There's a really good video named "Dramatic video shows 47-car pile-up near Oak Grove." It's a trucker and his wife in the cab, recording the sounds and impacts of a pile-up. He was a smart driver and stopped in time, but he got caught in the middle and had to sit there while truck after truck and car after car slammed into him and the pile. The sounds and impacts he and his wife endured were terrifying. She was scared, understandably so, and wanted to bail out. He told her no, stay put. There was nothing they could do but stay in the safety of the cab and get pummeled. They weren't seriously hurt as far as I know. It's a good lesson for all drivers to see and hear what they went through.

That was a great example of how people regard death or serious injuries on the roadways now. Clearly the trucks that continued barrelling through the crash site were reckless, my guess is that they didn’t want to touch the brakes because they could see that they would skid, the cabs of these semi’s are so cushy and comfortable that the drivers feel so safe and invincible in them! Slow down for nothing, time is money, that’s the mentality of many drivers today. I guess the time has come that rolling speed control by highway patrol vehicles, are necessary in bad weather!

They're doing it because it removes the need for a human driver, that gets tired and has to stop and rest for 10 hours. Look at all the regulations and turn over rate they won't have to worry about anymore with a load that can go from A to B without stopping for anything other than to get fuel. Two things. One, they’re all travelling way to fast and should all loose their licences. And secondly why don’t American trucks have bars under the trailers to stop cars going under them like we’ve had in Europe for over 30 years?!

Here the city drives around with no plow on the truck sanding and then comes back with the grader and plows all the sand off the road. Then the grader slides down a hill and hits a parked car. Then it's break time even though they just started 45 minutes ago.

No, but many are near Shi'ited. One day CDL schools, no winter driving experience, bad companies with bad scheduling, government mandated working hours, flip flops and automatics. Combine all of those things, with the most basic tool available to avoid those situations being banned by some companies, and you get this. A lot of this. That basic tool should not only not be forbidden, but it should be mandatory and required in every truck on the road. That tool is a citizen's band radio, or CB. If the very first truck in that mess started shouting "Southbound, back 'er down! Back 'er down, big pileup at the 144!", and got the message out, the accident would involve not only fewer commercial vehicles, but by default fewer cars as they noted the trucks around them slowing considerably even if for reasons unknown.

I HAVE A FRIEND WHO DROVE TRACTOR TRAILERS and he has been fired from different companies THREE TIMES NOW. He was fired all three times because he refused to move his truck and stayed in his trucker friendly hotel during a snow storm. Which made him very late to where he was supposed to me. He told them, it was not worth it. So he was fired. If you asked him if he would do it again, he said yes. This video shows why that is a good decision. Companies pushing company drivers to be out there making bad decisions so the company gets paid. Don't blame the drivers.
