Michael Bartley-Saena as an English fan I’d bank on Scotland to trounce Argentina in the semi final which would’ve given them loads of confidence going into the final. As much as I love beating the jocks, on their day they can take the fight to anyone.

Mark Bennet really read that one well .. RESPECT. The last scrum in time started on 0.00 mins. Therefore the scots should have asked the ref for time. Aus dropped the scrum, the commentator said 3 and half mins to go. Hogg gets a clatter, but Aus player committed, Kicked out. Official TV clock is still stopped. ALWAYS ASK THE REF!!

Such a great match. I'm new to rugby and not a fan of any team, but that was a heartbreaking finish!! The determination from the Scotland side to fight and stay in the match, and then to take the lead late, and then to lose on a penalty right at the end.... Rough!!!!!

Isn’t this the game where the ref in the final minutes basically handed the win to Australia via a penalty kick for a knock on instead of rightfully awarding Australia a scrum only?

It was because the Scottish forward who caught the ball after the knock on was off-side, a full penalty for being off-side, rather than a scrum for the knock on
A bit harsh, the ref could’ve said accidental offside, but because the Scottish player actually made an attempt to catch the ball, he deemed it to be not accidental

Fun fact: My cousin Shannon worked with the Australia team during this tournament. She also worked with the eventual winners New Zealand.

@@Digger-tw6hq I mean both Joubert and World Rugby released statements afterwards stating the final penalty was given wrongly, and he ran off the pitch, hardly sportsmanlike.

Had Scotland won they would of likely got smashed by Argentina in the semi finals. If Foley wasn't having a bad game with his kicking the Australians would of easily won this match against Scotland.

If the goal kicking by Australian goal kicker was as good as the Scottish goal kicker, Australia should not have won by 1 point but more points.

yeah i agree, as a wallabies fan, it's clear that scotland got a poor rub of the green, but whilst Scotland got screwed by penalties, if Foley hits his conversions, Aus are up by twelve early in the second and its a whole different ball game, It's all a matter of what ifs in the end

If the Wallabies could find a kicker of the calibre of a Laidlaw they would win many more games and challenge the All Blacks and the Springboks for supremacy. It is so obvious I am surprised they haven't realised it.

I think the reason for the penalty was his second attempt at catching it. As a wallaby fan, it should have been a scrum, not trying to say otherwise, but i think it was the second attempt mixed with the wallaby players calling it and pure adrenaline that has him call it. Should have been a scrum, but i guess i can sort of see why it maybe could have been a penalty
If I was Australian I would have been ashamed to go to the final after this stolen victory.
I love the Rugby World Cup, but it's the kind of game that can put you off, especially after Craig Joubert's other "performance" against France in the 2011 final. And I don't understand why the match lasted so long after the end of regulation time.
Still don't understand why Laidlaw didn't pester the referee more to refer the decision to the TMO (he's the captain after all, he's free to talk to the ref). I think, according to the rules, a decision like that couldn't be referred but Laidlaw obviously didn't know that (hence the interview). I do think, though, that it was the right decision and Australia were the better team. They scored 5 tries and two of Scotland's were gifts.

Anyone who thinks ref won this game for Australia don’t know rugby. Joubert missed about 7 kickable penalties for the wallabies, Scotland are such cry babies they even outdo the English. The referee was Scotland’s best player. 🤦🏻♂️

No way they would of played any better than Australia and had Scotland won they would of likely lost to Argentina anyway that did challenged the All Blacks very well in the pool game. If it wasn't for Foleys bad kicking the Aussies would of won by a lot. 5 tries to the Aussies and 3 tries to Scotland which probably would of only been just one try to Scotland with Foleys kick getting charged down which gifted them a try then a intercept try near the death likely due to pressure. It was Foley keeping Scotland in the game but if he wasn't having a bad game against Scotland the Aussies would of easily smashed them.

However you slice it the better team won. They scored more tries. Laidlaw kept Scotland in the game as he always does. It was a good game and both teams played their hearts out. Nevertheless the score reflects reality.
@@davidmcmanus6141 That happens all the time and is usually used as an excuse for losing. The fact remains that the Wallabies were a better team. If they could find a reliable goal kicker, like Laidlaw, they would rival the All Blacks for the world title. Laidlaw kept Scotland in the game as he always does.
