Jerry West dies at 86

Jerry West, a West Virginia native, died on June 12, 2024. He was born in Chelyan, WV located in the Upper Kanawha Valley. West’s basketball journey began with shooting at a homemade basket attached to a shed. He rose to the top of the basketball world by winning Olympic gold and bringing “Showtime” to basketball during his tenure as the long-time general manager of the Los Angeles Lakers. He also served as the inspiration behind the National Basketball Association’s logo.
