How to Carve Spooky Stairs for your Halloween Village Display (add this detail for less than $13!)

- Adding spooky stairs to your Halloween village display is a fun, fantastic, inexpensive, and easy way to elevate the look of your display.
In this video, I will show you three different techniques to carve stairs out of Styrofoam.
If you’re just starting out in crafting or village displays you might need to purchase a few materials, including Styrofoam, paint, paintbrushes and a box cutter.
Chances are, you already have some of these materials, and if you’re already using Styrofoam as your platform base, you can add this detail to your village for no additional cost!!
For extra spooky flair you could add moss, figurines, pumpkins, lights…whatever your spooky heart desires!

It looked like you painted them dark brown then did a top coat of white, but I know there's a lot more detail to it & I would love to learn how you do it. 😊

The best tool to use for foam is hot wire, foam tools

@@KelleyDoesStuff no I haven’t but I’ve used them for creating a mannequin body for my Halloween prop. I used the cheap harbor freight mats. I’ve been watching your how to videos to try to start a spooky town miniature town. I got a bunch of free styrofoam white blocks from tractor supply. I heard on another CZcams video they give them away and they are huge. Thank you again

How do i rough up the stairs to look like yours in your days of dead display?
Use a rock with lots of texture or a rolled up piece of aluminum foil to roll over the XPS Styrofoam. This foam will take the texture of whatever you put on it. I get mine at Home Depot. It comes in sheets of 2’x2’x1” for $6.97. I’ll also use a box cutter or some type of blade to cut out notches and ridges for more texture. But the main texture comes from a really rough rock!

I feel like the stacking stairs method shouldn't be as hard as it looks lol😂 but girl I'm having a hard time with the amount of stairs and the way they stick out. Definitely need some practice.

Oh yes! Lots of practice for sure. If I take a break for a while I’m like whaaaaat? How does this work? Honestly that’s one of the things I love about Halloween because if it ends up looking wild or weird or wonky I’m like oh it’s supposed to be spooky!! Keep going and have fun. I’m sure your stairs are spooktacular!
