Charli XCX Performs “So I” | Billboard Women In Music 2024
Billboard
/ billboard - Hudba
The fact that she chose to premiere this song at Billboard Women in Music instead of her own single is very telling. We will never forget you SOPHIE.
This is her own single though?
@@atmike I think they mean the single she just put out that she could've easily performed here to promo it. This isn't going to be a single and is probably not coming out till later this year.
It makes the song more powerful, I’ve lost best friends so it’s like very relatable
Why you call her "SHOPIE" ?
@@thisismee. this song is about the musical artist and producer Sophie
the interpolations with "its okay to cry", the raw lyrics and delivery... fucking gorgeous. we love you charli! SOPHIE forever ♥
im glad im not the only one who noticed the similar structure, and even including it as a lyric.
I’m so proud of charli te amo
Everything is resembling that song, most vulnerable and personal project of hers 🫂🫶🏻
It also interpolates Lightning (not the one on Crash) an unreleased song she made with Sophie.
she even said "I know you always said 'its okay to cry'" 😭😭
charli singing a song dedicated to a trans woman at an event honoring women is so important, especially considering how often trans women are left out of celebrations like these. love you charli and long live SOPHIE
👏👏👏👏👏
my exact thoughts
Uhh, That troon Dylan was heavily celebrated and there's mostly troons on shows and films?
You can truly tell how close of friends they were and how much Charli is still feeling that pain of losing SOPHIE
was SOPHIE being trans the most important aspect of her artistry? feels like your comment, even good intended, does quite the opposite in my opinion
SOPHIE changed electronic and pop music forever…and this is such a perfect tribute to her. truly special.
Who shopie?
@@thisismee. look it up, her full name is Sophie Xeon
Google is free @@thisismee.
@@thisismee. SOPHIE was a music producer who was known for her contributions to PC music and hyper pop in general. She was the one who produced Charli xcx vroom vroom EP
U mean bjork changed electronic music.
Seeing charli so vulnerable and seeing how she made the decision to perform this instead of the new single just proves she’s always challenging herself.
I love the way Charli uses auto-tune. It's used in a way that compliments the imperfections and emotional tension in her voice. It's really cool how it's become such a signature part of her sound. Also impressive that she's able to make it sound so good live. Contrary to what people may think, you really need to have a lot of pitch control to be able to utilize auto-tune this way.
i agree! she's very intentional about the ways she uses it, and it always pays off. i love her raw vocals too, but the added textures from autotune suit her voice soooo well.
It's so dually symbolic, too, because SOPHIE's signature vocal style included heavy uses of autotune. It feels so intentional, especially with the incorporation of It's Okay to Cry. And it is! Because I am!
Well said and so true - a lot of pitch control and ~breath~ control. Charli's flow is legendary
I love how she describes the complex feelings brought with loss. That it isn’t all black and white, and that she even regrets the way she treated Sophie? Very vulnerable stuff! ❤️🩹
Yes, very human like, not faking, everyone has been very critique about how she’s graving her
wait what happened between her and Sophie?
@@emomu just listen to the lyrics. it's not any drama, just human feelings and second thoughts after someone close has passed
This isn’t a song, it’s a love letter 🥺💜
It’s a love-goodbye letter 😢 it’s Charlie’s graving/hymn to her 🥲 🫶🏻
@@Aujovlogsbratz30 😢
It still feels like yesterday when she died. she was going to be the new face of electronic music
yeah. So tragic
Sophie changed pop music forever 🖤🔓
I remember during Covid breaking the rules the day Sophie died, me and this guy just connected recently over music, so we put the roof down, drove to this beach across the county lines and blasting all of the bangers, and there it was, this giant moon looking over the beach and I will NEVER forget that. literally was able to make a friend through Sophie like many of us have, and it’s wonderful how music is still going to continue to connect us. Don’t let go! And it’s okay to cry ❤️
I love how music can connect people especially SOPHIES unique and innovative music
This is the legacy Sophie wanted I think Loved reading your story ♥
i love when people on youtube just make up shit to be able to comment lmao
@@skarsgard1342 oh my god thank you, I finally realised I’m living a life better than someone that it makes them think it’s fake! The funny thing is mate, I know it’s true because it’s my experience, literally just going to a beach listening to music and smoking away watching the stars, it’s nothing special for people
Where I live because we are surrounded by beaches and oceans I’m sorry you haven’t been able to do things like that and I hope you do! Go and make memories!
@@skarsgard1342 also, I just checked your last comment replies on these videos, dude, just let people live their lives and I hope you get happier and healthier, this comment section is mainly for fans to get together to remember Sophie and hear Charli’s song so just take your negativity to your next therapy appointment than taking it out on random people on the internet, I don’t need this negativity haha
I’ve never seen Charli so nervous before a performance but I hope she knows Sophie would be so proud of her 🙏 Thank you for honouring this pioneer of pop!
It’s okay to cry
-SOPHIE
This was a moving performance about someone who meant so much to so many of us. I wouldn't be happy in the way I am today without SOPHIE's music. She had a beautiful heart and Charli you did a great job performing this.
so(ph)i(e) ❤
😭❤🩹
Phe 💔
WAIT
fuck i was not emotionally prepared for this. had me crying 30 seconds into the song and i cannot imagine the strength it took for her not to... i've seen plenty of her performances and have heard nearly all her songs, but not a single time did i see her so vulnerable and nervous to do it right, my love and respect for her still grows stronger every day
3:17 they way you can almost hear SOPHIE's distorted singing voice here at the outro ... kinda like a duet 😢❤ what a beautiful song
Wasn’t expecting a song like this on her new album! Some of my favorite Charli songs are her Ballads (Enemy, constant repeat, official, backseat)
Mine too 🕊️ official is my most listened-to song of hers. So many years on repeat.
Official is low-key one of the best love songs EVER
It is clear that for Charlie Sophie was not just a producer, but a very close friend.
The lines about Christmas kill. Thank you, XCX, you are brilliant! RIP SOPHIE.
i'm so in love with this versatility that charli's showing
This performance is incredible and has me so emotional. I miss Sophie so much, knowing she’ll never be forgotten brings me comfort. Charli XCX choosing to perform this at this event is beautiful and reminds us “It’s okay to cry” 🕊️🤍
I've never seen Charli so vulnerable before. This touched my heart. Fast cars and parties are fun asfuck but this side of her is precious, I wish we could see it more ❤
I'm crying
Same🫶🏾🫂
Me too
yeah we both know you aren't but go off
@@skarsgard1342 i for one can say this got me good, partly cuz this caught me on an emotional day to begin with. people react differently to things like this, don't be weird.
@@skarsgard1342 someone needs a hug.
WHAT I DIDN'T EXPECT THEM TO UPLOAD IT OMG 😢❤️💔
the "youre a hero" line got me choked up );;;
I love how she's referencing SOPHIE in every single way possible, the way she incorporated that melody from 'It's okay to cry' into this song is just so beautiful
SOPHIE lives on through so many artists she touched while she was still with us. PC Music isn't just a label. Its a philosophy and community. SOPHIE changed how I see pop music and enriched my understand of trans women. She will always permeate experimental pop and electronic music in the queer community.
This!
The way I cried during this performance thinking of people I've also lost.
After listening to this ive acquired a deeper understanding into their dynamic. Why is it that we pull away from the people that mean the most to us? Don’t search me in here. im already gone baby.
When she began to speak about this song I immediately knew it was about Sophie, when she started to sing and said it’s okay to cry I knew that was a affirmation, from my seat she looked incredible, like an angel, this video does not do it justice
wow, gorgeous tribute. sophie lives on.
This is really beautiful and the fact she did it at Women in Music, what a beautiful soul
So powerful hyperballad💜
Sophie, please rest in electronic peace🙏
Damn Charli 😭😭😭😭got me crying. This was beautiful. Rip SOPHIE🩷✨💖 we’ll still be singing the songs you left behind.
Such an unbelievably touching tribute to her... the tears came quick for me. It took quite a bit of courage to debut this song of all songs, that night. Great song too, ofc. It's really sweet how it references and samples It's Okay to Cry. The sentiment of the song hit in more ways than one, given that I've been mourning a friend of mine that passed a few years ago too.
R.I.P. SOPHIE. One of modern music's most inventive minds.
SOPHIE is missed everyday. 💜💜 rest in paradise beautiful SOPHIE XEON
This is beautiful and powerful. Love how Charli shows how much love and admiration she has for SOPHIE, i love her
we need the "I believe" meets "So I"
Look over the edge but not too far.
Charli…… every time I hear this I wanna cry. You really put your emotions in this. I can tell Sophie meant so much to you. You two are the hyper pop queens and an duo unmatched ❤
this performance made me tear a lil bit, we all miss sophie and im glad that through charli's music, her being inspired so many times by an artist we'll forever remember her. rest in power, sophie.
Man, this song hits so hard. Sophie was such a revolutionary artist, and I couldn't imagine music without her impact. The lyrics 'would you like this one? (Maybe just a little bit)' hit like a knife to the heart
she ate this, so I cryyyyy
SOPHIE would’ve loved this. sobbing
I had the huge privilege of seeing Charli live a few years ago, on Sophie’s birthday 😞 it was very bittersweet hearing a dedication to her. These lyrics are beautiful
She is definitely 1 of the top 10 talented musicians in the 21st century. She not just sings, But also writes her songs and has wrote so many bangers for others artist. Just remarkable!
Rest in power SOPHIE
I haven't cried in ages because since I started transitioning I've felt I had to be extra strong and not let anything get to me. This song put me back in my feelings, I miss Sophie all the time and this is such a powerful confession from Charli it totally swept me up
So glad we get an official video of this … so touching! Such an amazing tribute to Sophie! RIP
future music charli xcx forever.
This song reminds me of my grandpa who passed away recently. Thank you Charli for your vulnerability. ❤️
rip sophie
I really feel like a small part of Sophie’s legacy lives on with Charli’s music and she is always very vocal about her. She will keep her in the conversation.
I'm in absolute tears over this song, this performance, the powerful memory of SOPHIE that this evokes. Thank you, Charli!
SOPHIE changed music forever. not only music in a generic way, but how we can express ourselves through sound, always testing and pushing the boundaries of it. her legacy stays forever ❤
we miss you SOPHIE
SOPHIE is smiling down from heaven right now, I hope the water isn't cold
😢 Beautiful! One of the most powerful hyper pop ballads I’ve ever heard. Sophie would love this. Xo
Beautiful performance, we love you Charli ❤
I definitely cried the ugly cry to this performance. I miss you each and every day, SOPHIE 💜
@ her label can y’all do a rush release & let her release it as a single ASAP!!!! I think it’s better than Von Dutch & it’s probably one of her most important songs written to date!!!
Von Dutch is 🤌
It’s not they made the right decision with the single.
I love this girl...❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤hope all her dreams come true
Sophie will always be in our heart. 🤍
This gave me chills, Charli
Literally crying watching this performance, SOPHIE is deeply loved and missed…. I love seeing Charli keeping her memory alive to this day 😭😭😭💕💕💕
Damn this is beautiful, and the song title being close to Sophie’s name. Such a powerful track and I hope it gets released asap as a pre order or something
sophie forever 🤍
😭🤍 gracias charli por hacerme llorar a las 7 am
So powerful, she’s looking over you Charli
I really hope she releases this!
Electronic producers like myself owe so much to Charli and even more so to Sophie. We stand on the shoulders of giants like Sophie and Wendy Carlos. ❤
Masterpiece. I have had this live performance on repeat all month now
can't stop watching this. makes me cry every time 😭
Beautiful yet heartbreaking song, moved me to tears. 😢❤
I’m crying. This is so beautiful
immediately burst in tears. this is so beautiful. she is a master at her craft. I hope this song and performance helps her process her grief. i love you, charli.
I am crying so so much right now 🕊️ so much.
SOPHIE would be so proud of you, we love you 🫶
She told us that it's okay to cry...and so I cried. Rest in peace SOPHIE. Hope one day we get to the stars where you are
Say what you want about production and "tricks" in live music, but this performance is a great mix of what you'd expect from Charli and a little realism to deliver the right emotions.
Very rarely does a piece of music get me so emotional that I shed a tear but I shed a few for Sophie after this one. She will be forever missed 😭🖤
This just broke me
Te amo con todo mi corazón CHARLI XCX 😭
The way she could’ve used this opportunity to promote von Dutch but instead she used it to honour Sophie is actually beautiful and it really shows how she really is a a person and not an artist
this song is so beautiful and such an amazing showcase of the impact Sophie had on the music industry and all of our lives charli continues to out do herself and i cant wait for brat❤
So beautiful 🥺💔
Not bestie making me cry
amazing charli…❤love you
That little thank you at the end was heartbreaking.
SO BEAUTIFUL ❤️❤️❤️ RIP Sophie ❤️❤️❤️
Why has this performance not gone viral?! It's soooo beautiful!!
Gosh this made me emotional! SOPHIE was so important to the world and me. Such a sad loss but will never be forgotten. Love you Charli ❤
It's so sad, she loves her friend so much God knows the best may your soul rest in peace sophie.
So beautiful ❤ Sophie would be so proud
Beautiful performance 🕊️
We are so lucky to have such an beautiful muse as this great woman. she gets better and better and until she is crowned world champion of whatever she wants she will be underrated.
Every time I listen to this I cry like the first time I heard it. This song hits so deep.
Please I’m gonna start crying
Sophie was a true pioneer of sound itself. I love that she did this for her ❤
the most beautiful and heart warming thing in a while. TEARS. she looking and feeling this and is so proud Charliiiiiii
