Highlights are exactly that... anyone could look good when you put together their best plays. But that's a weak argument. I'll go a bit further.. but first, this Bol Bol/Wemby comparison has to stop. I am a Spurs fan, since 99' when I moved to San Antonio. But I will be as objective as I could possibly be. Bol Bol and Wemby.. are alike in stature. If someone wants to compare players vaguely by saying a specific couple of players can shoot, dribble, can block shots, are agile and tall as hell...then yes, they are very similar. However, these two are not the same player as many people seem to think. I believe Bol Bol to be very talented. I've only heard about his lackluster effort/laziness at times, doesnt make defensive rotations, and settles for his own shot rather than finding teammates for a better opportunity. But otherwise when looking at film its easy to see that Bol Bol can help make a positive difference. But aside from the physical traits and a few similar skills, Bol Bol and Wemby are very different - it is far from just lackluster effort. After watching this video, as youve already done most likely, pull up any Wemby 8-10min highlight video. Ill help ya out and post one below. Do you see the same type of player in these videos? Most of Bol Bol highlights consist of spot up/catch and shoot threes, dunks with nobody defending at the rim, helpside blocks, and no real clips of playmaking ability or any real offensive post game (even when they got a small switch for him, he often settles to fadeaway instead of using his size advantage. Wemby did this too early in his rookie campaign but did it less and less as the year went on) Meanwhile, Wemby highlights consist of crazy range 3's, dunking over defenders, 1v1 blocks, playmaking, and an actual post game. Again, I just want to state that I believe Bol Bol has the talent to do great things, and yea, there are some similarities to Wemby. But they are not the same. I believe Bol Bol can still make an impact. He will be in his 5th year coming up, so either he is at his ceiling, or he will improve on the things his team feels needs work and we can see what he can become. I hope the best for him. Wemby has already done amazing things in his rookie year. Nobody really knows what his ceiling is yet, many people say he can become one of the GOAT players. Bol Bol has flashes and im rooting for the kid. He is just too inconsistent on offense and is completely lost on defense most of the time. Its hard to give a player like that meaningful minutes.
Funny thing Orlando Magic had him now they talking about finding a rim protector. They could have been patient and develop him plus he wouldn’t cost that much to keep. He fits the age group too of our current players
ORL has a depth problem especially in the front court, Issac just had his first healthy season in years and Banchero and WCJ will soak up rest of the minutes. Not to forget Mo Wagner who is arguably better than Bol Bol right now, Bol is better off getting trained by KD and having a chance to earn minutes in PHX
