  • This year for Thanksgiving the family was at the house, including my sister, and she needed to do some maintenance on her car before going back home. My dad and I put on our work clothes and spent Thanksgiving day working on her car. My focus was on replacing the passenger door window regulator. The regulator had broken some time prior and the window had to be kept closed out of an abundance of caution, that once opened, it wouldn't be able to close again. This particular issue is apparently fairly common due to a design issue with the regulator and is not the first time my sister has had to replace a broken window regulator. It was pretty easy to replace with the only special tool required being a pop rivet gun. You can substitute out pop rivets for metal screws if you do not own a pop rivet gun.

Hell yeah thanks bro. My car experienced the same problem with one of the brackets holding the window breaking. The regulator you ordered comes with new ones?

It might depend on your car model, but this one came with the brackets

Probably a dumb question but I get confused, cause I'm not a car guy. When they say requlator, you get a new motor, well technically it's just your paying for the motor?
Also, has your sister get issues with the windows often? Cause it's about ever year now where one of them goes bad, been like $500 repair every time.

The regulator is referring to the entire assembly, on the regulator is a small electric motor that lowers and raises the window. The motor if I remember correctly was fine, but parts of the regulator broke and since you can't buy them separately you are forced to replace the entire regulator as one unit. I she has already had to replace the driver side window regulator. Apparently this part suffers from a design flaw that makes it prone to failure. I don't believe she has had issues with the back seat doors yet and I'm not sure if they use the same design and part since its not my car.

I paid a garage to do this and it broke again 2 years later( no abuse). Plastic sucks.

Yeah I'm glad this is not my car, this will clearly be an issue in the future. Major design flaw in my opinion. To much crappy plastic used in modern vehicles.
