Are there words to describe the perfection of this live performance? God, what a voice. Perfect pitch on every note plus smooth and easy transitions and added flavor. His voice is an instrument he can play like none other. That's a live vocal performance...hard to believe anyone could deliver that...but Peter Cetera did!! Just wow.
It's the first song I listened from Chicago. I was just eleven and I fell in love with this blond guy. Today I can't believe it, but he's 68 years old and his voice is the same. I mean it's better than never. I love Peter Cetera and I had the chance to go to his show here in Brazil this year. It was unforgetable.
MEE TOO!! Only I Had Just Turned 10 & Was Living In Boulder, Colorado🇺🇸 - Just Down The Canyon From Caribou Ranch - The Studio Where Chicago Recorded! I Fell In Love With The WHOLE Band All @ Once - Loved Those HORNS!! What A GREAT Sound They Had...And Peters' Voice, Of Course!!❤💕
I have always loved this song! Used it in a tape (yep, I'm old) I made for a girlfriend of mine years ago. Simply a great, great song, sung by a phenomenal singer.
All these years I thought I was a Chicago fan wrong, I'm a Peter Cetera fan. So much talent such a beautiful unique voice and gorgeous man. that song should have been number one. HAPPY RETIREMENT PETER. We'll never forget your voice! Wishing you health and happiness!
Peter Cetera undeniably one of the best vocalists EVER ! But ... listen to the ribbon of percussion tying this beautiful song together. Laudir de Oliveira was in his own right, a superstar! Masterfully weaving this song into a warm blanket of comfort for the senses. RIP Laudir 1940-2017
Already said this..But..man, gotta say it everytime..I LOVE PETER..I LOVE THIS SONG! I sing it to my dog 🐕❤️...she goes nuts, lays on me,wags, ans actually listens to the song...twisting her head...funny stuff..
He has a voice that gives me chills... I've been listening to Chicago forever. I'm 70 yrs and I'm still looking their music listening to Peter's voice...❤
I am going to see Peter Cetera in Berlin on 7th of November 2018, after waiting for decades finally it happens! Peter - I am sure that I will be a "very happy woman" !!:-))
went to high school in the late 60's and early 70's and Chicago was the greatest band and for me.... Happy Man was the best song ever from Chicago, and yes, I'm from Chicago and knew very well the bands siblings and parents. many years ago......
This song oddly never got any airplay on the radio all these years even though it is among their best - one of my favorites from Chicago....so many favorites!!!
I grew up in Brazil and this song was such a huge success down there.. I've been in US for the past 18 years, listening to the radio during morning and evening commute, I don't remember hearing it once ... such sad thing for so great song... yup, my Chicago's favorite.
When it first came out, and radio stations were independently owned and not run by big corporations, it got a LOT of airplay, esp. on FM rock stations.
I got the 1991 Chicago music CD box set titled Group Portrait. A little book came with that box set. This is from what I remember from that book. Their producer who I think was also a manager named James William Guercio stated something to this effect;, (Happy Man was an unreleased number one.) I think a majority of this paragraph that I cut and pasted is also from that book as well. ---------- The album in this paragraph is referring to Chicago VII------ Cetera, who never claimed to be a Jazz musician, was discouraged about the original concept of the album, and also at his lack of participation as songwriter. He showed Guercio the lilting, Latin-tinged ballad “Happy Man.” “You know when people talk about these flashes of something coming?” Cetera asks. “They do, in fact. Every once in a while, a song will just come out of your mouth, the words and everything. It’s remembering it or having a tape player around when that happens that’s the important part. I wrote “Happy Man” about midnight driving down the San Diego Freeway on my motorcycle. It was the one and only song that I ever remembered, words and music, and I went home and sang it into a tape a day later.” That above cut and paste came from this website about Chicago chicagotheband.com/a-chicago-story/
And here is the heart of Chicago - Peter Cetera always gave his best when performing. That is why so many people wanted him back with Chicago. Just not the same.
Chicago i remember when i was in my country and i listened for the first time just you and me and also Old Days what a beautiful Thanks CHICAGO X EVERY MEMORY
@@tagomago994 too bad a comparison must always be made. These were two polar opposites; literally one sings in lowest register and other high; even though Peter sings well in midrange, such as the verse parts of Beatles "Got to get you into my life". Unquestionably they both oozed soul. But it is not fair to declare one better than the other, just for the distinct differences in vocal range. Then it comes down to opinion. Terry Kath was marvelous: an enigmatic leader, master guitarist, soulful singer. His death raised him up on a pedestal of perfection and there he will remain for dying so young; as is the case with Marilyn Monroe, Jimi Hendrix, so many others. One can't compete with the legendary dead who passed far too soon.
When I hear this song and others from Chicago VII...I remember so clearly being a toddler and my Mom playing it while doing house work and I'd open the album cover's gatefold to look at the pictures while the songs played.
One of the greatest bands to ever play. As newlyweds, this was our first ever concert. They absolutely blew the roof off the place. My ears were ringing for two days. The following year they were back in town and we went again. Those were two of the best concerts ever…

One of the many songs that Cetera wrote to or about his former spouse, Diane Nini, with whom he became involved in about 1973. He really poured his heart out on his solo album, World Falling Down (1992), after they had split. He's never remarried.

What a beautiful song, performance and a wonderful and handsome singer like Peter Cetera. Nobody like him.💖
Cetera's voice is unbelievable. This is one of my favorites by Chicago

Peter did a remake of this song on his album, “One Clear Voice”. I like that version better than this one. Not that this one is bad by any means.
