  • The Trent-Severn Waterway section of America's Great Loop immediately caught our eye. We knew we had to take this section and experience some incredible history and one-of-a-kind destinations, and today it begins! It is an extra memorable cruise today with very high winds, but since it's protected we decide to give it a go!

    ABOUT US
    Hi! We are high school sweethearts from Atlanta, Georgia who decided to take a year off to travel around the world. Together we decided to create vlogs for our journey as a fun way to remember it. On September 15, 2019, we left Atlanta with 3 bags, 2 one-way tickets, and 1 goal of traveling for a whole year. Little did we know, 6 months later we would find ourselves in a nationwide lockdown in India. After spending 5 months in India, we came back to the United States and decided to purchase a 34’ Trawler, dive headfirst into boat life, and kick-off America’s Great Loop.
    The good, the bad, the ugly - and most importantly, the real and real funny. We’re not here to tell you “how it’s done.”, just how we’ve done it. And that whatever it is that’s calling you - the way you’ll do it is much more attainable than it may seem.
    Thank you for following us along our journey!

    I love your videos so thank you for that. You may have heard this before but just to be a little pedantic it is called the Trent-Severn Waterway as it is a combination of natural lakes, rivers, and man made canals or "cuts" - usually to accommodate the locks. Thanks again and sail safe, Joseph.

    That was fun to watch and brought back a ton of memories. We had a family cottage between just up river from Frankford and we just loved playing on the river. Frankford was a great town and we used to hang out there as teenagers at a spot with the best fries and a juke box. Your right about the house boats. One evening a bunch of drunk idiots were so far off course they ran into our dock! The house boats were banned for a very long time. Four generation of our family enjoyed the river before the cottage was finally sold. My nephew liked it so much he bought a home on the river in Frankford. Look forward to watching more of your videos. Safe travels!

    In the Rideau you can get a docking pass as well as the lock pass. It’s great if you can’t anchor out.

  • @gothatawaychrisandsandra

    Danielle was one of the Parks Canada staff who sneaked us through Lock #1 just before closing, after we ran aground just before the lock entrance. She (and the others) were so kind. We were feeling kind of dumb that day! She works at Locks 1-7 (did you run in to her again?) and at Lock 7 she let us turn the lock wheel. At the time we thought we were special (!!!) but realized as we kept moving that Parks Canada staff let all sorts do their work. ;) She's been working the locks on the TSW for 8 years and became certified to operate the swing bridges along that section. I know it is months later but nice to see your videos of Canada finally being created and uploaded. While we were a few weeks behind you, it is still neat to see everything through a non-Canadian set of eyes. And, great to see and speak to you in person in Fort Myers. Cheers.

    We are boaters, sort of. First boat of any size was an Albin 27 aft cabin. Next was an Albin 32+2. We had considered getting a 36-43' trawler & doing the loop but decided against it. We have been thoroughly spoiled living in Bermuda & overnighted most every weekend during the summer since 1982. Boating in water too cold to spend hours swimming in is inconceivable to us, So we bought a 5th wheel RV.
    We have followed along the Erie Canal, the Trent Severn Canal, & done The River Road along the Mississippi, staying as close to the water as possible. Still love boats. A dedicated single diesel skipper.
    Just wish that boats did better with mountains & long distances. Planning our 5th trip to Alaska this year. More than 250,000 miles travelled since 2007.

    Welcome to our summer playground, we boat out of south Lake Simcoe and use the Trent System a lot. don't mind docking with the wind pushing us on, a good push off the bow and a little rudder offset generally works to kick off the stern. Have now watched all your videos from Key West and having done the trip many times in the eighties things haven't changed a lot, lol.

    Trent-Severn Waterway is not refererred to as a "canal" because a high percentage of the route is "natural" navigation. • @SchoandJo
      @SchoandJo  Před 7 měsíci

      Great question! The short answer is that you can stay as long as you want! The long answer is that every spot will have different rules. In most of the US, you can stay at an anchorage indefinitely, we definitely saw some boats that didn't look like they moved in years! Marinas typically will charge a daily, weekly, and monthly rate so it just depends on their availability. Some people will own a slip! Hope this helps answer your question!
