Paul , You were stretching out the tone of an fantastic guitar by adding the bone pins but you can hear a more "Sweeter" sound if you will. Maybe a bit more projection on the bottom end but over all it was a good choice. Easy and cheap way to get the last bit of goodness out of a guitar no matter the price point ! Paul I hope `24 treats you and your family many blessing`s !
hey Terry, you summed it up perfectly. I was trying to squeeze every drop of tone out of this one! It's such a great guitar, really at any price. Thanks for your support, and Happy New Year to you!
Your other choice is to measure the width of the pin below the collar and order pins that fit. Keep in mind that Guild pins have a slot in the collar too so they sit properly on the bridge. Guild uses a 3 degree taper too.
Another great, informational video, brother Paul. The opener was pretty dadgum great, especially considering the fact that you don’t play the harp very often. I hope you experiment more with it. It seemed to me that the bone pins allowed the true sound of that beast to come through, more balanced. Loved the video, brother man 👍🏻
Brother Randy your feedback is always appreciated 🙏. I’m really glad you enjoyed it, hopefully it will help someone out there. This Guild continues to be one of my favorite guitars to play, despite its being one of the least valuable. Just goes to show ya….🎸😎🙏
I highly prefer wooden pins for strummer guitars. They're more mellow, and makes the strings blend together. Also, they're lighter, so the top is a bit more sensitive to the touch. But any of the two is 5 times better than plastic.
@@paulgeorgia8013 The solid-top abalone one is very very good, but not otherworldly. Its neck is overset, string action is too high with low of a saddle. String ramping should fix this issue, still a bitter taste. Also, fat from stock nut started leeching into the fretboard, and its whiter there, like someone covered it with white powder. The all-solid rosewood one is a different story! It's the best sounding guitar I've ever had, and the neck angle is perfect. Ebony bridge and fretboard are 1000 times more beautiful than micarta, they just look RIGHT. The sound is extremely balanced across the spectrum. Thick pickguard is somewhat gorging the higher frequencies, but they're still really really good. It strikes great balances between sounding simple and being overly rich with harmonicas, tinny. If I hit it a bit harder, it has such an enveloping bass, wow. I wish it was lighter and had a thinner neck. But the beauty and sound make it worthy the compromise! My most recent gem is Cort Earth 100 SSF, my first ever short scale acoustic, got it new for ~310$. Can't stop telling people how I enjoy it! If you ever wanted a J-45 clone to gig with, you GOTTA try this one out. The sunburst is just PERFECT. Sound is SURPRISINGLY good.

The harmonica killed the sound of your guitar.
Sorry, that wasn’t meant to be a demo. Just sharing 2 minutes of music
