It's perfectly clear why he relinquished his LHW belt. He's not injured. What happened was, he heard through the grapevine that Chael was thinking of making a comeback and wanted to do so at LHW. That scared the absolute bejesus out of Hill and now here we sit, with a vacant belt. Smart man he is that's for sure. How can you beat a guy that's never lost a round?

I don't understand why people think Jiri is the best LHW he barely beat Glover, keeps his hands down as part of his offensive strategy to generate power, someone like Hill who throws straight punches and has sound defense, will destroy him. I would be interested to see the line from Vegas if they fight. I do favor Jiri against everyone else in the field but I don't get what Hill has to do for people to consider him the best at LHW. He only lost to Paul Craig and if they run that back he probably wins 7-8 out of 10? I think its 1. Hill 2. Jiri 3. Ankalaev

The two most powerful men in Combat Sports today are #1 Dana White and #2 Chael Sonnen. There is not a person on earth who contextualizes the sport better. Before watching this video I was not a Jamahal Hill fan. Not a hater or detractor just very neutral and for no good reason. After watching this video I am a fan of him as a person and im sure once he heals up, as a fighter. Rest up Champ, way to handle this with class.

Honestly Chael I think the reason why is because respect and respect alone. Someone did this for him in a way. Like jiri didn't need to give up the belt and neither did hill but they have respect for the division in the fact that say he's out for 9 months with this injury and he is training to come back and something else happens and he has to be out for another 5 or 6 months that a total of like 15month plus the 6 he has already not fought so like almost 2 years without a light weight belt is crazy honestly. Like you don't know how the future is going to be with an acl injury.(I've had 2 playing college soccer). So I feel like he is a good guy and this is how he is thinking. Which I like honestly.
And part of the reason I think he hasn't fought I 6 or so months now is because he wanted to rest for a few months and then he heard jiri could come back soon so he was waiting for that to happen and that is how we got to this now. I think we would have saw that fight around November or December(going on the stuff we have heard jiri saying)
They definitely stripped Hill. He even said it in his video “if it was up to me I would’ve held on to the belt”. Let’s not rewrite history

Would think the UFC paid / incentivized Jamahal to step aside once he got injured. If they make Jan vs Alex for the vacant LHW belt and Periera wins, it opens up the possibility of Alex vs Izzy for the 205 LHW strap.

You should probably ask someone at the UFC. My guess is that the UFC have started telling champs they must defend. If they relinquish, maybe they are promised a title fight when they are ready. Seems sensible. No logjams created by inactive champs.
With this 205 can become one of the most interesting divs right now. Make Pereira vs Jan for the belt, winner faces Ankalaev, winner faces Jiri and that should be enough time for the winner to take on Jamal. They have it on a silver platter right now

Chael can I point something out for you.. both guys got hurt in Las Vegas. Both guys were most likely (I have no idea) diagnosed by UFC doctors. The UFC is obviously forcing them into vacating the title.
It’s like when a coach in sport gets fired. Sometimes they give them the option to resign to save the embarrassment of being fired. That’s what happened here. The UFC tells them you relinquish or we strip.

What does he have against Jiri, that he doesn't have against Hill, to make him keep saying the UFC stripped him, when we all know that's not what happened and watched the events unfold in real-time?..... First of all, Jiri relinquished the belt he wasn’t stripped. Second of all , GSP gave up the belt due to he juiced his way up to 185 lbs and new that he couldn’t keep the size while being in the USADA testing pool.
