I love the breeding pairs , especially the ones @4:41 , @5:22 , @8:04 , and @8:17 and everything in between , they are all awesome . What do you call the ones @31:58 what is the color called ? is it a pigeon blood ? I dont recall much , it has been years since I had any discus but I like that pattern and color . I also like the bright orange ones , and the solid blues , so many it's crazy . wow , @44:16 , what an incredible group of young fish , so many keepers in there , I would love to have . You have some amazing fish and your facility is awesome , It appears you are in Italy , how far away is safe to ship them . Is the U.S.A. too far ? .

What is the purpose of the metal mesh on the egg-laying cone in some of the breeding pair tanks?
Thomas Holden it’s there to prevent inexperienced fish from eating their spawn.
@@ArjanKop OK, I see. Thanks, I never would have figured that out. But if the breeders are inexperienced wouldn't there also be a risk of them eating the fry after hatching? Can discus eggs be hatched & raised w/o the parents as is often done with angelfish?
Thomas Holden they can, but it’s a lot of work. The fry depend on the parents for food, eating their mucus. There’s a way involving egg yolk smeared on the side of a plate, but it just isn’t as good as ‘the real thing’. The larvae will be protected by the wire screen for a while, and the parents will get used to the wriggling mass.
