Do you like these Faibanks Morse Engines ?
LOVE THEM! I really love all antique oilfield engines.
Cool sound indeed.
Definitely 😁
Quit stealing our videos
Yes
That's my son starting the grey three cylinder at the WNY gas and steam engine show,he been with me running that engine since a baby
I could listen to these for hours. Amazing survivability.
I LOVE FAIRBANKS MORSE ENGINES!
Me too
The whistle at the end was the best!
Reminds me of threshing show time cool stuff, built to last forever with a little maintenance here and there. Thanks....
Hey I love the last clip with the whistle that made me chuckle 😀
Good afternoon to all from SE Louisiana 29 Jan 22.
would also like to own something the sound is so great... from Germany
Yooooo!!! I'm smiling so much that its feel weird 😃
Love Fairbanks Morse
lovely sounds!
How nice
Thanks for showing my engine at the 3:14 mark I truly love these Y engines.
Great engines, with sound like music
Very big vs old machine
, beautiful engines
What a sweet sound of music 🎶 to my ears 👂 cheers 🍻
The Engine at 2:26 Makes me Laugh 😁 Because the Flywheel is Just Perfect Always Noticed that detail in these Engines 😚😏😁
Great stuff there, thanks for sharing!
Big three cylinder would sound really good under a load.
Thanks very interesting
I especially like the FM opposed piston engines developed for use in submarines and railroad locomotives. The idea of two crankshafts, on top and bottom, driven by two pistons in each cylinder being pushed away from each other and the whole engine turning an alternator to generate electricity to drive the boat or the locomotive is fascinating.
I am convinced that these old engines have a living soul. They sound so being alive!
thank you!
It would be really nice if the captions were larger
I like the oilfield engine's
Eran motores para larga, larga duración. 💪
Technology
But still i can see what you mean since these motors basically live forever
A big ol FM could power my neighborhood, I wonder how that would pan out on fuel costs
Single stroke roll on snare drum.
It's nice to see them running one again but they were built to do work. You need to pump water or generate electricity with them.
Now imagine if you could attach one of those to a big sturdy-looking wagon, along with a few seats. And then attach a steering mechanism to the wagon, to allow it be steered from one of the seats. And then attach the engines main shaft to at least 2 of the wheels via some kind of a belt, or chain. And then maybe, perhaps if given some time and use practice, the engine itself could be more refined, to perhaps work faster and have more than one piston, for additional power.
all day long!
the world will end before these engines give up
I would really like to see a video of any one of these engines after the flywheels would be taken off and see if they still run 😊 ! ?????
The minimum speed an engine like this can run is determined by the force required to force it over Top Dead Center divided by the "K" value of its rotating parts. I am an old engineer and I would be very surprised if the rpm a flywheel-less Fairbanks Morse 2-Stroke Diesel would have to be motored to to carry it over TDC would be within the speed range it is physically capable of staying in one piece.
Short answer is "My guess is no and you would break it's connecting rods if you tried."
Exploded unt cathc firés
There is a big stationary engine near me. It was used at a cotton gin. These seem to need no cooling system.
I would live to have one of those old engines not a huge one. Where can I find one and what I can I expect to pay for one
Check into collectors clubs and watch auction and estate sales listings. Some may be found by retiring farmers who collected over the years or saved them.
Thank you I will do that
En que se ocupaban estos motores
Qual o combustível usado nesses motores
We had a 6 cylinder donated to our Heavy Diesel Repair class in vocational school, when I was in high school. It had a 12" bore, but we never got to try and get it running, because we needed a concrete pad about 2' thick to bolt it to. That never happened. Don't know what happened to the engine after I left. The morons of the school board closed the vocational school and sold the land for apartments....
Agreed on morons! Way too many think need a 4 year or more degree that for many is worthless as does not teach practical skills.
0:23 must have big holes in the roof, correct?
These type of engine's how fuel efficient where they
They don't make them to last any more it's a damn shame.
I hear the engines FM is making now are great.
Yeah but now days if they last like they did, then you only make money on it when someone purchases an engine. Which if your a big corporation like them I guess you can do whatever you want. Not to mention you could still sell the parts. It just doesn't make sense with today's way of running things, if you don't engineer things to only last a shorter amount of time, then you can't make any more money off the platform.
I'm just surprised no-one put a supercharger or turbosupercharger on one of them. Surely the compression is so low it'd be almost a perfect engine for it.
You're not getting the speed out of it to make any significant boost with a turbo, and it will take more torque/hp to spin a supercharger than what the engines put out. That single cylinder engine on the trailer probably only does 35hp
Where are you from guys ? :)

I know where there is a three cylinder Fairbanks Morse like the second one in this video.
Those aren't big.
