My father and all my grandparents came from Ireland. As well as several of my aunts and uncles. My mother was born here and raised me on those songs. As I study the Irish those songs were forgotten. Now that I am 73 it is all different. St Patricks' Day is not a day where I feel much like celebrating being Irish. The Pub's are full of Green Beer Irish who are just like the people in that song. However I sit at home and listen to those very same songs and celebrate my imgreite family. Those were the songs of the Irish Dysphoria away from their homes trying to hold themselves together. For me those songs bring back memories of my Mother and my childhood.
