SURPRISE! I didn't want to announce this one, but I've finally remade the BTS vocal ranking, this one is alot better and much more well thought out! I hope you guys and enjoy!!
I feel like non-fans are way too mean when discussing BTS' vocals and ARMYs are way too protective. The truth is that BTS are not the best vocalists in K-Pop, but honestly, they don't have to be. To me, there are two types of singers: singers you listen to because their technique is impressive and singers you listen to because they sound interesting/unique and/or convey emotion very well in their singing. BTS fall into the second category and that's perfectly fine. The amount of diversity in their timbres is in my opinion quite rare to see and it's one of BTS' strongest points.
Totally agree they are not professional singers i am an army but for me groups like exo, nuest and btob are better vocally wise. Do not understand me wrong bts are very good singers they know how to use their voice they are very versatile and have unique vocals what i appreciate. It is almost the same with bp. Not professional singers but unique vocal tones. I kinda understand that fans want to protect if someone tries to bash their faves. But some fans are just overprotective and also take constructive unbiased kind criticism like this to personal and they think that this person try to bash them. Or even worse they make themselves deaf and do not want to see the truth and being unnecessary defensive and attack u for ur opinion. It is one thing to bash someone down and another to give constructive criticism in a very respectful way. Stans must stop thinking that their faves are the best in everything they do. Just bcuz they r for ghe stans it doesn’t mean that it is a fact.
I agree... and because stans can be really harsh and protective, it's hard for people to actually say this kind of stuff. One of the reasons I avoided BTS for as long as I could, basically until Dynamite was so catchy I couldn't dislike it, is because the stans and hype for the band are drastically exaggerated... and frankly I don't like their music style as much as other bands. They aren't the best singers... but they are some of the best ENTERTAINERS and PERFORMERS and that is what they care about.
really, true fans will be those who accept their bias for what/who they are. no one is perfect, but everyone has their unique selling points and strengths, there is always room for improvement. Fans who are blind to some flaws that their biases have is only doing more harm than good. Good or bad, it's what makes our biases just them and we should love them for who they are! I too feel that BTS doesn't have the best vocals but they stand out and are talented in their own ways.
I'd add that (in my opinion) they just straight up write better songs. Like, sure, their voices may not be as good as some other idols. But their actual music sure is.

the vocal line in bts was always a war zone for armys lol. We all agree on that Jungkook is 1st and Hobi 5th but everyones has a different opinion about the other members
Actually.... sorry, I know this will be an unpopular opinion, but..... I would place Jimin 5th and Jhope 4th. I think Jimin has an amazingly unique voice, but his voice is very shaky and lacks technique, which I fear will end up hurting his vocal cords. Jhope’s voice, to me, is SO underrated. He has great potential and is amazing at harmonising, which can be difficult. And when you hear Jhope sing seriously, the technique is quite good.
@@asanlay9620 Well to be fair, every vocal coach is both objective and subjective with judging voices, because despite their skills and knowledge, at the end of the day, they still have their own standards and preferences.
i wish that bts got to sing comfortably more often, specially since jimin seems to be suffering consequences because of the lack of comfortable songs... i remember that jimin and jin once said that the fake love chorus was too high for them but the company made them sing it anyways, and i have 0 knowledge in singing but those notes seem kinda painful to hit
Fake love chorus are C5-A4 belts. BTS vocal line are not belters therefore it is difficult, especially when they often use a softer approach (falsettos)
@@mineandow3298 falserro is not a softer approach to songs, falsetto is when a man tenor especially sing above their range. Women do it too,,, so C5, depending on their range, for the song with proper training would be easier. The problem is technique. You need to know how to approach it. B4 for a tenor should not be a oroblem with proper technique. That is the issue with some singers.
this. like the bridge in ON was almost intolerable due to the falsetto. had they let him belt with his mixed voice instead I can guarantee it almost woudlve sounded much better, fuller and stronger
@@taeslilclown9801 i kinda liked it but the reverb ruined it a lot, he sounded way better in the carpool karaoke tho. his high notes are a bit flat. “begin” is the perfect place for him to be vocally.
I think so too that Jungkook’s voice is a lot bigger than he lets on. There are definitely instances of it like with the recent cover of Jungle for Coca Cola or when they were recording the adlibs for In The Soop’s theme song. Also I’ve had the honor of going to a lot of BTS concerts and that’s really where you can witness some of the things he can do. There are many times I hear “growling” or a really powerful and strong sound during some of their songs that resonate above the screams and music thru the venue and I would have naturally assumed it was either V or one of the rappers but each time I’m surprised to find out it’s Jungkook. I think you miss things from watching them on screen because it all depends on the camera as it usually focuses on the person singing and not who’s doing adlibs and stylization in the background but at a concert you see & hear more. I think he’s comfortable where he’s at and he likes to stay there because it’s easy for him to harmonize with any of the other members but I definitely think he can do a whole lot more. Whatever his reasons are I respect it and I love and support him but I don’t think anyone truly realizes his full potential yet, maybe not even he himself.
@@taeslilclown9801 it wasn't falsetto, it was head voice and it actually sounded almost like mixed voice. As a matter of fact, I think he actually belted in the studio recording. It could have been better if he belted it live, but it's rlly hard, and we don't know if he can actually pull it of in mixed voice.
Finally someone who mentioned that Taehyung's singing in a tenor key all the time. It's not that the other members aren't impressive for hitting high notes like they do, but because Taehyung's a baritone and does it more often by design since his voice type is lower, it's always really impressed me, but no one I've seen has mentioned it before now.
The fact that they said "Army just listen please" says a lot to be honest. Armys need to chill and RESPECT people. I know we are overprotective of the boys but please know when to be protective and when to be not.
Jungkook has natural vocal talent. A famous singer in Korea who also gives vocal lessons said that Jungkook called him in 2019 and asked for vocal lessons. Jungkook told him that he never had vocal lessons before. At the time I tought it made sence because BTS was a hip hop group from the beginning. But recently Jungkook said that he hasn't got a lot of vocal lessons on purpose beacause he doesn't want to lose the colors and character in his voice. I believe it's the same for the other members.
As a non-fan of BTS, I kept hearing so many people criticising Jimin's vocals that I just assumed he was the main vocalist. I was shocked to find out he was a main dancer. I think it'd be good if BigHit let him sing softer killing parts, kind of like Seventeen's Jeonghan, and let him have more dance focus instead of so many high notes.
Everyone thinks Jimin is the main vocalist because he’s so good and haters criticize him for when he was sick a couple of times as if they aren’t human plus most other kpop bands lip sync
@@tammy2822 yeah, the criticism he gets seems really unfair. I think it's better for an idol to sing live and have a voice crack than to lipsync tbh. I checked out BTS's discography and I think he sounds great in their really early songs
despite people claiming their vocal line is not the strongest, i really love it because of how unique each of their voices are. taehyung especially! deep voices are my biggest weakness lol
Uniqueness doesn't mean they are the most talented or best singers... which is exactly what people are saying. That being said tho, what the listener values in their type of music is totally up to them and BTS offers something that many other groups don't.

This is the best channel with rankings. Your opinions are unbiased, honest and you always explain everything. Most of the channels with any rankings say everything to please the viewers, avoid opinions that some people won't agree with and use a few smart words to sound more legit or look only at official positions in each group. I just wanted say that I really appreciate the effort you put into making videos.
I'm hella biased towards Chim but I agree lelelel I would also put him in 4th place There's Jin and Tae alternating between 2nd and 3rd for me Honestly we can all agree that Gguk is 1 and Hobi is 5

I knew jk would be no. 1 with reason. He is very versatile.He can hit high notes and low notes.He can sing basically any genre. He does most harmonisations and adlibs. He does it all basically and even helps other members and I think he is also redefining what it means to be main vocalist.A lot of Kpop stans main vocalist is only the belter but Jungkook really stepped out of that box and proved that there is more than singing than just belting and that’s something to acknowledge. I do think Jungkook can belt quite well considering he hit stay gold chorus high notes with such ease. He did it the most effortless of all and in so what he belts at the end too. I do wish to hear more from it but I don’t think he likes it as much. He is only 23 but he can do so much that singers of his age can dream off. He improved a lot in 2020 and I think he will continue in 2021 and step even higher.I can’t wait to see how he will sound when he is 25
Yup Sick of people saying there's no main voc in bts when this man is so freaking skilled (and hardworking ofc) OH and I think he is starting to belt more lately, his belt gives me goosebumps, it's so strong like resonates within my whole being xD
true, even if jungkook doesn't put the highest or lowest notes in kpop (although i totally think he could make it if he tries it, after all he is the golden maknae), what I like the best about Jungkook is how rich his voice is, that could only be possible if he has a healthy technique and despite that most of the time Jungkook stays in his confort zone in terms of range, he has the best tone texture which adds to the expressiveness while singing, and I gotta say he is the best idol in that.
Yeah I think he can be much better technically-wise if he wanted to.. but he prefers softer voice which can show his emotions best. And I love it about his voice, I prefer this stylistic singing over the technical one

Besides, Jimin is an incredible, hard to beat dancer & says he's always working on his voice. Being #4 as vocalist with the range & control of 3-1 seems pretty good. Maybe he'll watch this and get some pointers!
Tbh, the fact that he had to apologize for putting Jimin as the weakest vocalist is very sad and proves the point, that a lot of Army are toxic as hell and will try to cancel people, even when they’re right, for not putting their faves on top even if their faves aren’t as good as they want them to be. I feel like I speak for a lot of armys if I say, that we sincerely apologize for those toxic armys. You’re doing an amazing job and I really enjoy watching your videos of popular and less popular groups☺️.
What’s more saddening is, that they belittle Taehyung’s vocals in the process, if you’re an OT7 and follow them, then this shouldn’t have come as a shocker
Honestly Jungkook is redefining the main vocalist role in kpop. Often we are fed with the ideas of main vocalist as the belter, the one with widest range and high notes. But Jungkook did it in his own way and you can feel he is everywhere in the songs because he also does the other vocal works like adlibs, layering, etc. He is so versatile that he can literally cover any members' part and he does it effortlessly too. Edit: btw please don't feel scared of armys. Lots of them are reasonable and nice so yeah, feel free to do more videos for them.
Agreed he is always the one to cover up for the members whether it be a vocal line member or a rap line member. He covers up for them when theyre absent and even the members have asked him for guidance plenty of times. He can do everything

I’d love bighit to give BTS a song which is fairly easy for all the boys, dynamite is a song morely designed for a female key and is a very hard song to sing live, fake love is hard and the chorus demands alot, there are even alot more songs which have alot of intense vocals in it. Bighit let’s give the boys a easy time while performing
yeah i think LGO is in a key they mostly find comfortable, though jimin still seems to compress his vocals more than he should for the high notes in it

I totally agree on your ranking actually. It’s hard to put jimin 4th, but I really do agree. A long time ago (maybe like 2015) I would have put him 2nd. But he kept using his voice incorrectly for years and it hindered him a lot. For any of you who don’t know, jimin only trained for 6 months before debut unlike many idols for train for years. I think it was very wrong of bighit to put those kind of technically advanced higher notes on him constantly when he hadn’t received the training many idols had. Idk that’s just me. But in 2020 I noticed a lot of improvement with his consistency live and I think he and bighit are realizing what his voice is made to do and how to use it properly
To add a couple more notes: Hobi is definitely a singer who I feel had tons of potential should he decide he wants to explore it someday. If he trained and worked on singing, I think he could easily match up with jungkook. Bts definitely don’t have the best vocal line in kpop, but I think their strong suit is that they have 4 vocalists and they are all unique from each other. My brother who has never even heard much from bts can point out their different vocal textures
I 100% agree with Jimin, his voice actually used to be good (better than his voice now) but I think he “ruined/cracked” his vocal cords between 2015-2016 but great video
But in 2020 after they stopped performing that much he really is getting impressive and I'm not the only one saying this he is getting to rest his voice and I believe he have a great coach now

Jimin just doesn’t have the stamina he use to have. I prefer his old voice because his now voice isn’t bad he just has to do all of these extreme dances and his stamina isn’t that great. So I wish Bighit would give the vocal line more comfortable songs or give JK/Jimin lines more to Jin since he’s such a good singer 😕
@YOU TUBE stability and Inconsistency are because of him being a baritone. A baritones range is 4 semitone lower than a tenor so the notes that would be comfortable for jungkook will be in the belting range for tae. I agree with pitch issues and he has been working on tongue tension(fly to my room and butter were better). But yeah the pitch issues are hard to ignore so jk is 1st in my list as well
Honestly, I thought “ is this gonna make me angry?” But honestly , I liked this and I’m glad I watched. What I got from this is that everyone sounds good in their natural range. Also, Jin’s voice is godly in concert!
Jimin's voice is so beautiful but I agree, it is so small. He sings in notes that sometimes are not natural to his range and so forced that it is obvious he is struggling and he is not consistent in his notes a lot of times. Jin's voice is powerful and he can sing those high notes really natural. I think that all the notes that Jimin sings so obviously forced could work better with Jin, because of his powerful voice, but they don't give him enough credit. V's voice is so interesting. And yes, the number one is obviously Jungkook, his voice control is just amazing!
I think the problem with Jin is he tends to sound strain specially when his tired and unfortunately they do a lot of choreography so this affects his voice. I think he sounds beautiful when they do ballads
You are right bro. It's only Taehyung who can touch the heart ❤... He sings really beautiful the few lines he get . Sometimes, I also fall in love with Jin's princely vocals. Jungkook sounds best because of his singing style & technique. And Jimin has a sensuous feminine tone. They all are good, but V is really unique, something heavenly ✨. Actually they sounds the best in their solo songs, if you listen where they beats each other 👊😂
and you know when they sing it on tour they will either give the highest parts to Jin instead or crack up the autotune and let Jimin try and fail night after night and feel miserable. that's what they do. assuming they don't let him lip-sync it. when they should have given more training to them all and let them sing more comfortably in their zone. they should have let Jin sing the higher parts in the first place at least instead of ignoring him as usual, though i hope they go easier on him than they did on Jimin too.

high notes doesn’t mean you’re the best singer in the group, and i would have given jimin the same ranking. i actually agree 100% with this ranking, with my limited vocal knowledge, and its pretty rare i agree with a ranking completely haha
Kim taehyung voice has so much power , even if he sings less , he will make u fall for him and his voice in those bare minimum, he had been doing that since debut. He has got the deepest , dreamiest and one of most unique voice. One line is enough to make anyone fall in love.
:/ :/ I knew it that he is using his voice in wrong way the vocal coach said that he trained the three other members except for jimin and I think it's because of the lack of time since jimin trained to be an idol in only 6 months and said that he learned to sing only when they started recording their first album he should change his technique before he damages his voice more + I don't like how they give him many high notes to do when they already know his voice is damaged they can give it to the main vocalist .

This is a kind, but very good analysis. The comments agree more than I expected. I'll add a few things: Jimin overuses scooping and vocal fry so much that it compounds the sound production issue you mention. Frankly, Jin outright shouts sometimes (e.g., in Dynamite and Butter, even the studio version). Finally, on behalf of baritones everywhere, I do appreciate you crediting Taehyung for managing the excess high notes he's given as well as the great falsetto/head stuff. Honestly, the producers are cruel to them. They really should knock the keys of their songs down a bit so that they all sound better and can accomplish stuff live more reliably.
I just want to add that Kpop, in general, is usually alot higher than American Pop music. And the BTS boys love to push themselves, they hold alot of control over their career. They've said that they write and produce, they only do what they're comfortable with and have each member play on each line of a song to find the one who sounds best. Of course, they can improve and they're constantly working to be their best. Just saying, the problem isn't their producers because they are their producers. For example, their album BE was completely self directed.

This is perfect, I listened to RM's solo work and in 'everything goes' it finally occurred to me that despite the lack of technique his voice is really nice! Also Jimin's falsetto reminds me of DK from iKon - both sound like literal angels from heaven. Overall I love this ranking because you actually know what you're talking about.

Finally an unbiased professional!!! I love that you acknokwledge that 5 to 7 are mainly rappers but they still have space to improve their singing. I personally find RM's voice in his solo songs super soothing! I never would've thought Taehyung would be 2nd but after hearing your reasoning it absolutely makes sense! Jimin in #4 is where he belongs, as much as I love him (he single-handedly got me into Kpop), but it does make me sad that he did not take care of his voice from the very beginning....I think he really was at #2 at the time of their debut but he forced it too much over the years.
Lol...ton of armys really didn't have any idea why Taehyung's voice is comes close to Jungkook. I think i am the only one and many Tae stans who believed that Taehyung is deserved it position. It's about time armys will realized that Taehyung is good vocalist.

when jungkook have Free time he always go find professional Singer in Korea to learn how singing better and we know he's good singer but he still wants to learn. he go with jin sometimes because both of them want to learn more about vocal

I'm so happy that you decided to make a new bts ranking video and i'm glad you cleared out the old video. To be honest the previous video was...something. I think it was kinda obvious you were going with more 2016-2017 bts ranking. But again, since you cleared it out it's all good, you're probably my favorite youtuber that does these rankings and you're great at explaining, i'm glad you decided to take on bts again. About the video, while you were talking about Jimin compressing his voice, i realised that because of this when he brings his voice a little higher it gets really whiny and sounds pleasant but when it's a bit more higher, it startes to sound really....tired?pushy? And about taehyung,i think since he's so used to using a breathy voice with a lighter sound, when he brings it a lot closer to his actual comfortable range he starts to struggle and can't bring himself to a full-on heavy place. But he has a wonderful voice and i hope we can see him do a classical song in next years, he has just the voice for that(yes i'm obsessed with That Clip from Black Swan Behind The Scene) Also i was wondering, is Jungkook going for a lot more technical singing in the last years? Before 2018 honestly he always felt like he was going with the flow with an incredible talent and little technique, always choosing style but in recent years i think he improved a lot and he's just. Yes he's not a powerhouse singer but god damn, he is without a doubt one of the most stable idols i've ever seen.
Big Jimin bias here and I agree with your assessment. He's so talented and sounds beautiful but he wasn't trained well and they just let him go, which sucks because he has so much to offer. Opinions are allowed, if anyone gets mad they can relax. You were kind and thoughtful in your approach.

Before I heard them in concert I would have said 1. jungkook 2. taehyung 3. jin 4. jimin but after the concert it's definitely 1. jungkook 2. jin 3. taehyung 4. jimin jin is insanely impressive in concert, I was bias wrecked so hard.
Finally someone who appreciates Tae's vocals.The fact that he sings comfortably most of the time in the same key like the other Tenor vocalists being a Baritone is unreal.And who can forget that high note in Stigma I wonder why he doesn't do that kind of high note anymore
Tae became my bias because of his vocals (it was 'Nessun Dorma' and he was literally goofying there) but I'm kinda glad he doesn't go for such high notes (as in 'Stigma') anymore. I think he doesn't really need to do it, his voice is just suited for other thing. I would love to hear his full voice in baritone register more tho.

despite being pretty airy, taehying has the best diaphragmatic engagement in the group, because of his consistent diaphragmatic engagement he does support better than jungkook as jungkook prefers to sing stylistically, he usually doesn’t like to sing with the proper engagement for any good support that he might be capable of. taehyung however struggles with throatiness and lowers his larynx too often, and for a baritone his lower register is pretty underdeveloped and he can’t even maintain tonality that low because of his lack of a forward placement, but from his lack of technique to jungkook refusing to sing with a proper technique the gap between the two is very small to the point that they are interchangeable
@@liz2668 I agree, his tounge tension has shown some improvement, plus he has a full octave of support. I’d say he’s stronger than jk and around rosé’s level of technique. His falsetto runs seem okay at times. I’m glad that he’s showing active improvement, some of the other members have been the same for quite a while

To be honest many people make videos or articles analyzing the vocals of BTS, but yours is the most honest and the most professional and unbiased one. I always love your vocal rankings and how you delve into the technicals, I even watch for groups I don’t necessarily love. On a side note, I’d love to see a Onewe + Oneus vocal ranking. They are brother groups(one’s a band with three vocalists and the other a boy group with six). I think you’d really enjoy some of their voices. Yonghoon(Onewe) in particular is like god tier. Someone compiled a 30 minute video of just his live vocals 🥰
exactly!! I think the only songs where he actually sounds comfortable are his solo songs + promise. mainly bc like sam said, he uses a lighter mix and doesn't compress as much

I'm proud of Jin. Dude's improved so much since No More Dream.😂 I think what makes BTS appealing is how the vocal line has pairings with eachother and how the vocal line almost echoes the rap line. BTS might not have the best vocals in K-pop but they do believe they have the best rap line.
I love so much Jin's voice, but I understand why you put him as 3rd (Jin and Tae are on similar level in singing I think). I just think he deserves kinda more lines, like, I want to hear him more :((

As someone who loves to sing casually but has no understanding of singing technique, this series is super interesting to me, thank you for making it! Also, I'm Jimin bias and I love the unique sound of his voice, but I absolutely buy the reasoning and can agree with it. Liking someone's voice is a personal opinion that has nothing to do with how good it is technically, and you also made a very balanced analysis highlighting the strengths and weaknesses.

I’m so happy omg I have been waiting!! Overall I would say I fully agree with your ranking due to your explanations (even if initially I would’ve thought differently) they were as good as always!!! Only clips I wish were included/discussed was Jimin in perfect man because I think that’s by far his strongest vocal performance and he sang in a very different placement(?range idk) than usual and also the cover of Fools which I find is the best RM vocals ive heard this far (though I’m not certain that was ever performed live so I understand). Overall 10/10 video I’m so happy!!!!
I have to agree with everything you said in this video. Like most Armys, I am a bit protective over BTS, but I can't deny that their voices aren't always perfect and it wouldn't be fair to expect them to be. But even so, I can acknowledge that they have a few flaws in their voice here and there. As for the comments you made about Jimin, I'd have to agree. His voice was actually my favorite when I first started stanning BTS and had only heard the studio versions of their songs, but once I started watching live performances, his struggle to stay on key was evident. I am in no way labeling him as a bad singer, but I do think it would be better for him to sing in a range he is more comfortable in which would be songs like Promise. In all honesty, it's because of that that I dropped him as my bias-wrecker and switched to Jungkook. His voice is very reliable and like you said it has the most control. I myself like to sing and so when it comes to finding artists to "bias" I do put a lot more weight on the vocal aspect. Overall I really liked your ranking/review of each of the members' voices and I know you know a lot more than I do when it comes to singing. All of the rankings were fair and had evidence to back up what you were saying.

I rarely leave comments on YT anymore but I just wanted to applaud you for this video, I love it so much. Your opinions are so well argumented, and I might be biased because this is my exact ranking too, but they make perfect sense to me. Hobi is easily and by far the best singer of the rap line, and while personal preference might taint some opinions, your ranking is just flawless imo (while I love all of BTS, Taehyung has my favourite voice, but I still acknowledge that Jungkook is technically a better vocalist (meanwhile I love his voice as well, so it's a win all around for me)). Overall BTS might not be the strongest vocalists in kpop but the character and uniqueness their voices have make them my favourites. BTW massive props for stating your honest and unbiased opinions. That's unfortunately become a rarity on YT nowadays. Sometimes charisma > technicality. Anyway I love the way you do your videos, gonna check out the rest now.

I didn't watch the previous version but I really appreciate it's not another 'reaction video' but you've chosen several live performances and provided great explanation and reasoning.
This is the best ranking so far. V has a good voice, baritone. Some armies saying Jimin should above V. I think Jimin doesn't use his natural voice and it's sound to tight for me. It cracks sometimes and it so unstable. Don't get me wrong its all about my opinion.
I know bts have been improving rapidly vocally, and they're still going to be better and better every year. They also might not be the best vocal line out there in terms of technique, but here's the thing. I absolutely love the style and the colour of their voices. Their voices are so special and unique and versatile, and they compliment each other so well that even if they don't have the best technique, I don't think anyone can sing their songs better than them. Ever. It just won't be the same.

I feel like non-fans are way too mean when discussing BTS' vocals and ARMYs are way too protective. The truth is that BTS are not the best vocalists in K-Pop, but honestly, they don't have to be. To me, there are two types of singers: singers you listen to because their technique is impressive and singers you listen to because they sound interesting/unique and/or convey emotion very well in their singing. BTS fall into the second category and that's perfectly fine. The amount of diversity in their timbres is in my opinion quite rare to see and it's one of BTS' strongest points.
Totally agree they are not professional singers i am an army but for me groups like exo, nuest and btob are better vocally wise. Do not understand me wrong bts are very good singers they know how to use their voice they are very versatile and have unique vocals what i appreciate. It is almost the same with bp. Not professional singers but unique vocal tones. I kinda understand that fans want to protect if someone tries to bash their faves. But some fans are just overprotective and also take constructive unbiased kind criticism like this to personal and they think that this person try to bash them. Or even worse they make themselves deaf and do not want to see the truth and being unnecessary defensive and attack u for ur opinion. It is one thing to bash someone down and another to give constructive criticism in a very respectful way. Stans must stop thinking that their faves are the best in everything they do. Just bcuz they r for ghe stans it doesn’t mean that it is a fact.
I agree... and because stans can be really harsh and protective, it's hard for people to actually say this kind of stuff. One of the reasons I avoided BTS for as long as I could, basically until Dynamite was so catchy I couldn't dislike it, is because the stans and hype for the band are drastically exaggerated... and frankly I don't like their music style as much as other bands. They aren't the best singers... but they are some of the best ENTERTAINERS and PERFORMERS and that is what they care about.
really, true fans will be those who accept their bias for what/who they are. no one is perfect, but everyone has their unique selling points and strengths, there is always room for improvement. Fans who are blind to some flaws that their biases have is only doing more harm than good. Good or bad, it's what makes our biases just them and we should love them for who they are! I too feel that BTS doesn't have the best vocals but they stand out and are talented in their own ways.
I'd add that (in my opinion) they just straight up write better songs. Like, sure, their voices may not be as good as some other idols. But their actual music sure is.

Actually.... sorry, I know this will be an unpopular opinion, but..... I would place Jimin 5th and Jhope 4th. I think Jimin has an amazingly unique voice, but his voice is very shaky and lacks technique, which I fear will end up hurting his vocal cords. Jhope’s voice, to me, is SO underrated. He has great potential and is amazing at harmonising, which can be difficult. And when you hear Jhope sing seriously, the technique is quite good.

BTS vocal line are not belters therefore it is difficult, especially when they often use a softer approach (falsettos)

Women do it too,,, so C5, depending on their range, for the song with proper training would be easier. The problem is technique. You need to know how to approach it. B4 for a tenor should not be a oroblem with proper technique. That is the issue with some singers.

this. like the bridge in ON was almost intolerable due to the falsetto. had they let him belt with his mixed voice instead I can guarantee it almost woudlve sounded much better, fuller and stronger

I think so too that Jungkook’s voice is a lot bigger than he lets on. There are definitely instances of it like with the recent cover of Jungle for Coca Cola or when they were recording the adlibs for In The Soop’s theme song. Also I’ve had the honor of going to a lot of BTS concerts and that’s really where you can witness some of the things he can do. There are many times I hear “growling” or a really powerful and strong sound during some of their songs that resonate above the screams and music thru the venue and I would have naturally assumed it was either V or one of the rappers but each time I’m surprised to find out it’s Jungkook. I think you miss things from watching them on screen because it all depends on the camera as it usually focuses on the person singing and not who’s doing adlibs and stylization in the background but at a concert you see & hear more. I think he’s comfortable where he’s at and he likes to stay there because it’s easy for him to harmonize with any of the other members but I definitely think he can do a whole lot more. Whatever his reasons are I respect it and I love and support him but I don’t think anyone truly realizes his full potential yet, maybe not even he himself.

It could have been better if he belted it live, but it's rlly hard, and we don't know if he can actually pull it of in mixed voice.
Finally someone who mentioned that Taehyung's singing in a tenor key all the time. It's not that the other members aren't impressive for hitting high notes like they do, but because Taehyung's a baritone and does it more often by design since his voice type is lower, it's always really impressed me, but no one I've seen has mentioned it before now.

Jungkook has natural vocal talent. A famous singer in Korea who also gives vocal lessons said that Jungkook called him in 2019 and asked for vocal lessons. Jungkook told him that he never had vocal lessons before. At the time I tought it made sence because BTS was a hip hop group from the beginning. But recently Jungkook said that he hasn't got a lot of vocal lessons on purpose beacause he doesn't want to lose the colors and character in his voice. I believe it's the same for the other members.
To be a main vocalist who never really had a chance to take vocal lessons with a 7-years career but to sound so good is just amazing.
As a non-fan of BTS, I kept hearing so many people criticising Jimin's vocals that I just assumed he was the main vocalist. I was shocked to find out he was a main dancer. I think it'd be good if BigHit let him sing softer killing parts, kind of like Seventeen's Jeonghan, and let him have more dance focus instead of so many high notes.

I knew jk would be no. 1 with reason. He is very versatile.He can hit high notes and low notes.He can sing basically any genre. He does most harmonisations and adlibs. He does it all basically and even helps other members and I think he is also redefining what it means to be main vocalist.A lot of Kpop stans main vocalist is only the belter but Jungkook really stepped out of that box and proved that there is more than singing than just belting and that’s something to acknowledge. I do think Jungkook can belt quite well considering he hit stay gold chorus high notes with such ease. He did it the most effortless of all and in so what he belts at the end too. I do wish to hear more from it but I don’t think he likes it as much. He is only 23 but he can do so much that singers of his age can dream off. He improved a lot in 2020 and I think he will continue in 2021 and step even higher.I can’t wait to see how he will sound when he is 25

true, even if jungkook doesn't put the highest or lowest notes in kpop (although i totally think he could make it if he tries it, after all he is the golden maknae), what I like the best about Jungkook is how rich his voice is, that could only be possible if he has a healthy technique and despite that most of the time Jungkook stays in his confort zone in terms of range, he has the best tone texture which adds to the expressiveness while singing, and I gotta say he is the best idol in that.
Yeah I think he can be much better technically-wise if he wanted to.. but he prefers softer voice which can show his emotions best. And I love it about his voice, I prefer this stylistic singing over the technical one

Besides, Jimin is an incredible, hard to beat dancer & says he's always working on his voice. Being #4 as vocalist with the range & control of 3-1 seems pretty good. Maybe he'll watch this and get some pointers!

Honestly Jungkook is redefining the main vocalist role in kpop. Often we are fed with the ideas of main vocalist as the belter, the one with widest range and high notes. But Jungkook did it in his own way and you can feel he is everywhere in the songs because he also does the other vocal works like adlibs, layering, etc. He is so versatile that he can literally cover any members' part and he does it effortlessly too.
Edit: btw please don't feel scared of armys. Lots of them are reasonable and nice so yeah, feel free to do more videos for them.
Agreed he is always the one to cover up for the members whether it be a vocal line member or a rap line member. He covers up for them when theyre absent and even the members have asked him for guidance plenty of times. He can do everything

I’d love bighit to give BTS a song which is fairly easy for all the boys, dynamite is a song morely designed for a female key and is a very hard song to sing live, fake love is hard and the chorus demands alot, there are even alot more songs which have alot of intense vocals in it.

I totally agree on your ranking actually. It’s hard to put jimin 4th, but I really do agree. A long time ago (maybe like 2015) I would have put him 2nd. But he kept using his voice incorrectly for years and it hindered him a lot. For any of you who don’t know, jimin only trained for 6 months before debut unlike many idols for train for years. I think it was very wrong of bighit to put those kind of technically advanced higher notes on him constantly when he hadn’t received the training many idols had. Idk that’s just me. But in 2020 I noticed a lot of improvement with his consistency live and I think he and bighit are realizing what his voice is made to do and how to use it properly
To add a couple more notes: Hobi is definitely a singer who I feel had tons of potential should he decide he wants to explore it someday. If he trained and worked on singing, I think he could easily match up with jungkook. Bts definitely don’t have the best vocal line in kpop, but I think their strong suit is that they have 4 vocalists and they are all unique from each other. My brother who has never even heard much from bts can point out their different vocal textures

Jimin just doesn’t have the stamina he use to have. I prefer his old voice because his now voice isn’t bad he just has to do all of these extreme dances and his stamina isn’t that great. So I wish Bighit would give the vocal line more comfortable songs or give JK/Jimin lines more to Jin since he’s such a good singer 😕

@YOU TUBE stability and Inconsistency are because of him being a baritone. A baritones range is 4 semitone lower than a tenor so the notes that would be comfortable for jungkook will be in the belting range for tae. I agree with pitch issues and he has been working on tongue tension(fly to my room and butter were better). But yeah the pitch issues are hard to ignore so jk is 1st in my list as well
Honestly, I thought “ is this gonna make me angry?” But honestly , I liked this and I’m glad I watched. What I got from this is that everyone sounds good in their natural range. Also, Jin’s voice is godly in concert!
Jimin's voice is so beautiful but I agree, it is so small. He sings in notes that sometimes are not natural to his range and so forced that it is obvious he is struggling and he is not consistent in his notes a lot of times. Jin's voice is powerful and he can sing those high notes really natural. I think that all the notes that Jimin sings so obviously forced could work better with Jin, because of his powerful voice, but they don't give him enough credit. V's voice is so interesting. And yes, the number one is obviously Jungkook, his voice control is just amazing!

and you know when they sing it on tour they will either give the highest parts to Jin instead or crack up the autotune and let Jimin try and fail night after night and feel miserable. that's what they do. assuming they don't let him lip-sync it. when they should have given more training to them all and let them sing more comfortably in their zone. they should have let Jin sing the higher parts in the first place at least instead of ignoring him as usual, though i hope they go easier on him than they did on Jimin too.

This is a kind, but very good analysis. The comments agree more than I expected. I'll add a few things: Jimin overuses scooping and vocal fry so much that it compounds the sound production issue you mention. Frankly, Jin outright shouts sometimes (e.g., in Dynamite and Butter, even the studio version). Finally, on behalf of baritones everywhere, I do appreciate you crediting Taehyung for managing the excess high notes he's given as well as the great falsetto/head stuff.
Honestly, the producers are cruel to them. They really should knock the keys of their songs down a bit so that they all sound better and can accomplish stuff live more reliably.
I just want to add that Kpop, in general, is usually alot higher than American Pop music. And the BTS boys love to push themselves, they hold alot of control over their career. They've said that they write and produce, they only do what they're comfortable with and have each member play on each line of a song to find the one who sounds best. Of course, they can improve and they're constantly working to be their best. Just saying, the problem isn't their producers because they are their producers. For example, their album BE was completely self directed.

This is perfect, I listened to RM's solo work and in 'everything goes' it finally occurred to me that despite the lack of technique his voice is really nice! Also Jimin's falsetto reminds me of DK from iKon - both sound like literal angels from heaven. Overall I love this ranking because you actually know what you're talking about.

Finally an unbiased professional!!! I love that you acknokwledge that 5 to 7 are mainly rappers but they still have space to improve their singing. I personally find RM's voice in his solo songs super soothing! I never would've thought Taehyung would be 2nd but after hearing your reasoning it absolutely makes sense! Jimin in #4 is where he belongs, as much as I love him (he single-handedly got me into Kpop), but it does make me sad that he did not take care of his voice from the very beginning....I think he really was at #2 at the time of their debut but he forced it too much over the years.

I'm so happy that you decided to make a new bts ranking video and i'm glad you cleared out the old video. To be honest the previous video was...something. I think it was kinda obvious you were going with more 2016-2017 bts ranking. But again, since you cleared it out it's all good, you're probably my favorite youtuber that does these rankings and you're great at explaining, i'm glad you decided to take on bts again.
About the video, while you were talking about Jimin compressing his voice, i realised that because of this when he brings his voice a little higher it gets really whiny and sounds pleasant but when it's a bit more higher, it startes to sound really....tired?pushy?
And about taehyung,i think since he's so used to using a breathy voice with a lighter sound, when he brings it a lot closer to his actual comfortable range he starts to struggle and can't bring himself to a full-on heavy place. But he has a wonderful voice and i hope we can see him do a classical song in next years, he has just the voice for that(yes i'm obsessed with That Clip from Black Swan Behind The Scene)
Also i was wondering, is Jungkook going for a lot more technical singing in the last years? Before 2018 honestly he always felt like he was going with the flow with an incredible talent and little technique, always choosing style but in recent years i think he improved a lot and he's just. Tae became my bias because of his vocals (it was 'Nessun Dorma' and he was literally goofying there) but I'm kinda glad he doesn't go for such high notes (as in 'Stigma') anymore. I think he doesn't really need to do it, his voice is just suited for other thing. I would love to hear his full voice in baritone register more tho.

despite being pretty airy, taehying has the best diaphragmatic engagement in the group, because of his consistent diaphragmatic engagement he does support better than jungkook as jungkook prefers to sing stylistically, he usually doesn’t like to sing with the proper engagement for any good support that he might be capable of. taehyung however struggles with throatiness and lowers his larynx too often, and for a baritone his lower register is pretty underdeveloped and he can’t even maintain tonality that low because of his lack of a forward placement, but from his lack of technique to jungkook refusing to sing with a proper technique the gap between the two is very small to the point that they are interchangeable
Yeah i agree. However, I feel like Tae slightly improved this year. He reduced his tongue tension and started to try more runs since last year.
@@liz2668 I agree, his tounge tension has shown some improvement, plus he has a full octave of support. I’d say he’s stronger than jk and around rosé’s level of technique. His falsetto runs seem okay at times. I’m glad that he’s showing active improvement, some of the other members have been the same for quite a while
I think JK is more versatile tho, I mean he can sing and he suit different type of genre like we don't talk anymore (pop) coca cola ad (rock) my time (rnb) still with you (jazz ballad) euphoria (edm) decalcomania (ballad) meanwhile Taehyung suit soul-rnb and slow ballads.

To be honest many people make videos or articles analyzing the vocals of BTS, but yours is the most honest and the most professional and unbiased one. I always love your vocal rankings and how you delve into the technicals, I even watch for groups I don’t necessarily love. On a side note, I’d love to see a Onewe + Oneus vocal ranking. They are brother groups(one’s a band with three vocalists and the other a boy group with six). I think you’d really enjoy some of their voices. Yonghoon(Onewe) in particular is like god tier. Someone compiled a 30 minute video of just his live vocals 🥰

So true, in his middle range his voice sound so good and unique but they decided to give him the “high notes” coz he’s the lead vocalist
exactly!! I think the only songs where he actually sounds comfortable are his solo songs + promise. mainly bc like sam said, he uses a lighter mix and doesn't compress as much
honestly from debut-mid 2016 he was their best belter and was actually (inconsistently) supporting his higher register. now he’s evidently suffering from the aftermath of the lack of training from bighit

Also, one of the things people ignore is how EMOTIONAL their voices are. I LOVE how much they make you FEEL the songs and V is the one who makes me feel the most.
I'm proud of Jin. Dude's improved so much since No More Dream.😂 I think what makes BTS appealing is how the vocal line has pairings with eachother and how the vocal line almost echoes the rap line. BTS might not have the best vocals in K-pop but they do believe they have the best rap line.

As someone who loves to sing casually but has no understanding of singing technique, this series is super interesting to me, thank you for making it! Also, I'm Jimin bias and I love the unique sound of his voice, but I absolutely buy the reasoning and can agree with it. Liking someone's voice is a personal opinion that has nothing to do with how good it is technically, and you also made a very balanced analysis highlighting the strengths and weaknesses.

I’m so happy omg I have been waiting!! Overall I would say I fully agree with your ranking due to your explanations (even if initially I would’ve thought differently) they were as good as always!!! Only clips I wish were included/discussed was Jimin in perfect man because I think that’s by far his strongest vocal performance and he sang in a very different placement(?range idk) than usual and also the cover of Fools which I find is the best RM vocals ive heard this far (though I’m not certain that was ever performed live so I understand). Overall 10/10 video I’m so happy!!!!
I have to agree with everything you said in this video. Like most Armys, I am a bit protective over BTS, but I can't deny that their voices aren't always perfect and it wouldn't be fair to expect them to be. But even so, I can acknowledge that they have a few flaws in their voice here and there.
As for the comments you made about Jimin, I'd have to agree. His voice was actually my favorite when I first started stanning BTS and had only heard the studio versions of their songs, but once I started watching live performances, his struggle to stay on key was evident. I am in no way labeling him as a bad singer, but I do think it would be better for him to sing in a range he is more comfortable in which would be songs like Promise. In all honesty, it's because of that that I dropped him as my bias-wrecker and switched to Jungkook. His voice is very reliable and like you said it has the most control. I myself like to sing and so when it comes to finding artists to "bias" I do put a lot more weight on the vocal aspect.
Overall I really liked your ranking/review of each of the members' voices and I know you know a lot more than I do when it comes to singing. All of the rankings were fair and had evidence to back up what you were saying.

I rarely leave comments on YT anymore but I just wanted to applaud you for this video, I love it so much. Your opinions are so well argumented, and I might be biased because this is my exact ranking too, but they make perfect sense to me.
Hobi is easily and by far the best singer of the rap line, and while personal preference might taint some opinions, your ranking is just flawless imo (while I love all of BTS, Taehyung has my favourite voice, but I still acknowledge that Jungkook is technically a better vocalist (meanwhile I love his voice as well, so it's a win all around for me)).
Overall BTS might not be the strongest vocalists in kpop but the character and uniqueness their voices have make them my favourites.
BTW massive props for stating your honest and unbiased opinions. That's unfortunately become a rarity on YT nowadays.

I was always a little iffy with some of the things you said in the other ranking, particularly about RM, but it wasn’t enough to get mad at. This ranking certainly answers a few questions though. And confirmed my thoughts on Jimin as well. Thanks for doing this!

I didn't watch the previous version but I really appreciate it's not another 'reaction video' but you've chosen several live performances and provided great explanation and reasoning.

This is the best ranking so far. V has a good voice, baritone. Some armies saying Jimin should above V. I think Jimin doesn't use his natural voice and it's sound to tight for me. It cracks sometimes and it so unstable. Don't get me wrong its all about my opinion.

I know bts have been improving rapidly vocally, and they're still going to be better and better every year. They also might not be the best vocal line out there in terms of technique, but here's the thing. I absolutely love the style and the colour of their voices. Their voices are so special and unique and versatile, and they compliment each other so well that even if they don't have the best technique, I don't think anyone can sing their songs better than them. Ever. It just won't be the same.
