite fascinating to see the creative ways you use linedef skips to save so much time. This map took me like an hour and a half and left me exhausted.
Incredible work, I can't wait for the maps to come. Hope your arm gets better!
Man, I hope you will feel better soon, we are nothing without you fighting the demons there, especially THAT cacoclouds that awaits for you on map08
Insane.
7:37 "You know where I'd need to go rn? A pit full of punching revenants is where"
Speechless
Great job. Out of everything that was made so far, Sunder is probably my most favorite megawad. Very nice to see you taking on it!
Excellent. Yet another record beaten.
the close calls in this video, damn, bad for your heart
he did it again, absolute legend :D
this whole run is a nail biter, good stuff Zero keep it up
This is absolutely nuts.
That moment when I thought the spiders will pulverized ya u feel it close zero master god of the RNG.
Once again an insane run. Just out of curiosity though, is there a bug with the kill counter around 4:15? It keeps going up and down erratically. I thought it might be to do with archvile resurrections, but that isn't supposed to affect the counter afaik.
DSDA-Doom is different from PrBoom, DSDA-doom follow the rules of the UV-Max category which is that all monsters must be dead, even if they were revived, while prboom will count a monster as dead if it was killed once (so 100% kills would appear on the intermission screen, but it might not be valid for uv-max).
@@ZeroMaster Nice. Thanks for the reply. Always interesting to learn new quirks about different ports.
He is back! Neat :^)
Beef :
What a carnage. SS4 Legion system seems to be already invented by Doom decades ago.
Infighting was much more effective in the old doom games. They barely damage each other in 2016 and eternal. Always wonder why they nerfed it.
It's not so bad in 2016 compared to Eternal: on the Cultist Base master level, just as you take control of the Revenant, all the enemies are infighting until you move/shoot. Took at least 10 whole minutes to destroy each other.
As for why, I would imagine the smaller enemy count is one reason. It'd be too easy to take advantage of it IMO, especially with Eternal, that's designed to be challenging
The infighting in Eternal is mostly scripted. I think they just wanted to avoid cheesing.
because infighting is a little bit op in classic doom tbh
You would need by far less monsters to put into a slaughtermap when infighting would be off.
The kill count increased by 1200+ in 1 damn minute... Hot damn...
New video! Yasss! 🥰
Great run! Hope your left arm gets better.
Ladies and gentlemen. The madman just did it again
Incredible. Simply incredible.
I can't wait for Zero Master to take on Map 11, stunning map and an abosolute pain
"Games are for kids"
Me playing Sunder
Noone's said that since the early 90's...
Good morning Slayer.
Daniel Carreon: FACILÍSIMO VERDAD
11:15 cyberdemon double kill
Wait, where everybody go..? Last time I checked the kill count was 741, like a minute later it was over 2000:D great job, awesome run!
Oh look best doom player of all time 👀
Holy shit. Just incredible gameplay.
It would be nice to have a video where you only put the failures, so some here will have the true dimension of how difficult Doom is. Congratulations on your move.
Sunder's Hollow Icon be like waving to Okuplok 😄
You be like typing BS 😄
Impressive
Epic
Man, that's brutal.
jesus, this map is nuts
Zero, you are pure madman... I've got my butt clenching for so many times though xD
It took me damn near a half hour to beat this level blind... With saves.
I underestimate my ammo on most maps so I mostly relied on infighting. Seeing this run is kind of like taking a step back and finally being able to the complete painting. I could've stood to play more aggressively in some of these areas. Good luck on the next map, it's hard to run out of rocket ammo on it.
Dear Zero Master, I would be very interested in a video where you play a map the first time vs the end Speedrun.
The difference between regular players and players from the Doom World Elite like Zero Master is that Elite Players take less tries to mastering a map. They usually have 'em in a relatively few tries, they mostly go for improving time records or most effective and efficient routes.
@@Hyalyago Elite Players, capitalised.
Running among cyberdemons with 8% of health...
When it comes to insane slaughtermaps, it's either TAS or it's Zero Master.
You play great, 👍🏻.
Zero Master is Master of DooM
Do you go by Mr. Master or Dr. Master?
Oh HELL yes. Pure platinum.
Picked up a medikit that you really need.
Wow 8 sec ago
How the fruitbat did you survive the end with 13% and then 8% health?! No armour and any single shot couldve ruined the run and somehow you willed it.... fkn amazing and clutch run!
awesome!
Cool run😁
Finally!!) How much is the improvement?
This is the map my computer starts chugging at because of the mods.
Hope your arm feels better soon!
9:54 holy shit lol
gg
Nice
This gives me anxiety
Amazing
fresh meat!!!!
gg wp
Me watching Zero Master play this level is like my 5 year old watching me play this level. 🤣
Are you going to UV-MAX modern Sunder Maps or not, because of their sheer amount of RNG fights and lenght, and difficulty?
The amount of enemies you have to kill is insane added to the fact that the fire thing can respawn and there was a few of those. Has anyone finished this on nightmare?
That arachnotron almost fucked the run.
Nice that you've beaten BK's demo haha
Zero Master comfort zone is approx 40% HP :D
👍👍
It's funny because I just thought _"It would be cool if you could find a BFG, but maybe it would be too easy.."_ and then Zero Master found it lol.
But it didn't look easy 😬
In a map like this, how many hours do you think you put in from the first practice session to the final successful run?
Wanna have some fun? Load up this WAD with the Boompower mod, put on God mode, and watch the silliness. (enemies will explode when they die)
How fast can you UV MAX Hell Revealed 2 map 32 Playground?
3:38 wow why did you shoot the arch vile 😂😂😂😂😂
Are these not only UVMax completions but world records as well?
Edit: According to the response this is WR pace runs, on THESE maps? Zeromaster chill out man, what are you trying to prove man?
World record
Normal players cannot even try this kind of mission. I will be toasted in ten seconds.
Guys, it 6k views and 60 comments, if we would all comment then we would have 3980 comments.
Hey zero master how many tries/hours did you put into this?! Crazy.
The Cyberdemon at 11:28 is afraid of spiders and found one?
oh shit
Sometimes I wonder how much harder Doom would be with monster infighting turned off.
can we talk about how this demo has over 230 kills per minute
Use fractal Doom !
How can i play sunder? I have all dooms but cannot play sunder :(
R u using autoaiming?
What almost one-shots ZM at 5:03?
caco chompers
This isn't map 7 on doom 2 😂 I have the game
This made me dizzy.
Anyone think they can beat Sunder faster? G-Funk step to this, I dare ya'
