  • Coloratura soprano Vera Trifanova at Sonya Pankratov's Masterclass (in Russian). The second aria of the Queen of the Night from "The Magic Flute" by W.A.Mozart. ENJOY IT!
Sonya Pankratov (Mannheim, St. Petersburg, Moscow), a former soloist of the Kirov theater.

where I will gradually post the collection of unique lessons with this astonishing teacher.
I wish I would have time to transcribe and translate the text. Maybe at some point I will.
If there are people who are willing to do it, please contact me. That would be really a gift for all music-lovers. Because this is unprecedented. I know many people love watching her lessons even without understanding what exactly she is saying. But it is really worth it. Every detail matters. She is truly a specialist who can answer any, and I really mean it, any question and solve any problem. Please enjoy!
Every lesson consists of the Part I= warming up and Part II= working on the pieces.

As an opera student, I find it so fascinating that I actually get what is being said here even though I don't speak the language... Simply because of the examples being given and the physical movements.

@@suep9445 Yeah, you can even hear what it is that is being worked on. The student was over rounding in parts and it was throwing her sound back a little too much to cut through an orchestra without over singing... So the teacher is working on getting her to consistently place her sound more forward on her hard palate. I got all that from just watching and listening to the change in sound and it is helpful in my own work on the song because I have similar habits... Pretty cool

As my dear teacher used to say "your ear is in your nose". Also "there is no up or down" The toughest part of true vocal production. Note how the coach stops her every time she wanders off and gives her the thumbs up when she's back on track. That's why you have to have someone to alert you, otherwise you'll fall in the trap of listening to yourself instead if feeling when it is free and unforced.

@@rrgallo967 I wonder because it doesn't depict what the voice teacher was teaching Vera in the masterclass. She was much more concerned about Vera understanding how to breathe into the shape of the vowel and also to always breathe deeply using Appoggio to release the sound NOT producing from the nose or that "your ear is in your nose", if not Vera would be having a glorious NASAL sound if she was producing the sound from her ear like he said his teacher said is in her NOSE!!!!

That’s why russian school system is the best . You don’t see this dedication style and I don’t give a shit who you are type of coaching. She treats her like all her students and i love that. Music coaching is amazing. It’s a bond for life and the gratitude you have for the teacher is beyond any word. It’s not just a job. Music is a gift and not everyone has it. Getting help like this is what makes people believe in magic . And when she sees her in the big screen or the opera house... the tears and all hard work payed off. It’s something that makes her proud even more than her parents or family. Because no matter what she made you who you are as an artist. You have motivation and talent... the real work is of the professor.... with online school many missed this intimate moment. This is how legends are made.

It seems the teacher is encouraging more feeling in her voice via mouth movement/control. Wish I could find/afford a voice teacher. Some people who dislike Opera don't realize that operatic voices are actually conversations by way of voice and music. It's just as in a conversation verbal utterances have to have modulation, so true with the singing voice also has to express modulation, power and pitch. And how beautiful it is when the "conversation" and feeling is easily understood and heard.
