My deepest sympathy goes out to this Mom💝🕊🙏.I cried so hard when she sang you are my sunshine..many moms including me sang that to our babies and my angel has been played at many of our families funeral I pray she finds peace and strength prayers going out and up💪🕊💝🙏🌞
Saw Melissa live at Enmore Theatre in early 90’s at a time I needed to heat that soulful voice. And again at Bluesfest Byron Bay a few years back. She blew me away how she made passerby’s stop in their tracks to listen to her. I think everybody was mesmerised by her. Her voice and music is medicine. I hope it continues to mend her too.

It is devastating when we can't save the people we love. I remember when Beckett was born, there was so much celebration among ME's fans. It was obvious what a delight he was for his family.
I am glad to see that she is at least giving lip service to the idea that she did everything she could and should have done for him. It's hard to believe that in one's grief, but I have faith for all of us that when someone is our heart we move mountains for them. The doubt comes from having been unsuccessful, not from lack of worry and effort.
My brother lost his years-long struggle with depression and CTE in 2017. I understand the grief of not being able to save someone who anchors your spirit. Going forward is minute by minute some days; staying busy keeps grief at bay, but you have to make room for it in quiet moments or it will rise up and slap you in the face when you are least ready to deal with it.
ME's lyrics are so emotionally perceptive, they've helped me through many a hard time. I hope she can find the same solace, whether it comes from her own wellspring or others.

Shocking to see and listen to. So much emotion. For a parent to lose a child it's a grief I don't think they'll ever come to terms with. Parents don't expect to bury their children. Fair play to Melissa Etheridge though who is finding a safe way forward. Sadly, Melissa Etheridge is not alone. But together we can help each other through any crisis.

Please don't play guilt trips on yourself. You know the "what should I have done differently, or if only I did this instead of that." You were there for him with unconditional love. That is so much & all you should have done. These drugs rob the heart & soul from their victims, long before they die. It's so painful. Do complete your work to help others. That is a pro-active giant step towards healing. Much love!

I am so very sorry for your loss I am a recovering addict clean 5 years and my son is a recovering addict is now clean almost 8 years my heart breaks for you and your family I pray everyday that my son continues his sobriety bigs hugs for you your my favorite singer keeps up the songs from your heart I cried so hard when you sang you are my sunshine

My brother, who's in his 70's and very ill, but still working from home, lost his son Michael, and I lost my nephew - at that age, just this year, to an overdose - he was just about the same age. My pain at my brother's loss and pain is on top of what I feel, too and I don't know what to do with all the feelings, some days. Much much love and Reiki from my heart to yours and to your son. This capitalism is getting out of control, and...well, people like your brother and yourself and your family - mostly your nephew - pay the price for this. I won't get into politics, you don't need that now. All I will leave you with is that you WILL be in my thoughts and I wish the capitalist countries think of people before profits. What the Western world should know is that we do not need to trade compassion for our democracy.

I was watching a different video where she talks Abt not getting sucked into.the guilt & shame of her son's death that she could have done more.
N I Kno that "guilt & shame" is what kept Becket out there spiralling out of control.
If anyone who is reading this is going thru the same situation w a child, spouse, sibling, parent etc...
Plz plz Kno that person in your life loves you as much as you love them.
Once we cross that imaginary line into full fledge addiction....our drink or drug of choice becomes our Master. We wont be able to tell our addiction when we are going to stop....
Cuz now the table has shifted! That drug is NOW saying.,..I will tell YOU when you're gonna stop!
Cuz only n act of God will help that person get to that point of surrender...
And, only by the Grace of God that surrender came for me on 5/5/2012.

I share in her grief... I got a call from my Sister 36 hours ago that our Brother passed away, age 38, from a long battle with opiod addiction. This is absolutely heartbreaking, we did everything we could have done as a family, but the addiction was far too strong. My Brother leaves behind his Wife and three young Sons. This scourage epidemic must be stopped. These deaths are completely preventable, and laws need to be more stringent, pharma needs the feet held to the fire. This touches millions of people in this country and we must do something to force drastic changes to help those we love who are addicted. Love and prayers to you all. Brother Alex, rest in peace... We love you and will see you again 💔

In the 90s, there was talk of her starring in a Janis biopic. In the early 2000s, it was Pink. I haven't heard anything in years, but I wish the Melissa one would have been filmed.
I am sorry for her loss, it is an epidemic. But with her money and resources she should have hired someone to see where he was getting the drugs from. I’m poor and do all I can to keep tabs on my son. Maybe I’m not right, but I’m done enabling but I love him an I will never just be content to be like this is how it could go. I thought she was a stronger woman than that.
Why didn't she go to him instead of making a wellness call? Why didn't she call for an ambulance - she was waiting for an addict to give her permission? She should have done more.
