- A couple of weeks ago I attended my #BritishArmy #AssessmentCentre.
The aim of this video is to provide an insight to those who are currently being processed through the system and are expecting to attend an assessment event in the future. or those considering enlistment.
Hopefully the tips and advice in this video help you achieve your goal of becoming a British soldier.

On the cognitive test, be aware of the orientation section.
The practise on the British army website for example goes like this “black above white - up left, up left”
Be prepared for questions like this at the assessment centre as well. For example,
“ white below black - down left, up right”
When I got these questions they really threw me off but I just guessed them and moved on.
Don’t be worried about getting a bad score if you know you’ve got some wrong.
I managed to get 56 and I fluffed the orientation section 🤣
If a question seems too hard just guess it and move on is my advice.
Yeah they threw me a little bit too. I didn't think it was fair to make us all do it at that time of night after travelling but luckily I also got a decent score.

Are you "Dylan" Handicapped / born thick or did you grow in to it? "Don’t be worried about getting a bad score if you know you’ve got some wrong". It's an assessment. A raw talent assessment. You should be ashamed! If you're regulars then god help your Plt Sgt / Plt Cmdr. The About Average Jake Class video but the originators of comments are mince fucks. Not your fault

Showers will be available if your assessment involves an overnight stay. If you're there for just the day then I doubt you'll get time to use them.
At Lichfield they were open communal showers, so I'd recommend taking some flip flops.

Have you been given a basic date yet pal, and I've got my selection/assessment centre 18th of this month so thank you for making these videos they are helping a lot.
No worries mate, I'm glad they're helping. I've not got a date yet for basic training but it should be around spring time, so it's still a long wait for me.
Best of luck for your assessment event. Remember to practice the cognitive test beforehand at least twice a week and try practice a beep test so you know what level you're at before the assessment.
@@aboutaveragejake my fitness is really good mate, I'm 19 so my fitness is very good I can get 12+ on bleep test and 7min 2k run
Also did you do the dummy grenade throw because that's one of the tests they normally do for selection but I haven't heard anything about it so don't know
We didn't do anything like that. It's still currently a basic selection event due to Covid, concentrating on medical and fitness stuff. I'd imagine you'll get chance to do that at phase 1 too.
Just wondering how old you are mate? Im 31 and just a bit worried I may be to old for the reserves
I'm 36. But I was 33 when I initially applied. The max age for an application to be considered is 35 years and 6 months and that's for the regular army too, so you've got plenty of time.
I’m really worried for my maths test I’m really stupid 😂
Practice is key. Make sure you're prepared beforehand and you'll be fine.
The TST is also multiple choice. Corbett Maths or BBC Bitesize are great resources for revision.
@@aboutaveragejake I had my assessment yesterday and passed the math was too easy and repeated the same question 3 times it’s like primary school maths 🤣
Any Tips on the Literacy and Numeracy Test or Website for revision
BBC bitesize is always a good starting point. You'll be able to revise both subjects.
I never actually took the literacy or numeracy test as I had my GCSE certificates with me. I did need to do the TST however because that was required for my role.
As far as I know the difficultly level is on par with functional skills level 1, so that's something you might want to look into.

Hello mate, I was deferred because of SCT blood test now everything is cleared and I am good to go for RFTE on 16th Dec at Grantham. Could you please tell me what was your procedure after deferring when you went for RFTE? Do they medical again like hearing test, eyes test, all that producer? Thanks
Hi buddy.
So long as you've already passed the medical then you won't need to do it again. When you attend the RFTE all you'll be required to complete are the fitness tests. For me it took around 40 minutes so you won't be there to long.

The information you're after can be found on the army website. I think at the moment there are are large number of commonwealth applications so they aren't taking on anymore currently, but it's always best to check the official sources and don't just take my word for it.
Assuming your application is all ok, the length of time can vary from candidate to candidate. It's usually a few months, but it's taken me 2 years to get this far as I had to return to college and pass my Maths and English exams. Your chosen trade can also affect a potential start date for phase 1, so that's something to bear in mind.
As far as I know under "normal" conditions (i.e no Covid -19), the army recruit all year round.

Times have changed. In the 80s you got on the bus and told if you spoke you would get your fucking back broken.if you couldn't do the mile in under 7 mins you was finished. If you couldn't complete the apfa you was finished. No arguing.in basic training they didn't get annoyed you was battered.

What is the interview all about mate??
No different to a normal job interview. It's an important part of the process. Make sure you research your chosen trade and cap badge beforehand as they might ask a few questions and test your knowledge.
Also look up the army values and standards and memorise them as you will be expected to know them.
Once you get it in, all of this is irrelevant anyway 😂
