  • The most frequent question that Dr. Russ receives is - “What brand and where did you get your scope?” The answer has changed each year as he has found better scopes at better prices. He may have finally found the best scope, red dot, and laser source in CV Life … as well as a special discount for just his viewers. You be the judge as you watch Dr. Russ mount and add his competitive wisdom to his Gamo Swarm 10X Bone Collector. #gamo #gamoswarm #gamobonecollector

    The earth is approx. 25,000 miles in circumference at the equator. A day is 24 hrs in time. So the earth surface at the equator is moving toward the east at close to 1,000 mph.
    At each pole, the earth surface is moving near 0 mph because each pole is right at the earth rotational axis.
    So the earth surface speed can be calculated at any point of latitude between those two.
    The trade winds on the earth are effected by the earth rotation.

      Good info that most people have no clue about. Our military snipers (or any serious LONG range marksman) must take into consideration the rotation of the earth as it will affect shot placement (maybe not so much for air rifle plinking though...😁), but still very good knowledge to have. Thanks for bringing that up.

    Awesome video Dr Russ, I always enjoy watching your videos, I been shooting airguns since I was a kid, I started out with a Benjamin pump gun, then evolved after where that gun plumb out to a Sheridan pump gun silver streak. Shot that for a lot of years, then I went to my first break barrel, the Beeman C1 carbine 177. I used that for quite some time, than I kinda got out of airguns for a few years. I was drag racing alot, that’s my other passion. Than about 10 years ago I bought my first pcp, now I own around 18 of them, mostly high end PCP’s FX’s I have a couple brococks and a couple daystate s but I also have a air Venturi avenger. Love that gun, very accurate. Anyway that’s a little back history. I also have a lot of powder guns, I still love my powder guns, I load all of my own ammo.

    Great info, thanks for sharing. By the way, there is a much faster and more "economic" way to sight in your scope, you only need a stand and 1 pellet. Put your rifle in the stand, aim at the bulls eye and shoot. While keeping your rifle in the fixed position and crosshair still on target, you now use the turrets on your scope to move the crosshairs over the impact hole of your pellet and you're done. Your scope is sighted in and you saved some pellets. I'm using this method for over 35 years and I think I saved a few tins of pellets the past decades.
    About the adjustment screw for speed, there are some cheap pcp brands that have this feature. Look for the Kral Arms Puncher breaker (I bought this bullpup in .22 years ago for about 500 Euro's) It shoots very hard and very accurate and despite the fact that it's not regulated, it has a very smooth shotstring. I don't know if this gun is still sold under that name but if my memory serves me right, it was also sold under the name Pallas Bull. I bought this rifle just for fun and backyard plinking. I own quite a few air rifles from the "upper echelon" but I still like to grab the Kral . . . 👍

    Can't get enough of the Doc! Great video as always. I really like the creative mindset you have about making things out of simple materials such as the scope shims as opposed to buying them. Very simple and FREE solution. That reminds me how I came up with the cotton swab/q-tip/makeup wipe idea for cleaning your barrel instead of buying the "barrel cleaning pellets". On another note, and kudos to CVlife, I did recently buy two bipods from CVlife and I am extremely pleased with them. They are of good quality (aluminum), very sturdy and I'd say as good as the more expensive bipods I have previously purchased for my powder burner hunting rifles. One word of advice on bipods if I may Doc...... If anyone does a lot of shooting from anywhere other than a flat bench, I would highly suggest going with the "swivel" style bipod setup. Even though most all bipods have extendable and adjustable legs to get your rifle 'close' to level on an uneven surface, the one point that you nailed in this video Dr. Russ is the importance of being LEVEL!!!!!! No matter if you're shooting air rifles or powder burners, the importance of having your scope DIRECTLY over your bore when you pull the trigger is absolute hands down paramount for accuracy. I think this is a very often overlooked aspect when sighting in a scope or optic (as well as while shooting) that can make a great shooting rifle seem not so great, when in reality, it is operator error. Something this simple can cause that rifle to "find a closet" as you mentioned..... Long winded again here, my apologies, but I get excited about shooting and also like to help add some useful info when I can. Thanks Dr. Russ (And Dr. Paula for keeping Doc straight!!!!)😁

    • @gaoutdooradventures
      @gaoutdooradventures Před rokem +1

      Click on Dr. Russ's little picture (the small circle) and it will take you to his page where you can pull up all of his 100+ great videos. He has several videos you can choose from regarding cleaning your air rifle. Just be sure to NEVER use a wire or metal brush to clean your air gun bore (powder burners are a totally different story) since there won't be any carbon build up like a powder burner creates. Wire brushes can potentially damage or scratch the bore which ya definitely don't want to do. Also, for others who may read this, depending on what type of air gun you have, you need to be very careful and cognizant of what you clean your gun with. CO2, PCP, Springers, and gas pistons are all a bit different and can require different types of cleaning agents if you choose to use them if your barrel is dirty enough to warrant doing so. O-rings and seals can be damaged or ruined if the wrong type of lube or oil enters the internals of an air rifle or pistol, just fyi. I usually just run a small diameter plastic rod through my bore several times while pushing or pulling a linen patch with a tight fit. Try to always start at the breech side and push the rod as the bullet would travel down the barrel if you are able to do so. Easily done on a break barrel, not so easy on bolt actions as you will have to pull the patch through. I use a little bit of 100% pure silicone on the last patch or two to help clean and lightly lube the bore. Hope this helps. 👍

      Gracias Hermano ... Su Gamo Swarm Magnung 2da generacion es a buen rifle. However, the regular iron sites on su Gamo require scopes to look over them. With your scope y scope rings ... if possibly ... ustead can compre high rings that permit ustead to look under su scope Y still see the iron sights too... then those are the rings you want. Secundo, this extra height requires ustead to shoot targets father out than 25 meters ... perhaps 35 or 40 meters ... before su pellet can raise up to where the scope is aiming.... y then the pellet drops back down because of gravity and crosses the scope aim line 70 to 80 meters... allowing you to be accurate at both approximente 40 y 80 meters... Ustead have to use heavy pellets ... and probably slugs to slow your 177 or 22 Gamo Magnung down to be very accurate. Store your air gun with the barrel down... so that small lead y dirt will not fall down the barrel and into the air compression parts... this will cause your air gun to quit shooting ... and it cost ustead mucho dinero. Hello, great video. I have a question. I live in a small town and have no access to expertise except CZcams. I have just the one rifle, a Gamo Swarm Fusion Gen 2 .177. I have about 300 shots under my belt, and I am trying different pellets to get the best groups. I live in town and currently have no interest in hunting or knock down power, just target shooting. I am doing my shooting at 20-25 yards, the size of my lot, nothing farther. I am having some good results with Sig Flat 7.7 pellets. I think you also called them wad cutters. There is not much information out there about flat pellets. What can you tell me about wad cutters? Are they for pistol shooting? They make such neat little holes in my target. They seem to be more stable and forgiving. It makes me look good. I can stand a lot of that.

    • @russjones6497
      @russjones6497 Před rokem +3

      Bill Emshoff 9325 .... it is good to hear from you ...yes, we refer to those flat nose bullets, slugs ... and pellets as "Wad Cutters".... and yes they make perfect holes in targets ... and easy to score as it is easy to determine whether they touch inner or outer target circles. They are also very accurate and are used almost exclusively in competition... determining who won or came in second. They can also kill critters at 20 - 25 yards in 177 caliber ... and I think they will hurt a burglar bad enough that he will turn away. In fact, in the excitement of a robbery, he will likely think that he has been shot by a traditional bullet ... and head for a hospital. Continue to use them .... a video soon to be launched reminds our viewers that air guns are cool until they no longer work... and that often happens after lead scrapings and dirt drop down the barrel and into the air compression chamber ... something few gun repair men can fix... So be sure to wash your pellets... continue to lube with the same oil or silicone so that their speed continues to be the same... and then most importantly, store the gun with the barrel down on a rag ... allowing lead and dirt to fall the wrong way. Dr. Russ

While Red Dots are excellent for the use you plan with them ... be sure that the mounts that come with Red Dots (10 or 20 mm Picatinny rail) match your Gamo Rifle Picatinny mounting rails, which I believe are 10mm. I just got a GAMO air rifle. I was 20 yard from the target and it was off to the left about 8-9 inches. I adjusted the scope to the right and it still shot in the same spot. I attempted to adjust to the rest 4 times and I wasnt even hitting the target. Went back to the left and now I can’t get it back to where I started from the first shit. Don’t know if I need another scope or not. But do you know if I can use any scope of an air rifle?

    • @russjones6497
      @russjones6497 Před rokem

      Kajukidbo ... yes you can ... the only concern is that Gamo air rifles use a 10 mm wide track on top of the breach for mounting a scope.... and scopes come in 10 mm and 20 mm... and you can use a 20 mm scope but you also need a conversion piece that allows you to do that... around $10 ....found on eBay and CVLife.com .... Hi Dr Russ I've watched a few of your great videos, I have a 73' Benjamin 22cal. model-342 pump air rifle, I'm trying to find a set of good quality metal scope mounts for her to mount my Vector Veyron 4-16×44, any ideas of where you think I can go to buy them for this old rifle, also what are the pellet overs/unders at 25yds & 75yds if you zero your scope in at 50yds..? Thanx for any help you can give.e

    • @russjones6497
      @russjones6497 Před rokem +1

      Rob ... too many variables to calculate from here ... your 1973 Benjamin is a great air gun ... but we dont know what velocity she is shooting at 50 years after she was made. I would recommend that you continue to use iron sights ... or watch one of our newest videos on "all accessories that you need" ... you may want to only add a red dot ... but will likely need a picatinny rail converter to do so... lastly, you need to know where those pellets are going at various distances ... so it is best that you zero in at 50 yards ... then move your target to 25 and again to 75 to determine where those groups are hitting ... Keep in touch and let us know.... Dr. Russ

    • @russjones6497
      @russjones6497 Před rokem +1

      Gary... good to hear from you. First ... my wife keeps some foil down below the grates to keep the basic stove easy to clean. Secondly, the grates only get dirty from boil overs ... and not gas burning. It happens to the best of us. She tries not to fill the pans to the top where they can boil over... and she watches the boiling/cooking to make sure that it doesn't get to that point. When it does, she scrapes off whatever she can with a knife or wire brush... and then puts them in the dishwasher about once every two months. Hopefully these tips can help you ... Dr. Russ

    Good video, what do you think of a red dot on a spring rifle? Thank you

    • @gaoutdooradventures
      @gaoutdooradventures Před rokem +5

      Hey Peter. I'll add my 2 cents here if you don't mind. Whatever optic you put on a springer or gas piston rifle needs to be rated for a springer. Springers typically have a "violent" recoil both forwards and backwards, in a nutshell, and are very hard on scopes or optics. You may be aware of the different recoil characteristics of a springer vs. a powder burner rifle, but a springer air rifle can (and most likely will) ruin a nice rifle scope if it is not rated for a spring air rifle (PCP's and CO2 air rifles are a bit different due to almost zero recoil). Hope this helps.

    I bought a bone collector 177. Not sure what scope will work. It has a very narrow grove barrel. Weaver? Seems gamo does this to all their rifles. As I just got a gamo whisper rifle and it has a weaver too. The scopes don’t work. Nor do picatinny mounts work on weaver groves. Then there are different size width in each type mount or these groves. So I’m pretty much losing my passion. I can’t go from weaver to to scope. I have to add mounts on top of mounts to make a scope fit that I want to use. I don’t get why there is so much of a problem. And no videos on this. Guess I need to stop buying gamo guns. But why don’t they make their guns with at least a dove tail area so any dove tail mount will fit. You did talk about this a bit in your video. These weaver groves. But the way it works is I buy a rifle and then spend days ordering adapters and converters and even different scopes just to be able to mount scope on the rifle. Send back the wrong ones then buy new ones and send back the wrong ones and order a different scope even that will work with the Adapters I did buy. Back and forth. Days go by. Time flies. Seems like it should be easier. No instructions on how to find and fit a scope or mount that will work with any gun. Guess I’m the only one to ever have scope mounts that don’t work. Great video.
