Owlhana Or at the very least institutionalized for life! So many reoffend after getting released back into the public, and it’s just not worth EVER taking the chance of giving them the opportunity to hurt someone else! This is not the type of thing that just goes away. Sure, some SO’s can reduce their urges with intensive therapy, but therapy will never cure someone of that level of pervasive sick sexual attraction and gratification, which will always make them a danger to the public.

In no way, it's an excuse whatsoever, because his actions were truly horrific and he deserved everything he got- but also, it's similar to the cycle of abuse- a child who is abused at a young age grows up and either continues to be the victim or asserts power by becoming the abuser- but JWG was a full on psycho, regardless. Plus, the cycle of abuse is no excuse for ANY of his actions in any way.

There are quite a few accounts of sexual offenders having experiences similar things in their childhood.

He told me that he had one friend that one day just disappeared and he never knew what ever happened to him. The dark joke amongst his friends was that "Gacy got him", that he and his little friends were just being little shits and that they never really thought that. It was just a twisted joke to make themselves not so scared.
Shockingly, vaguely roughly around 2015, news broke that by using similar DNA samples, a relative came up as a match for an until now unidentified set of remains from John Wayne Gacy's crime scene and that it was, indeed, that friend that went missing.

Also, when he got out of prison, he was unable to find a place to live so the police took it upon themselves to shield his file, which meant no one could see what he had done, not even other police departments. So, when the cops were investigating the murders, they were looking at everyone in the area with a criminal record, but they were blind when it came to the guy who actually did it. It pisses me off to no end.

Instead, they get sent to a psychiatric facility for an undetermined period of time and they usually spend more time there than they would have spent in prison. I know!!! The system failed him and the many victims that followed. So sad. Especially considering the had already been in prison??!! For assaulting a minor. Did they not even look into his past. Honestly so disturbing.

To answer your question about how someone could do this, a gene was found called MAOA that makes people predispositioned to be more violent and antisocial. From what I understand, they say to make a serial killer a lot of the time it takes that gene, childhood abuse, and psycho/socipathy

    • @michellemybelle2263

I absolutely believe Genes & environment together has a lot to answer for with a lot of crimes. I never understand how the plea of insanity is a thing as OBVIOUSLY if people are able to commit heinous acts medical examinations need to be done and we need to learn how to understand these things from an early age to avoid these crimes from ever occurring in the first place.

@@herpaderp-bp4pe I wonder if that is what triggered Gacy to kill him. It didnt seem like Gacy was interested in actually having a relationship with a man. He just wanted to use these boys for sexual gratification and dispose of them afterward. The boy showing too much interest was perceived as a liability to him.

I'm from Iowa & my dad used to be friends with a guy who worked at one of Gacy's KFCs. My dad was a teenager at the time and he stupidly stole from the KFC with his friend who worked there. Gacy found out and was pissed at my dad. This was before he started killing, though. But it's just weird to know that my dad knew Gacy when he was a teenager.

I can totally empathize with how his sister reacted to the whole thing. I think I’d be in the same boat- yes, this person you call a sibling committed all of these terrible murders, and that is unforgivable, but you also have these memories of them from when you were young and before they became this awful person. There HAS to be a major disconnect between thinking of them as a young person running through your backyard with you and having fun, versus a person who is a heinous murderer. It sounds insane.
