TIP: If you place duct tape or painters tape inside of the tank where you are drilling the hole, it will do two things. 1) prevent the cut out from falling once you’re done drilling...and....2) It will significantly reduce the inside edges of the hole from chipping and flaking. 😉👍
Thanks that's an awesome tip I will for sure use!
That's the tip we needed to hear. Thank you!
Great video Jason. I have been looking around and have watched many videos on drilling tanks but this one has a lot of insight that the others I watched didn’t have. I actually feel more confident about drilling my tanks now. Thanks!
Your very welcome!
Very informative. Didn’t realize I could Styrofoam. Thought it had to be wood. Thanks again
Hey, thumbs up Jason. I’ve drilled a ton of glass and granite and porcelain. You’ve explained it as simple as possible to the masses. A sponge is a great way to apply water as well. Drilling tanks is the game changer in any aquatic system. Separates the average from the obsession. Thanks again. And you can drill slow if you don’t know what you’re doing. Break a ten gallon or two.
Thank you for another educational video. God Bless you too ❤
This is how I do all of my wife's gardening pots that don't have holes. Works like a charm.
Perfect timing Jason! I just bought my hole saws and bulkheads to do some of my aquariums. Great video
Glad I could help!
Extremely useful video, thank you !
Good video. Thanks!
Great step by step man!, thank you so much for the links also!
Your very welcome!
I really like your videos thank you for making them
Very good explanation ! Thx. for sharing
excellent, thanks
thank you for sharing your tips and experience. Im looking into doing this soon on my tanks, thinking about ditching the pvc overflow setup I have now, one lost its siphon, thats one too many!
Awesome man!
Great tutorial.
I just ordered bulkheads, but had NO IDEA what drill bits to use, I cant thank you enough!!
Your very welcome
Thank you for this
Well explained sir
Super! Thx! :)
Thanks for sharing the technique! Could you show the tanks set up that you drilled the holes for and the complete system? Again thanks!
Yes once I get a little farther along I'll show how all of it works thanks
Good stuff! I have been so scared to even try it.
You really need one to practice on to realize how easy it is
Something I was told by a tank manufacturer about bulkhead placement is to have the hole from any side at least as many inches the hole is. So if your hole is 1.5" diameter, the hole needs to be at least 1.5" away from any edge. This will also help so that when you put the bulkhead in the lip or nut won't be on a silicone seam or on ot right up to the trim.
Yes I've drilled mine to close before and could not screw on the fitting lol
Great video. I need to do this but I have so many 10s.
So did I. I had to break down 36 I had setup already and drill them all
Another great video mate lol i tried doing this when I was set up my shell dweller rack but i practiced on a few 10 gallons so i dont mess up the 40 breeders lol yeah i gave up just added pond pumps for easy water changes instead
Lol that's how I felt when I tried to cut slate
@@JadrenAquatics lol yeah seemed like it was the same level of frustration
Great info, thanks for linking the product. You said you silicone the bulkheads, do you leave the washer on or off when you do that?
I always leave the washer on thanks
You are one cool cat!😉🙄
I always want to but I am scared to do it thanks for the info I will try it now. Thanks again
Good luck it's really way easier than you think
I was wondering if you can drill a hole like this in the bottom of the tank?
Is the glass tempered?
The diamond drill bit is not sintered, not electroplated, more like a brazed bond, am I right?
Drill from inside out
You will be able to flood the are with water so I will be constantly lubricating the cut. It preserve the bit.
Set the tank on Styrofoam so when you get to the end of the cut you just do not blast roufg and cut does not chip as easy. On some larger tank I actually glue 2x2 " plate to reinforce the area and prevent the glass from breaking
Can you tell me what kind of drill you prefer to use for glass cutting and why?
Any type of plug in is what I use. Battery power will slow down when running for long periods of time
How can i cut a rectangle in glass ?
Where did you get the sick hat
I had it custom made. Thanks!
With a little angle at the beginning seems easier to drill
now i know how you do it but how do i do it. i'm so confused .lol just pulling your chain lol
is it possible to drill a 6 inch hole in a tank, I want to put two four foot tanks end to end to make eight foot, then cut a 6 inch diameter hole so the fish can swim from one tank to the other, I will join the tanks together with a bulkhead or with silicone. can you get a six inch cutter
I'm sure there is a hole saw that size somewhere probably cost $200 with that much diamond powder on it lol
I thought they were industrial diamonds, made by man, not mined.
I think some are
Pauly Shore
How to do it sideways? My tank is 1000lbs
The bigger the tank the easier it should be because the glass is so thick
what are you trying to say.?that i can only afford 19 gallon tank.i see how you are.i thought you was better than, lol just kidding.nice job
Instead of keep putting water on put a wet sponge inside the diamond drill
Thanks great idea
Saw it on another video couple of years ago
I want to drill my tanks so badly but I'm too afraid I'll break my tanks. They are large tanks so breaking them would be rough.
I was surprised that there is no mention of tempered glass. Someone watching this that is not aware will destroy their tank. Great step by step otherwise.
1:50 , can't tell if you are joking or not
Yes it definetely true
Pip pip
Is the glass tempered?
You can't drill tempered glass it will explode
