That is for sure. With a payment of $55. Million over 3 years sure. But you work out the numbers why wouldn’t the media and interviews try and discredit every other politician. Except the hands that feed the. Up until now. The red army. The one source of truth. Yeah right. If you believe that then you must still be asleep along with the many other people who went along with the mandates. Rolled up their sleeves and are now paying the price for not rocking the boat in their once prefect world of freedom Yeah right. They gave that up so easily. Our soldiers went to war. To fight for our freedom
Lest we forget. Jack Tane wouldn’t be able to speak freely about any topic. Let a lone rubbish he is worried about. When there are much more pressing problems to solve. The price of petrol, food etc
We have to be able to LIVE before worrying about the cost of keeping a prisoner. Maybe look at a cheaper alternative. Rather than focusing on the costing. Grow up Jack Tane and maybe next 3 year’s campaign you will have the chance to redeem this terrible interview Good luck with that

@UlfilasNZ True, I'd think he'd be prepared on the numbers related to policy, but how do you answer a question like "How many people will receive care?" The numbers from today to tomorrow will differ, but yes, he should at least have had some vague numbers. Instead he refused to use vague numbers like with the "How many gang members in prison?" He explained that corrections couldn't give a definitive number. We've heard the palava about his member using the "you" phrase and he's explained it many times. We've all heard about He Poa Poa and he's explained about Jackson many times. I didn't know about the "vaccine post" but it seems he's explained it and corrected many times. Jack's interview, to me, was a nothing new burger delivered in a way that leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

I've usually been a fan of Jack Tame, but this was a terrible interview. It was clear that he came prepared to specifically throw shade on Winston. Half of his questions weren't about policy but about past incidents. Even the policy questions were poorly constructed.
    - Nobody knows how many inmates are involved in gangs. That number would be constantly changing. He could have asked for a ballpark answer, but his exact number would be terribly inaccurate. Plus there are lots of levels. Are you heavily involved, not so much, just in it to survive? It's a terrible question. To estimate the costs would also be tough, because things are constantly changing. How many government projects do we have that say a budget of 10m then it blows out to 40million.
    - Aged care question was also silly. As Winston said, the number of people who can enter aged care relies heavily on the amount of workers available. His goal is to help get more workers which will then open up spots for people to get care.
    - His point about the co-governance quote using the word 'you', umm can someone tell Jack Tame what personification is...SMH
NZF is hoping to be a coalition partner. They don't get to decide the exact levels of what they want to spend tax money on, but what they can do is say these are our policies and we will negotiate on how much money we need to help these policies. Jack was super aggressive and it was unnecessary. I'm surprised Winston didn't walk out.

      - asking about the amount is actually pretty reasonable given the unclosed financial hole in national's (peters' likely coalition parter) tax plan to ensure that the costing has been accounted for
      - winston has been changing his story on this quote since the leader's debate; originally, it was talking about "māori elite", but now he's rescinded that and said that his member was talking about "co-governance". you have to agree, it makes a lot more sense to use the word "you" if you're talking about people, not an abstract concept like co-governance

Guards have orders to shoot on sight or let you get a wee zap from the fence. A zero bull shit prison. You'll get your rights back when you become a civilized human again who can act normal in society. Follow the rules, and you'll be fine. You'll only die if you try to escape. So don't try and escape. It's simple. Will point out. Cops etc in America have been 3 point holsters for guns. You have to do 3 steps in a certain order to get the gun out. Unless you're trained. You'll either won't know how to get it out, or it'll take you ages. At that point. You'll have multiple guards reminding you it's a bad idea to try to take the gun.

Prisons are an industry. The prison industry has been privatized. Privatizing the prison industry means investors and corporations are involved, which means they can buy land and build Jails. This means every prisoner here in NZ is stock on the shelf. These investors don't want the stock to leave the shelf but want it to be replenished daily. They don't want crime to decrease but build their hopes on crime-centred communities. They only care about their profit. They are a cooperation based on profit. Their goal is to profit from crime. The prisoner is the tenant, and the Govt pays their rent. They don't want to decrease crime, increase family values, or strengthen the family with stable two-parent homes. This idea, this ancient value based on sound principles of healthy whanau, is the greatest threat to crime and prison growth. These corporations want our fathers, mothers, children, and grandchildren to feed their needs for long-term profit. Every Govt has a way to deal with crime: That is to feed our children into the cells of cooperative depravity. No one is talking about saving the whanau. Instead, the Govt wants to kill our babies through passing laws to kill them in the womb. The whanu is being destroyed by legislation, and as long as the government keeps it there, crime will always be big business. Revering this is easy, but wanting to do it is impossible.

Whilst I agree with many of your points I am still of the opinion that the manner in which the questioning was done, the tone of it was very disturbing. It is still possible to pursue truth without making that pursuit sound like the Inquisition. Disrespect towards other people, regardless of their position, politicians or not, whether you agree with their point of view or not, especially in a such a public forum, legitimises such conversation, particularly when accepted and condoned. It encourages others to behave like that in other areas of life too, get their way by shouting and atempting bullying tactics. I have seen political interviews in the past by tough, intelligent journalists, who did not give up the pursuit of answers when deflected by tactics of interviewees. They were persistent, did not let things slide or let the interviewee get away with not answering, but I have not witnessed this kind of approach which not only did not provide answers (whether due to Peters not being in possession of that information or due to his not being given the opportunity to explain why such estimates might be inaccurate.... ) but created a very unpleasant atmosphere. Re the throw away comment at the end by Peters, it was not a smart one and he realised it as soon as it passed his lips; but I suspect it arose out of sheer frustration of how the interview was conducted, not actually a promise of retaliation...

State funded TV has an agenda. A petty little interview. This is a horrendous watch. Winston was treated with contempt. It appeared as if Jack just wanted to score little points. Rather, as an undecided voter I would have preferred civility and a deeper discussion on the issues rather than a systematic point scoring petty interview. Ryan on the Breakfast show asks hard questions but manages to engage in conversations that tend to be helpful and enlightening.

How on earth can you support this kind of behaviour from Winston Peters? Threatening a journalist for asking hard-biting questions? Winston Peters got the vote that he did this election by appealing to people with authoritarian personalities like yourself. Shameful conduct on behalf of Winston Peters.
By the way, the silence at the end was not because Jack was quivering in his chair out of fear, as you might suggest, but because saying nothing and letting this old fool incriminate himself on national television was the best course of action.

This was some really solid questioning by the interviewer. Winston Peters is a very skilled politician and can dance around difficult questions with the best of them.

I wanted to hear about why these policies are needed, not Jack trying to artificially force Winston to say specific numbers which would then be used to rip them apart. Just so frustrating and no understanding of how policies are developed. Forcing numbers prematurely is just such a waste of time.
