      Аха, а у нас, был сбор металлолома и мукулатуры, которые пропылесосили территорию, а потом и заводы в дело пошли. В музеях, какие то, не внятные, куски остались. В Тагиле, например, на улице, что то ржавеет.

    I especially like the FM opposed piston engines developed for use in submarines and railroad locomotives. The idea of two crankshafts, on top and bottom, driven by two pistons in each cylinder being pushed away from each other and the whole engine turning an alternator to generate electricity to drive the boat or the locomotive is fascinating.

    It's nice to see them running one again but they were built to do work. You need to pump water or generate electricity with them.

    Now imagine if you could attach one of those to a big sturdy-looking wagon, along with a few seats. And then attach a steering mechanism to the wagon, to allow it be steered from one of the seats. And then attach the engines main shaft to at least 2 of the wheels via some kind of a belt, or chain. And then maybe, perhaps if given some time and use practice, the engine itself could be more refined, to perhaps work faster and have more than one piston, for additional power.

      The minimum speed an engine like this can run is determined by the force required to force it over Top Dead Center divided by the "K" value of its rotating parts. I am an old engineer and I would be very surprised if the rpm a flywheel-less Fairbanks Morse 2-Stroke Diesel would have to be motored to to carry it over TDC would be within the speed range it is physically capable of staying in one piece.
      Short answer is "My guess is no and you would break it's connecting rods if you tried."

    We had a 6 cylinder donated to our Heavy Diesel Repair class in vocational school, when I was in high school. It had a 12" bore, but we never got to try and get it running, because we needed a concrete pad about 2' thick to bolt it to. That never happened. Don't know what happened to the engine after I left. The morons of the school board closed the vocational school and sold the land for apartments....

    • @strangehappenings8961
      @strangehappenings8961 Před 2 lety +1

      Yeah but now days if they last like they did, then you only make money on it when someone purchases an engine. Which if your a big corporation like them I guess you can do whatever you want. Not to mention you could still sell the parts. It just doesn't make sense with today's way of running things, if you don't engineer things to only last a shorter amount of time, then you can't make any more money off the platform.

  • @rosiehawtrey
    @rosiehawtrey Před 2 lety

    I'm just surprised no-one put a supercharger or turbosupercharger on one of them. Surely the compression is so low it'd be almost a perfect engine for it.

    • @mfranzusan3014
      @mfranzusan3014 Před 2 lety +1

      You're not getting the speed out of it to make any significant boost with a turbo, and it will take more torque/hp to spin a supercharger than what the engines put out. That single cylinder engine on the trailer probably only does 35hp
