    As a newcomer to wildlife, I really appreciate these types of videos!

    Beautiful birds Ryan. I love the reflected light underneath.

    Everything flows in so nicely here. You saw 2 different raptors all at the same location! 4:01 is the best photo hands-down! And that's only because that Rough Legged Hawk was in a diving pose! The way its wings are bent just makes it look so beautiful!

    I've spent a lot of time with Rough-legged hawks, but never seen them hover like that. I suppose that's what they need to do when there aren't any trees to perch in while looking for prey. I'm happy to see a video that is more about the wildlife itself, and less about gear. That's a refreshing change!

      I haven't either. The first one I saw I didn't know what I was looking at! Then a couple more rose above that hill in the field and I knew I had to turn the engine off and start shooting. Thanks for the comment.

    Hi Ryan, great video and I really enjoyed it. I have a A7r4 and planning to buy the 200-600, however these days on many forums seeing people complaining specially of this combo that it has issues with BIF or with moving subject or some some focus related issues. Did you face any such issues till now. Thanks.

    • @RyanMenseWildlife
      @RyanMenseWildlife  Před 4 lety

      Sometimes, but not necessarily only for moving subjects. The subject can be perfectly still and there can still be unexplained blur. I've always had a hunch it's the image stabilization either over compensating or still moving the sensor at the time of exposure. Something to do with image stabilization for sure though. Switching the lens to Mode 2 seems to fix it which is why I think that. That effectively kills image stabilization for side to side movement, but from working with it I can still get down to 1/60s in Mode 2 handheld.

    Nice shots Ryan. My favourite is dead on 4 mins with the hawk looking straight into the camera.

    Ryan .
    How it's great you had a light morph next to a dark morph of a rough-legged that is a really good shot to get that was a really good one I don't know where you were doing your photography we're doing I presume probably right around Minnesota so let us know when you you're doing your videos I mean I know exactly where you're at but you can tell us ( fellow Bird photographers ) what state you're in .
    Ryan keep up that great work you do some beautiful work I'm also a bird photographer , my name is Gary .

    You should have brought your snorkel... you're just swimming in Roughies 😂 Great shots! Have you noticed any nest building going on? It should be happening soon for them.

    • @RyanMenseWildlife
      @RyanMenseWildlife  Před 4 lety

      My thought was that they are gathering in numbers as they start migrating north to breed. As far as I'm aware they don't stick around for the summer here.

    Love the video Ryan, thanks. Did you try driving close, but not too close, to the ones that were perched? That would get you closer flight shots when they left the perch. Love and share your enthusiasm for this kind of shooting. 👍👍👍

    • @RyanMenseWildlife
      @RyanMenseWildlife  Před 4 lety

      Thank you! After the filming portion of this I did drive up more but no luck with the closer shots. I typically see them fly away from even how I was situated for the video, so I feel lucky to even get that close. They must have been very focused on the hunting to take attention away from me.

      Ryan Mense - Thanks for your response. As you know, nervous birds are part of the fun and challenge of bird photography. My wife uses a car rail that goes on the door and it works well. We have A7R4 and 200-600. It is made by a guy at his house. If interested, I am happy to give you link to his CZcams video. It is perfect for shooting from car you were doing in your video.

    Hi Ryan. Have you tried the Sony 400mm f2.8 on the a7Riv?

    • @RyanMenseWildlife
      @RyanMenseWildlife  Před 4 lety

      I haven't, I've only used the 400mm 2.8 once on the a9 for an air show.

    • @janseneca7366
      @janseneca7366 Před 4 lety +1

      I have, like you..a7Riv and Sony 200-600mm👍
      I also have a9 and Sony 100-400mm GM and 1.4 extender.
      Often I am in the woods where there is not much light and ISO gets too high for a7Riv !!!

    Great video shooting from the car, presumably if you get out of the car they will scatter, as buzzards do here in the UK ?

    • @RyanMenseWildlife
      @RyanMenseWildlife  Před 4 lety +1

      Probably. They usually scatter just driving by them so I was fortunate in many ways this day. Yesterday I drove back to this same spot because the conditions were identical and the two roughies I saw wanted no part of me.

    Hey Ryan do you have problems with the autofocus locking because of the heavy lenz being hand held? My Sony A7R4 and A9 both lock up sometimes! Great Shots!!!

    • @RyanMenseWildlife
      @RyanMenseWildlife  Před 4 lety

      I haven't noticed that happening. Does it fix itself or do you have to detach and reattach the lens for the connection to work again?

    • @jefflong8449
      @jefflong8449 Před 4 lety

      Ryan Mense i wiggle or detach the lenz and fixes it. Smaller lenzes no problem. Sent the a9 in because it got worse,its in the connection because of the extra weight.
