My sister Gwen(sadly lost to cancer last july) took me to see Jnr Walker and the all stars with Edwin Starr as the support! Remember being pissed off that he didnt play this song on the night. I was only 10! My sister Gwen lifted me up and i got Edwin Starr's autograph :) He was AMAZING that night,he Blew jnr Walker off the stage! 25 yrs later i was playing with my band supporting Edwin Starr with my brother,Edwin walked in, Looked at me and said"hey man! your band sounds pretty good!, I'm gonna sing with you guys!"Looked at Dougie in disbelief, remembered Beautiful Gwen Thomas lifting me up and making a telephone call to her the next day buzzing my head off!!! Thank you Gwen Mum and Dad for giving me my love for music. Got a feeling i would want to call you a lot this year Gwen xxxxxxxxxx :)

Barry James Thomas I too saw Jr Walker with Edwin Starr in the early 70s at Manchester Free Trade Hall. What a fantastic night! Edwin sang War, and one by one the instruments stopped playing until there was just the drummer, he threw his sticks and just played the bass drum, buh, bum, buh, bum, buh, bum (just lie a heartbeat). The drum stopped, Edwin announced, 'Ladies and Gentlemen, THIS is the effect of WAR!' WOW!!!I managed to get to the front of the stage for Jr's set. At one stage he was lying down and playing one handed, the sound coming from that horn defied science. I pushed my hand toward him and he shook it, never missed a note. What pros those guys were, when compared to the processed crap that's churned out nowadays.I still have the ticket, the programme and the FREE badge they were giving out on the way in. Happy days!

You know this video is quite fitting of the song. It's something so sweet about this song and the night when walked the right way. Mr. Walker had such command of that Sax. Actually his tempo was almost as if he was speaking ........ sadly we can't really walk through the night, these days and in many cities! And sadly Mr. Walker is not here anymore. RIP : )
