Just got back from driving through the Grapevine/Gorman. I can see the fire was carried by strong winds up there. So strong, my car would jolt if I went over 80mph while driving the 5 up there. The fires are still going and it’s Smokey in a secured area that you can see behind some hills. There are also small spots of fire that you can see from the Highway but both lanes on the 5 are open. It’s not near LA. In LA County, but not near LA.

Just as O'biden is replacing legal citizens with illegals, they are killing us off to accomplish the ends they want. Calfire conducts frequent controlled burns on state owned land. If this is national forest land that is the responsibility of the federal government NOT California's.
Oh and guess what many factors contribute to fires getting out of control quickly. A wet winter can lead to a lot of grass and underbrush growth and followed by a dry spring leads to thousands of acres of dry grasses in one season that controlled burns can't keep with.
Fires have always happened anyway so your general comment demonstrates little understanding of the reality of wild land fires!!

The 5 freeway is the major thoroughfare connecting Southern, Central & Northern CA. I lived in the Angeles Crest Forest, 10 miles N/E of Castaic. Nearest neighbor 1/2 mile away, general civilization 20 minutes to a main road. Plenty of fires are started from the thousands of cars & trucks that spark the grasses bordering the 5. Not to mention tossed cigs, landscaping equipment, campers, ATVs - the list goes on. That some people on here are laughing at the possible demise of people & innocent wildlife is astonishing. Gratitude to all the first responders - may you & yours be safe.

The winds screaming through there are notorious. I can vouch for all the rapid growth of greenery because of heavy rains the last 2 winters. Then come the winds/arid climes/high temps = perfect grounds for fires. A reflection off of a glass bottle can cause dry grass to burn. Survived a barn fire 30 yrs ago because of that tossed bottle.

I live about 2 hours from LA and it was pretty windy yesterday and still windy today actually compared to how it's been, (pretty calm and nice hot summer weather) when I woke up this morning I smelt smoke immediately and the sky looks hazy, and I don't know if it's the same in LA but in the high desert where I live the wind can pick up and get pretty crazy out of nowhere. What also sucks for people not directly affected by the fires but even in places like ours 2 hours away the smoke smell gets so strong it makes me feel nauseous, and lots of houses out here rely on swamp coolers so that smell just gets pumped into our homes 😢 I hope everyone affected by the fires will be ok 🙏🏽
