I started playing this, and it absolutely is blowing me away. I'm only about an hour in, but wow, so much love and attention to detail in this game. The art is amazing, and the little flourishes and minigames are insane. This is like if you took undertales cozyness and atmostphere but cranked the polish and quality up to 11, mixed it with earthbounds bizarre nature, and then took warioware and undertale and made the combat system off a hybrid of those two. If you've ever had a dream after playing final fantasy or earthbound, it might feel like this game. This might be the greatest game ever made if it keeps up this level of quality throughout. This is truly something special, everything is so captivating that you just get lost inside it's world. If you're on the fence, just get it.
Check out megs monster or one shot as well if you want an rpg that blends oldschool aesthetic with new twists and surprises. Indie games are still the best.

The premise certainly got my attention because I do like WarioWare and I loved Earthbound. the combat seems like it would be pretty fun and a nice take on battles, and accessibility options are always a plus. Despite its slight drawbacks, it seems like it could be a good experience when you're in the right mood for it. I might pick this one up sometime down the line. Thanks for the review.

This one looks really interesting! The wonderful-but-generically-named Creepy Castle has microgames in its combat, and I really enjoyed it, but they are MUCH slower than these; glad to hear you can turn down the speed on this.
It definitely gets chaotic lol
It really pisses me off that the black eye never goes away, and that pointing battle pose is just gone after the first 30 minutes of the game.

Something I noticed in your footage was the game running faster than it normally should due to the v-sync option. Not sure why it does this, but having v-sync off allows the game to run at its intentional speed which is slower than what your footage shows. Unsure if that might've inhibit you getting aclimated to the microgames, especially since a majority of them involve reflex input though I thought it be worth mentioning.
Otherwise I agree with many of the points you bring up. I've played through nearly 20 hours of this game and while I certainly enjoyed the journey, the game has certain aspects that could definitely be improved upon. Keep up the good work!

No, this is better than those two put together, I haven't completed it yet i'm only the 2nd chapter, but I was convinced immediately, everything is well thought out, this was clearly a labor of love. This is a must play, if you liked undertale, this is like if undertale was a Nes game and this is snes or psx. It's an evolution of the genre.

By default the game has Vsync turned off, which can cause your game to run 4-5 times faster than it was intended to. All the footage you have of the game definitely shows it running at that speed and that's why you probably weren't able to flee battles properly.
Could be! That's a really odd glitch! I'm pretty sure vsync was on though but will double check!
@@IDreamofIndie Sorry LOL I might've got it wrong the issue is something with the vysnc and whether your computer is set to old/modern/ultra-modern. I had the same issue and fiddled with those settings and fixed it, either way the game is definitely not intended to be played at that speed and it's unfortunate that a lot of people are playing through an entire game running at multiple times faster than the developer intended. Hopefully it gets patched to just work on default soon.

This game only goes downhill after the first episode, truly sad. Its one of the biggest messes I've played but I see the passion behind it, combat gets insufferable after a certain point and while the story is serviceable the dialogue is just bad. Hope their next game turns out better.
