    Probably the best trucks ever made, witnessed by the amount of them still in daily use in many parts of the world to this day.
    Funnily enough, I was on holiday on the Greek island of Kefalonia just this week and saw a dump truck version of the same truck.
    There is also an even older Mercedes truck at a cafe we visit which the owners dad purchased new and drove all the way from Germany. It still runs as sweet as a nut too.

    Hi Steve. Really enjoyed this one because Corgi made a diecast version back in the day; I’ve seen versions with either a twin-deck car transporter or a tanker trailer. I still have the single-drive tractor but I’m not sure what happened to the trailer! Great to see a 1:1-scale survivor and I reckon she’s well deserving a restoration; 6 years fallow but still virtually on the button, she deserves some love 🙂

    You said the motor was good, Steve, and it sure sounded like it. A quality built unit for certain. I saw a pretty cool old Merc truck once, it had a 3 way tipper body on it. The had a central ram and the bed sat on 4 balls. Depending on which ones were locked and unlocked you could tip to the rear or either side. It was a lot smaller than yours but the cab was similar. All the best, Mart in England.

    This brings back memories too. When i was like 15 or so i had a holiday job at a garden centre an we used to have a L1313 a little 4x4 tipper truck with a hiab crane. Best truck for off roading it never got stuck. I used to drive it around the yard for loading and unloading. I remember that in the centre console there was a knob or a bolt that could be turned to rev up the engine when it was cold and when you pushed it you'de shut it down. Your version would have a OM355 engine installed and actually in Iran these trucks are still produced. But with such a story behind this one it should be fixed up and driven around and not left to rot in the woods.

    I love those Mercedes trucks. I fact, they are indestructible and this one started right away as if it had never stopped working. They were part of my childhood. We lived near a quarry and they would pass our house back in the sixties. I could recognise them by the engine noise It's quite sad to see this one sitting like this, but the core is still working perfectly. It's a jewel and you should keep it and restore it. This short bonnet truck has been a huge success and bestseller for decades..and a lot of them are still used up until today for heavy duty work for their reliability around the world . Here is some of the history.. The first short-bonnet truck model, the Mercedes-Benz L 337, was first produced in Germany in 1959. Its technical successors were in production for export until 1995, long after domestic German sales had ended.[1] The short-bonnet truck was a big export success for Mercedes-Benz and became very popular in the Middle East, Asia Pacific, South America, and Africa. Greetings to down under from Germany

  • @tony66au
    @tony66au Před 3 měsíci +1

    Yup, get her driving out of the spot for sure.
    When I quit driving I worked for an Agency and youd usually get the unloved trucks unless you proved yourself which was fair enough.
    The one I loved of all of them was an Old 1418 Yard pig single drive and I spent a week collecting empty trailers from all over Vic in between cleaning her up cosmetically so I could see out the windows and mirrors lol
    3rd day I asked the workshop to do a few things, tyres, wipers and fluids and 2 hours later I was back at work hauling some long forgotten flat and pantec trailers out of yards and paddocks putting the trailer brake lever to good use.
    Around the yard there were way younger DDEC trucks all pretty and air everything, most of em with AC and way quieter but this old girl spoke to me which was handy hauling long parked trailers.
    I ended up doing a bit of weekend work for that mob every few months or so and they spent some time on that old 1418 and made her whole, even chucked a new seat in her and a roof mount AC for summer which was decent of em, They never offered and I never asked for a different truck but she was pretty schmicko and got a few nods from the old blokes.

    Great to see Steve, I believe the M.A.N trucks of this area were very similar? drove one on a farm with no brakes so had to be on to it with the 6speed ZF box. Boss ran out of diesel one day which made for an interesting trip down the paddock. Truck had a 240v plug hanging out the grill that was often joked about, apparently it had a coil in the sump to keep it warm overnight when it had worked in Canberra.. Great old trucks!

    This truck quite famous here in Malaysia after the Nissan Diesel UG780.A lot of them being used as dump truck, trailer and rigid. And being used till now despite the engine, gearbox, axle and diff has been modified. Some of daycab model has been modified by using wooden cabin for more room and space for sleeping.Theres an option for sleeper cab for this model but its expensive and rare here including 6×4 edition. Some of them still in original daycab.Theres 3 version of facelift. The first one with same round headlamp but no oval shape just like in this video.2nd version just like in the video where theres an oval shape for front grill.3rd one is the 4 square shape headlamp combine with front grill. The military edition has 4×4 model with machinegun hatch at top of the roof.

      Not really a problem with diesel, it's not nearly as flammable as petrol.

    Wow that M-B sounds like it ran yesterday rather than years ago. Smooth, and good revs when you hammer it. Very nice Steve! If the tires and turn signal lenses are less than about $480,000 (like they would be here in Canada 😃) , this one would be a nice utility truck around your place I think , if a used cab can be found. Liked the video. Cheers.

    I know you're not into buses Steve, but there's a very good reason UTA/ STA/ Sydney bought hundreds of Mercedes-Benz O.305s back in the 80s to replace their ageing fleet of Leyland Leopards.
