    This is a 78 i believe, my dad had a 77, it was his first car back in 1986, and it is a legendary car in my head, the sound of the secondaries opening up from that thermoquad 4 barrel has put such an impression on me i love it, unfortunately when my dad was done with it, it went to the junkyard, and was probably picked apart, but i have one thing from that car, the hood ornament, and it sits on my night stand, and i admire it and turn it in my hands often, it has many memories of my dad driving wrecklessly, and I absolutely love it

    Nice score, Dylan. Chrysler's answer to the Monte Carlo. These cars may have been over the top but, they were ever so reliable and always did what they were supposed to do given proper care, maintenance and respect. If you are going to re-build the Carter Thermoquad there is a channel on YT by the name of "Peter Anderson" who does a meticulous job of explaining and showing exactly how it's done. He's Australian and a teacher after working for many years in the industry 'Down Under'. It's in my humble opinion that he's definitely worth a look at as well as his other videos on all sorts of things. Thank you.
    P.S. Those old plugs looked like the gap was set far too close. 0.035" is the proper gap. Will you run Ac Delco or NGK? I like both because they don't burn up like Champion. Bosch is also a great choice, however, a little pricey. Correct me if I'm wrong but, can you use the higher lift camshaft from a 440? I think you can. You may even have one floating around in your shop. Thanks.

    there are sparkplugs with longer shanks that thread deeper into the head,it unshrouds the electrode.i think earlier 440 plugs.the ones your using actually places the electrode in the hole away from the combustion chamber.a old mopar man showed me on a loose set of heads that it brings them flush with the heads chamber.a very noticable improvement on the 76 cordoba 400 that i had.for some reason the plug it calls for in the book is the short thteaded one.

I paid 4 grand for a beautiful time capsule 78 dodge magnum one owner with a tick over 56k on the odometer almost 10 years ago, and was able to sell it for over twice that after a guy saw it when i was fueling her up. He literally would not leave me alone so i said give me ten for it, we haggled and ended up at 8700 bucks!!! Not a bad investment at all, but i don't believe for a minute the car in this clip was bought for 6 hundred bucks!! I just picked up a 78 monte carlo 305 all original with around 80k miles for 3k, so i'll just say his purchase reeks of bullshit!!

    • @01trsmar
      @01trsmar Před 6 lety +3

      Biggest thing was lean burn and 2.45 axle ratio...Non lean burn 400 4bbl with 3.21's we ran 13.9 bone stock besides no lean burn and true x pipe duel exhaust..360 4bbl ran low 14's with 3.21's and that went from 15.50 - 15.90's with a 79 300 (Cordoba) with the e 58 360 4bbl dead stock,we removed lean burn..This was back when they were actually under 100,000 mile cars in 1980-1985...Now they are all 240,000 - 340,000 miles...Sure some under 100,000 but those are pristine looking ones..

      +01trsmar My brother bought a brand new 78 Magnum with 360 and 2.45s . My dad bought a new 78 Cordoba the same. The FIRST thing Both did was ditch the 2 barrel intake and all for 340 intakes and carb plus switched to electronic ignition, better exhaust, and enjoyed the hell out of the 2.45s. Both cars had 999 transmissions with the low first gear. Neither had any intentions of the 1/4 mile. We had plenty others for that. We still have the Magnum. Both cars were used in all forms of travel and loved them both. Love Mopar, but the lean burn hit the trash on both of these cars when they were new.

    • @shaunclifton5281
      @shaunclifton5281 Před 6 lety +3

      01trsmar NO one with Any mechanical skills kept the lean burn, much less 2 barrel intakes. I remember going to friends' houses that had bought brand new vehicles, and watching them toss the 2 barrel intakes, and switch to an aluminum intake and new 4 barrel within the first 3 days of ownership.

    Oh man, my dad traded a TV for a 77 with the 400ci back in 2005 when people hated these cars. It was sitting for like 15 years, only took a few hours to get the ol bag going once that crap stock carb was changed. 78k original miles too, nice copper color outside with brown cloth interior. Man I miss that thing, too bad she was rusty.

    they don't make cars like that anymore. What was so cool about those days was that the average person could tell an Olds Cutlass from a Ford Galaxie to a Chevrolet Impala...just some examples but you get the idea. Uniqueness, not oval or round bubbles making up nearly every car today.

    Perfect car for the ratty Muscle Cars Cruise, big block power and a rough-mean look. Great purchase for the price too, it just needs the right cam, dual exhaust and maybe a rear gear change and it'll be plenty fast for a big car. I have a 71 Fury with a 400 2 barrel and a 3.73 rear gear and its vey fast for a 4200 pound stock 2 barrel car.
    With the kickdown properly adjusted it goes about 85MPH in second gear in drive lol.

    • @BuzzLOLOL
      @BuzzLOLOL Před 6 lety +1

      Your speedometer is prolly reading wrong after the rear end change... 85 MPH would be 7,000 RPMs... which your stock engine isn't doing...

    • @Impactjunky
      @Impactjunky Před 6 lety +3

      @BuzzLOLOL It came with that gear. Did you not see where my message said it was stock? And every stock big block Mopar I've ever driven quit pulling/valve float at around 6000-6500 rpm so good job making yourself look like a real expert there Mr. know it all. I can see you obviously don't have a very good grasp of how tall/wide the gearing is in a 727 either.

    • @1400IntruderVS
      @1400IntruderVS Před 6 lety +1

      BuzzLOLOL 85 MPH with 3.73:1 rear gear in a car with out an over drive or 1.00:1 top gear is a little over or under 4000 RPM depending on tire height. If you ever actually built a car you would know that.
