  • What is Paxlovid and what is it like? Hear from cancer survivor (non-Hodgkin lymphoma) Stephanie Chuang, also founder of The Patient Story, on the experience from the onset of COVID-19 symptoms, testing positive, to the first dose of Paxlovid.
We’ll be updating the experience through the end, including whether Stephanie experiences the newly reported “Paxlovid Rebound,” where symptoms may be coming back even after the full course of treatment.

I just finished my 5th day of Paxlovid last week. I actually tested negative by day 4. I immediately felt better after the first day. Symptoms were better. By day 3, symptoms were minimal. I have pretty bad asthma & my wheezing was gone. Only side effects was the metallic taste in my mouth but I ate sweet tart candy to help with that. Overall my experience was pretty good...thank God! Its been almost a week & no rebound symptoms. Sending healing energy to all!

Started feeling sick Wednesday evening🤕 Took a Covid test at home that showed positive🤕 Went to Urgent Care Thurday morning for another test that was positive. Spoke to my doctor Thursday. Was given PaxLovid Thursday afternoon feeling fine. I have high blood pressure and diabetes and told by my doctor I was considered high risk. So far had the metal taste in my mouth on day one. So have not had the taste since then. These is day 3 for me. I feel fine. I think PaxLovid is now given to anyone who test positive for Covid. It was covered by my insurance🙌🏾

This is day 2 of taking Paxlovid for me. I have primary Sjögren’s and a rare blood clotting disease (FMD), so I wasn’t vaccinated. I have several co-morbidities, including hypertension, obesity, heart issues and others. I initially thought I had overdosed on one of my medications because of the extreme and violent dizziness and the worst headache I’ve ever had, to the point where I thought I could possible have had cranial hypertension or meningitis.I also had chills, body aches and a fever. It was at the very back of my mind that I might have covid but didn’t test until day 3. I kept losing my bladder the first night and was up at 4 AM, calling EMS. After they checked me out and said if I did overdose on something, I was on the out end of it and my BP was ok enough for them to leave me feeling safe enough to go to sleep, even though my head was still pounding and the room spinning. Day two was spent all day in bed like a Mack truck had hit me. Day three, I was told to go to the ER by my daughter (thank God she encouraged me to go), and ended up getting two IVs due to having so many bouts of diarrhea the day before, in between sleeping (all day, at least 20 times). Had no appetite. Started having bad sore throat and coughing. Stomach pain, too.
My daughter insisted I ask about Paxlovid. They seemed hesitant each time I brought it up but in the end, and to my shock, I was given it. I was too sick to get to the pharmacy, so it was shipped to me via DoorDash a day and half later. As soon as I took the first three pills, I had an awful taste in my mouth, but knowing that these pills can prevent being on a ventilator is motivation to endure the one and only side effect so far. There is a host of meds you cannot be on while taking these and one side effect of these pills are hypertension, so I am staying on my BP meds. I’ve had to do without my pain medicine for the most part because this medication can increase their effects. I don’t care. I feel like I am getting better but ai am not rushing going back to work and having my body stressed and rebound with this virus.
I will say, though, that since day two, I started taking vitamin D (50,000 units, just once, because I have had vitamin D deficiency in the past and was given one 50,000 unit pill a week for a month by my neurologist, and since ai had a lot of bone pain and I was very sick, I knew I was deficient again and that this amount would be safe for me), adaptogens (mushroom complex, like reishi, ashwagandha and maca) and burdock root tea with hibiscus flower (all previous mentioned are immune modulators). Since day three, I’ve taken resveratrol for cardiovascular support and immune support.
I am so thankful to God, my daughter for her encouragement and support in seeking emergency care and asking about these meds! I’m also thankful to all of the EMS, doctors, nurses, PAs and other medical professionals, including pharmacy staff for their care.
I pray for everyone having to go through covid a fast recovery! ❤

I was recently tested positive, and had taken Paxlovid as well. My paxlovid course started on day-1 itself, the very day I experienced Covid symptoms - ie chills and fever (38*C). First 2 days felt terrible. Recovered and became asymptomatic on day 4 of treatment course. Negative rapid antigen tests on day 7. At present, am at day 7. Paxlovid works. I took paxlovid and I think it helped. I didn't have the rebound, and I didn't get long COVID. I had COVID about a month ago and my symptoms were really bad. I had a heavy version of just about every symptom on the list. I had a severe sore throat for eight days. I coughed up more fluid than I ever have. I had bad COVID diarrhea. I had zero appetite and barely ate for three days.
I didn't notice any side effects from paxlovid and to me the metallic taste was less noticeable as I took all the doses. I finally got a negative test on my last day of paxlovid. I started it on my fifth day of COVID, the last day I was eligible.

I also started it on my fifth day, as I couldn’t get it shipped to me earlier. I feel like it is making a difference and felt like that from first dose. Then 3 days after finishing my Paxlovid dose my symptoms though mild came back with low grade fever. Doc says these mild symptoms and the cough could last a few more days and my test will be positive for awhile. So hopefully these symptoms disappear soon so I can take the test.

I'm on my 3rd day of Paxlovid (high blood pressure need) - about 2 hours after taking the doses it hits HARD with the flavor... back and sides of the tongue, very bitter and slightly numbing, it's IDENTICAL in taste to the anti-nail-biting/cuticle biting liquid you put can put on your fingers. The worst of it lasts for a few hours and can be lessened by drinking tea or coffee, but seems to get worse if you drink juice or water. I'll take it as a small inconvenience if it means I'm not fighting overwhelming temperature spikes, lethargy, and body pain.

Today I’ve noticed some sharp pains in my right leg and right side of my head that are concerning me so I’m going to call my dr shortly. My symptoms are mild now and fever has gone away, but I did start the medication immediately so I don’t know if it’s the medication working, or that I just had a milder case of Covid. I went to the ER Doctors prescribed Paxlovid (so this was day two of symptoms ) I felt a little better after first dose, next day even better, I can sleep now. So far it’s working well. Being an essential worker I’ve been exposed countless times since my first infection, and this time around only symptoms I had was an ear ache, and runny nose. Went to urgent care seeking antibiotics to prevent possible ear infection, but was offered to be tested so I agreed.

I got COVID May 14th, took nothing but over the counter cold meds and was better after three days.
Long story short, I didn't put something in my body, like the experimental shot, and recovered in the same time frame.
I don't have to worry later if the experimental inoculation and/or pills are going to do something to my body later. The government did a good job of instilling fear in people. Fear = Control
If somebody points a gun at you and tells you to hand over everything you have, 99.9% of the people will do so, and the government knows that if they have people scared about their life that they are going to obey.
I doubt the truth will ever come out about how over inflated the death toll from covid is, but I'm speculating less than 1% died from covid only, all the others would have died even if they had gotten the flu. So blaming covid for all those deaths is a little or a lot misleading

I have MM, then got pneumonia 2 weeks ago and probably covid sometime there after. Took the week of two antibiotics for the pneumonia and still wasn't feeling better. I did a home covid test which came back positive. I have not been vaccinated or boosted obviously but immediately started a ivermectin protocol. 24 hours later I was feeling 100% better. Still wondering about my lingering lung pain. I was encouraged to go to the hospital to be checked out. I spent the day there had blood work drawn twice, vitals checked three times and a chest x-ray and a CT scan. I was sent home with a paxlovid prescription which I was not able to fill at the pharmacy. The hospital obviously was not concerned with my lung condition and only my recovery from covid symptoms which I had already dealt with with the ivermectin. I can get a complete ivermectin dosing for 5 days for about $15 whereas paxlovid would cost my government Healthcare (OHIP) $1500. And it would take longer as well. When do we stop trusting the medical establishment and take our own health into our own hands?

I stopped having fever immediately (but was taking Tylenol pm and NyQuil) I felt good by day 3, that I didn’t need that and felt better day 4. No fever since day 3, some sweating here and there but not like before.
BUT… the side effects: the weird taste in my mouth is nauseating I can’t sleep, and I did throw up. It’s weird it’s as if I’m choking on dry throat! I also get diarrhea 2-6 hrs after. Not sweating like before but my skin feels rubbery, just something feels different. Day 4 had full energy but took one mini nap, and generally tired. Will retest tomorrow and update for day 5 on medication. Overall restless sleep from the metallic taste.
Chewing on gum nonstop, sweet Candy gummy, drinking lots of water, sucking ice chip, and ice cream kinda help… but that metallic taste really sticks
I did study acupuncture. On Tuesday evening I cupped my back. I was too tired to even get past 3 cups and saw tons of blood stg. I never bruise that easily even with aggressive cupping. I did not suspect COVID until Wednesday morning because the chills and fever felt similar to the shots. I did not have any herbal formulas; but my go to would have been ge gen tang or sang ju yin. Did not check tongue or pulse. And overall just did not get relief with the cupping like I normally do. While my cupping looked aggressive with medication the blood stg/bruising is quickly going. The metallic taste is fascinating as this flavor does pertain to the lungs. I feel like I need strong nourishing yin with lots of honey but i can’t of think of a formula.
    Will update on day 5

I've had it twice now. The first time was pretty bad, it seemed like it lasted for a month and half. Thankfully I never had the issue with low oxygen. My wife ended up on oxygen for 3 months, it really took it's toll on her. This time which was almost 2 years later she had a runny nose and headache for a day or so was it. I felt horrible, worse then last time. I started Paxlovid after the 2nd day. Within 24 hrs. the worst was gone. In 48 hrs. it was all but gone. I finished the 5 day regiment just to make sure. I had the bitter taste in my mouth but it was minimal. Not sure if it was antibodies or the Paxlovid but the next time I am immediately taking it again.

LOL. I just went on Paxlavid yesterday, along with Benzonatate for the cough, which is fairly effective by the way. I took the evening dose of the Pax, and the Benzonatate, and as with you I noticed a biter grapefruit like taste in my mouth. I thought it was from the Benzonatate based on what my doctor told me about that drug. I didn't even consider the Paxlovid as being the cause.
I just take care of this symptom with mouthwash. You have to do that a few times before the taste stays away.

Thanks, everybody, for the comments about the metal taste. I've got 2 more days of pills and was thinking of stopping them. I didn't know the taste was normal. Got out my citrus drops...it works to mask the taste. I've had colds worse than this, but will finish the pills, thanks to yall.

  • @sheheri5828

I took Paxlovid on Day 1, i immediately felt better but I stopped Paxlovid on day 2 & I tested Neg. On day 4. BUT I pushed myself to do things, I felt worse on day 7 and RE-TESTED Positive again on Day 7 thru 12. The only thing that helped with the soap/grapefruit taste was to suck on salted sunflower seeds in the shell, and the only thing I wanted to drink was beef broth for my super sore throat. I stopped taking the Paxlovid on Day 2 because of the taste was so horrible. The taste was making me gag on top of the nausea and vomiting I already had. After stopping the paxlovid it took another 24 hours for the soapy/sour grapefruit taste in my mouth to go away.

I had Covid after vacs and boosters...got Paxlovid...had that metallic taste...but was only symptomatic for 3 days. I tested everyday out of curiosity...even though they say there is no reason to...took slightly over a week to test negative.

I wish it worked for me. I must be allergic to it or something because after one dose I was vomiting SO much and felt like I was dying (which i did not have with just covid) it took 24 hrs for it to wear off and i felt pretty much normal the next day....just felt like i had a hangover. Luckily the covid went away right away too.

I'm having a loss of appetite and indigestion after recovering from COVID and after completing the paxlovoid treatment. I am fully vaccinated and boosted but doctor suggested I take paxlovoid. I have not had a rebound but suffering from indigestion and a loss of appetite. Are others experiencing the same and does it go away with time?

I had Covid in December and it was very bad. I had it for three weeks so I’m not sure if it’s the meds or antibodies helping me this time but I do feel a lot better. Get well soon
