Grimaud's reading of Op. 118 is exquisite, especially No. 2 A maj. I've owned this disc since its release, and all these years later, I'm still moved to tears by this performance.

Especially the recording of the intermezzo op 118 no. 2 is one of the best i've ever heard. Helene Grimaud is really a great pianist.

so beautifully voiced and incredibly uniquely interpreted. I like how she takes her time with it.

Op. 118 No. 2 is perhaps my favorite piece of music, and her interpretation is one of the best I have heard. Not too slow, but very heartfelt.

Rubato. Sentiment. Reticence. Accuracy. Sincerity. Transparency. Unqualified deference to the music -- to Brahms. She has it all. What a joy!

I have just listened to a number of her recordings in which she was playing different composers--Chopin, Liszt, Beethoven, Schumann, Brahms--and she seems to be true to all of their visions. And she is very poetic.

Helene Grimaud…..without equal interpreting Brahms. This is as close to perfection as one can get.

I've heard the second piece many times by another artist and I never got much out of it. Helene made me feel this piece.

Some absolute;y luminous playing here. I really cant' think of a favourite Brahms player anymore. So many fine interpreters. Grimaud's tempi are slower in some me pieces and suit me better. But we can all find nuances that delight us or perhaps make us a little uneasy. Anyway, I've come back to Brahms after decades. I used to think he was a bit stodgy-now I love his piano music beyond words. He is truly one of the very greatest composers for the u=instrument. No2 is heart rending.Thank you for posting this. :-)

The outer sections of the last intermezzo almost sound like Debussy, don't they?! JB was looking past nineteenth c. Romanticism and anticipating Impressionism. There are many fine traits about this recording, but her Brahms too easily becomes thunderous when it isn't necessary (sometimes it's necessary, obviously). Brahms can sound thick and heavy, anyway, without one's TRYING to make it sound thick and heavy. Also, #4 seems "molto agitato," instead of "poco agitato," and the "Allegretto" section of #5 sounds like a march, instead of a light and ethereal reverie. The B major section of the Ballade could be much more "sotto voce," as well.

Throwing in the disgusting commercial a few bars before the end of Nr. 2 is totally classless and makes me want to boycott the company! This is not effective!
