- This interview with Nick was after my documentary was already finished. It was for a prologue to show my film again on ARTE. Nick talks about Murder Ballads, The Boatmans Call and being happy. Susie was already in his life.

Nicks reaction to her complimenting his eyes is the most adorable thing I’ve ever seen it’s nice seeing the softer side of his personality show through
Making him take off the 'glasses & feel uncomfortable is unsettling tho'; she's creepy & rude :(
@@Mozarts-Sister she’s his friend you weirdo, but if you know anything about him, you’d know he doesn’t like that kind of attention.
I like the fact that it gets darker, literally, as it progresses.
This guy is just who he is. Not a poser at all. Does not really like talking about himself at all. That’s fine. He has an empathetic energy . Introverted /extrovert.
@@TheBigMclargehugehe used to be a smackhead but he still seems down to earth
@@TheBigMclargehuge he did heroin for years, I don't know about coke
No, he's got ASD; no into/extro guff. & ASD use drugs/drink to cope with & buffer against a crazy world designed for crazy non-ASD..
@@Mozarts-Sister with peace and love, I think you maybe shouldn't be diagnosing people with pretty complex disorders when you haven't even met them. A great deal of people are NOT showing anything close to their true self in an interview situation
Lol I bet if you had a regular person acting this way in real life you'd just call him an awful person. But because he is a celebrity he is somehow mystical to you.
Despite the apparent aura of "arrogance" that some people think to perceive in Nick Cave, this interview shows he is deeply humble. I mean, the girl who interviews him asks him to take his glasses off, she lectures him about love, physicality and spirituality, she tells him that he is never happy with himself as a person, etc etc... and, despite he is totally pissed off and with a big hangover, he takes all of that "softly" and builds very significant and honest answers. You can even tell how deeply painful for him is when she says that his lyrics and songs have nothing to do with his life, and he goes back to that theme many times explaining in a very nice and deep way how deeply his songs are related to his own life and being. Any other rock star or great musician would have stopped the interview and just leave since the first second. So, I guess they two are friends.
He's always had such an interesting personality. On stage he's beyond extroverted maniac seen him many times live. He's extremely shy in elements like this.
I think, He is full of drugs.....
I think, he's ASD & naturally, understandably, hates social crap & vile interviews, & uses drink/drugs to negotiate a world built for weird non-ASD - but hey, who knows..
MozartsSister You only think so because you've been conditioned to see temperament and human behavior as a "disorder." Break the conditioning.
@@JoNas-hb9zm I think he is NOT. He'd been clean for several years by this interview
He's so... murble, to say so, for want of word. .. I just can't distinguish between him being confused and confusing, intimidated and intimidating one... Probably both of them.
gosh he has a nice voice love him
I would kill to go to a poetry lecture by Nick Cave
there is a lovesong writing lecture by him, look it up

I loved that album and had no idea it gave him a hit. The Boatman"s Call is a masterpiece.
Oh you have succeeded in your love songs, so rich, deep and tender yet powerful. Thank you Mr Cave. ❤
The Beaudelaire of rock music. He is willing to delve to the depths, an Orpheus pursuing his Eurydice into the underworld. Powerful, evocative songs that resonate down to the pith.
He probably thinks the same of himself.
@@indydude3367 I sure hope he's not that obnoxious.
Is he an Orpheus or a Hades, though?…
‘The Beaudelaire of rock music?
My god I hate Nick Cave fans.
Could you be any wankier?
Lmao uhhhhh. I think I stuck my head in the wrong classroom. I got the number on the door wrong. So, sorry to interrupt! I'm trying to find Pre-Algebra. Have a lovely, psycho-neuro-expanding, but smoothly interpersonally, all-out pleasurably learning experience..and again, here, thereof, I only wish upon thy, a goddamn motherfuggin, awe -inspiring day, people...
...Professor, you n all.
Above all, excuse me.
1997 was his peak hotness i swear i would marry that man
I would still merry him. Went to Brighton few years ago with a ready marriage proposal if I see him on the street :D
I agree, and you weren't the only woman who thought that! 😂
@Tin Garaus The problem is they couldn't really see him in action when you played the record. If you took them to a show you'd probably get the opposite response. MTV, as much as he hated it, made him the vampire supermodel of rock in the 90s.
@Tin Garaus well, I'm not an eighties girl but i don't see many women my age thristing over guys like cave either 😂
Agreed, but man he looks bad here. The dark shadows around his eyes, and just general look of a man fully in his heroin addiction. I find him mesmerising when he’s on stage, so this is something we don’t see too often with Nick, which makes it super interesting.
Beautiful sensitive Nick Cave
Like a hot loaf of bread in a prison bakery and a mad man swears if he removed the inner core of the loaf he can build himself a very warm love muscle, some men use potter's clay, other men explore the avarice of the human imagination, we are all lovers of broken hearts, Nick's most tender moments are like a cracked rib bone, it makes you weep and wince.
As uncomfortable as he is, I can never take my eyes off him.
Thank you x
This is gold.
a dark cover with gold soul
You don't ask a rock star of Cave's calibre to take off his shades, you just don't...
There’s nothing rude about it
@Lisa Surlie Rick Ocasek in the same league as Nick Cave? Oh, dear, and neither of them are gods. Ask them to remove the shades if you want
Jesus if he read these comments lmao….
But he’s such beautiful eyes…😂
I'm on board with Nick here. The artist interview is not unlike a sporting interview where both parties tend to speak in clichés. I don't know Nick, but I don't think he is shy, I think he is an introvert. Introverts can be extroverted in the pursuit of something meaningful, like self-expression. The layperson may be curious about an artist's creative pursuits however, it is often routine and mundane.
This is actually what a real rock star is
“Spit it out” ahahaha
Smacked out of his head.
Love this dude, just love im...💓🇮🇪
Buzzing bit higher then planned 😎
He can’t take it seriously I think, because he doesn’t ever wanna talk about his old albums. Once it’s made, he’s done with it. It’s weird that she’s friends with him, and is making him go through it.
Through what? It’s an interview
She isn’t making him do shit. As he explained, he has a good relationship with his record company which gives him complete artistic control and in return he does interviews to promote the album
crying for that accent i mean the way he said 'particularly'
To all the dummies saying he's strung out on heroin here, no he's not. That's not what that looks like, he looks clear, healthy, and lucid, and his eyes are widely dilated and bright. So what he's pale and thin...he's just beautiful. That's all.
Nanni must be very beautiful, because he doesn't look at her!
His demeanour reminds me of some one in a Court witness box, sullenly aloof, detached from the crime of having too much talent, like a compass that can go crazy as you pass the earthy poles, spinning wildly like a pole dancer in a Gentlemen's club. Let her rip Nick...
I want..
Six of what you're on.
And you're fuckin...a thousand percent right. Deadass right..fucking-On.
Looks like tough times .
This is so Nick Cave, in not watching into camera unless he significanly means to; asked to take his spectacles off by the interviewer in the very first seconds- so uncomfortable for him I believe.
He seems anoid and pissed off. I love his voice and i love him.
His failure to make any eye contact is maddeningly distracting.
It's very autistic.
I think he fancies her, and that was true shyness when she complimented him. This is him in peak heroin addiction, and it makes you realise why someone like him who is so uncomfortable in his own skin, and has an addictive personality used drugs the way he did. Can you imagine him without drugs at this time. Thankfully he has grown up and learned how to live clean.
It's not being autistic or fancying anyone; He's bored out of his skull with the interview and the standard questions that's what it is.
@@PSYCHOTRONICbrdcst most likely this. People in the comments section love to pretend to be psychologists and come up with pretentious explanations for anything
It's pretentious to ignore the obvious just 'cos you dislike it. Aspergers hate pointless small talk, esp with aliens= interviews, & naturally avoid eye-contact. I find that 'normal' yet the comments are full've people complaining, & people don't want their idols to be ASD, to be something they don't understand & usually look down on, not up to.
As a said before Word Leviathan...Did u know he lost two teenage sons within 10 years..?Wrap myself in a bubble wrap of sadness
Is that Nick Cave or Freak Storm?
I can only imagine what they are going to do after the interview

THIS is the first time I'm seein CAVE really strong out on HERIOIN.......

Dear Nick, I'm from...not 1997. I'm from the future(2024) Don't worry. You definitely DID write the greatest love song. You, my man, wrote "No Pussy Blues".
Nothing..yet has topped that. Not even Burt Bacharach.
So don't worry. You have the crown.
So, Have a nice day. And peace, from 2024.

My beliefs in that sort of thing have consolidated..... God i wish I had used it to make what he did .
This guy is an actor.
yes, that's exactly what I thought too
🤦🙄
Coooooocaaaaaine!!!
Heroin, I believe.
I'm not sure probably both! But I've always heard a heroine addict doesn't mix up both many times cause the effect's completely the opposite then I suspect it's quite dangerous, cause it courses an overdose!! What an Awful addiction!! It doesn't really matter what you're hooked on just take a look at Him, he was in a right state, suffering from his very innermost thoughts, feelings and deepest soul... What a great Pity!!
Not true. A little white keeps you awake and alert with opiates. It’s when people over do it. It becomes dangerous or ruins the buzz of the other.

It's rude to tell someone to take off your sunnies... it's akin to him asking her to take off her top... leave him alone... he's a rock star...
lol that's absolutely not the same thing
@@nora912 - for celebs it is... why do you think so many celebs like to wear shades, they feel less vulnerable, less exposed to the public staring at them and watching them, your eyes show your emotions... take your sunnies away and you are exposed... like a woman without her top on...
@@thetheraine I loved how he looked at her after she complimented his eyes. She's right tho,his eyes are so beautiful
It is if your shy. It’s rude asf.
Interviewing a bad seed or a cursed artist.
Hope he called Shick for the smoking, good lord
Why'd she make him take off his 'glasses?! If he's more comfy with, just let him be ffs. Sums up NTs attitude to ASD.. No wonder musicians hate interviews; having to explain themselves to strangers, management pressuring for 'PR' - it's nice for us fans who want to know more, but for an artist, not so great..

‘What other ways are there?’ To write about women - ‘physical or spiritual’. So sad he’s captured by the piggishness of AustraliAn maleness, despite his artist sensibilities.
I don't find his comments to be misogynistic if that's what you're implying. I guess he's referring to the idea that mankind are no more than just physical and spiritual beings, and that there aren't really any other ways in which we can interpret our emotions towards other people (in this case, women, due to him being a heterosexual male).
You're just an object to Nick. Get over it.
Elizabeth Hepner - So sad you're captured by the priggishness of misandrist toxicity, despite your wannabe critical sensibilities. So sad.
The spiritual and the physical basical encompasses the spectrum of being a human. We are spirits in the material world
Ok, so what other way could you write? Think about it...
Within the first 10 seconds he fidgets with his cigarette and the hacks out a cough. I stopped watching. He's always been overindulged by the press.
Who is this clown?
Asks the thumb in a tie dye shirt.
@@plastixpoon and ur hiding behind a screen talking shit about someone else personal appearance when you afraid to even show yourself mate
This" clown "is talented! And 20 years + still is relevant musically, and probably has more to say than you.😆😆
Clown? He’s a real writer a brilliant one. You have to have intelligence to understand his music it’s for intellectuals and people that actually live real music. Not some JellyRoll, post Malone or Taylor grift
He’s a damn legend
It's difficult to diagnose a former mental patient from his occupation with sound, I once had a schizophrenic friend who when he got high from anything, would talk in tongues like he was possessed, clasp his hands over his ears and throw an epileptic fit, nobody could understand him but I did, I used to take him to rock concerts and no one knew the difference.
