- Happy New Year everyone! Time for the tradition of starting off the new year with a collection video, this time being my DVD Collection. I’ll also be explaining my reasoning for still buying DVDs in the modern era when we have Blu Rays and 4Ks these days. Enjoy!

Honestly another reason for why people collect dvds more is about dvds these days are a lot cheaper to purchase depending on the location or the rarity
That too, would’ve included that but I’ve heard Blu Rays can be cheap these days too so I wasn’t sure if I should add that.

Great episode
I like how the secret shopper is made to be someone we're not supposed to like until the end
So fanboy and chum chum trying to serve him while unintentionally hurting him is satisfying because it doesn't try too hard to make you relate to him
Unless you count the man artica obsession
I also love how the frosty freeze floor is animated traditional like but then again the show has some stylized cgi animation

Another great ppg epiaode is twas the fight before christmas
It definitely took princess morbucks character to a whole new level because she changed the naughty and nice list (something him, mojo jojo, fuzzy lumpkins, sedusa, gang green gang, amebea boys, or even salami swami would never do)
This proves that princess morbucks is the most pure evil of all the villains of townsvile but she's also the most incompetent
Yes she manipulated santa but santa later finds out that he doesnt need a list to know that he's been tricked
Dont mess with santa or his big meaty claws
Another highlight is the girls helping santa save christmas
Honestly this is one of my favorite holiday specials
I’m not sure if I’ve seen that actually. I don’t remember if it was on Hulu during my first binge watch back in 2021. I think it’s on Netflix though so I definitely need to watch it soon.

It’s crazy to think that this hated nicktoon is now ten years old

dvds are still vital in my eyes, some things you fancy watching you might not be able to find online, many people still dont have smart tvs, netflix, sky store and laptop sites never always have everything your looking for, i think many laptop movie sites have been removed over last 10 years i think there was more options back then on them then what there is now, and dvds are also good because internet connection is not always reliable so if there was ever a day you couldnt get anything to load by streaming they'l be very handy, i dont they have got to vhs stage just yet and might not for few more years

At 7:54 somebody donated the VHS version at my job where I volunteer at I was like yes it's out at goodwill I always wanted to see that movie just so I can get a break from the first movie .
That’s cool. I think you’ll like the second one. I always liked it more than the first one. I still like the first one but the second’s my favorite.
I just watched a video by the average critic on why shrek 1 hasn’t aged well
Now to be fair it’s not the worst review I’ve seen but I think he misinterpreted what made the first shrek film work
He’s actually not wrong about it being a product of its time since it’s clearly a giant middle finger to Disney
Unfortunately the review is loaded with typical reasons to hate an animated film that isn’t Disney (fart jokes, pop culture references, unlikable characters etc)
Here’s the thing that’s the point shrek is a satire of typical Disney princess movies
Of course the film is going to do things that Disney would most likely never do
He also criticized the film for focusing on Fiona’s journey alongside shrek by making her an ogre instead of shrek being handsome in the end
Once again that is the point plus shrek has gone through a character arc in this film so it’s not like his happy ending isn’t earned
Honestly this review sounds like the fairy godmother from shrek 2 wrote it
He also criticized donkey for being no different from other Eddie murphey performance at the time, he does realize mushu from mulan can also fall under that category right?
Once again that’s the point donkey is a parody of annoying sidekicks
If he really wanted to criticize donkey he should’ve said Eddie murphey casted as donkey felt like a typecast
Overall it’s not the worst review I’ve seen but unfortunately the average critic completely missed the point on why shrek left a huge impact
Now to be fair it’s ok to not like a popular show or movie so long as the opinion is understandable
But the review still felt paint by numbers
I will say this though I agree that nostalgia should not dictate the quality of the show or movie

Do you collect video game music CDs and vinyl records for your collection also like the Super Mario Bros. Movie soundtrack?
I haven’t thought about going for those tbh. I do have the soundtrack that came with the Wii Version of Super Mario All Stars but that’s about it.
I have another nicktoon pilot to reccomend It's called microcops from John Eng (protecto 5000)
Another banger they took the human body location towards its advantage and I love the simple underdog story without much dialogue
Also cam Clark's performance works so well

Also since you’re here, I’d like to ask you a question, a theory like question involving Invader Zim and Courage the Cowardly Dog. Now I know what you’re going to say, they’re both different shows which yes that’s true, but they both do have dark and horror like themes present in the shows, which leads to my question.
What if in an alternate reality, Invader Zim was a Cartoon Cartoon and Courage the Cowardly Dog was a Nicktoon. Do you think both shows would’ve had the same runs as each other on their respective networks as in Invader Zim having a four season run on Cartoon Network and Courage having a 2 season run on Nickelodeon?
@PizzamonMario I think it would depend on how they perform
There's no doubt that zim would become a pop icon if it aired on cn but it would also get cut short keep in mind cartoon network has canceled tv shows short in their run before
Plus since zim has gotten away with alot of stuff during it's original run it could still get canceled on cartoon network for being too radically different
As for courage same thing but nick could give it more seasons and treat it as one of their darlings at the time with spongebob, rugrats, Arnold, and fairly oddparents or it could get canceled for being too scary for children although courage compared to zim is quite time as alot of the nightmare stuff from courage wouldn't look too out of place on spongebob
I think it would depend on what happens
Btw any thoughts on the pilots I've reccomended sans microcops since I've just recommended that one

As for the Nicktoons pilots. I saw Stewy the Dog Boy. and that was pretty cool. Haven’t seen the others yet.

It's another turning into a baby episode
I have a poll Which episode did the baby thing better this, or spongebob's goo goo gas
I still think norbert would get along more with I am weasel rather than mordecai

That was a pretty good episode, it’s hard to judge which episode did the baby episode better as they both did different things with the premise. I suppose if you want an adventure storyline then Act Your Age wins, but if you want a villain storyline then Goo Goo Gas wins that, it would depend on what you’re looking for in the concept.
Also I agree with Norb getting along with I Am Weasel and Hector Hi Fives getting along with Mordecai, those partnerships make sense.
Mike I have a hot take
I prefer hotel transylvania over Madagascar
The first Madagascar film is ok but the penguins were the best part otherwise it's whatever
Hotel transylvania took cg to a whole new level and provided alot of creativity genndy tartakovsky was known for
And unlike Madagascar, hotel transylvania never overstayed its welcome
I havn't seen the fourth film yet but I have a feeling I'll like it
Well I personally love both franchises so I couldn’t put one over the other and neither one overstayed their welcome for me. But to each their own. I am curious though on what your thoughts are on Hotel Transylvania 4. Whenever you get around to watching it, let me know.

I've heard some good things about the nickelodeon video games developed by blitz
Do you have any reccomendations of those games
The only two I’m familiar with are SpongeBob Creature From the Krusty Krab and Fairly OddParents Shadow Showdown so I’ll recommend those two. Although I haven’t played the latter but I have heard good things about it.
And now that I think about it, the game’s going to be 20 years old this year, so maybe it’d be a good time to get it for that reason alone.

Nicktoon anemia and iodine, it's about two girls performing a seance in a haunted house and a little brother causes mischief
It's another great one I love the rockos modern life esque art style and the show definitely has alot of potential for more adventures with them
Cartoon network baloobaloob's fun park
About 2 teenagers helping an allien with his stage act
Another great one it's actually created by Aaron springer who would later create billy Dilley super duper subterranean summer
And what the hell I'll throw in one more nicktoon pilot
Snout about a bunch of people in an apartment with a snout doing their everyday lives

And I know it's redundant but any thoughts on kid from school, protecto 5000, and lucky lydia

Speaking of shadow showdown there was a fairly oddparents game that came beforehand called breakin the rules
Now from what I've heard it is well liked among the nicktoons video games but it certainly has elements that didn't age well
I remember there was a boss battle where you go through the motions of what happened in the episode spaced out
And in the crimson chin part there was a ppg reference

Jealous of that Nick collection! There's DVDs I am having trouble finding affordable prices are like All Grown Up Collector's Edition, My Life As a Teenage Robot, Invader Zim, Rocket Power and the Fairly Odd Parents without getting knock-offs or poor condition ones. Only Nickelodeon stuff I got are the SpongeBob movie trilogy Blu-Ray, SpongeBob Best 200 Episodes DVD, Hey Arnold Ultimate Collection DVD, Hey Arnold the Movie Blu-Ray, Wild Thornberrys Movie DVD, Jimmy Neutron Movie Blu-Ray and Rugrats movie trilogy Blu-Ray.
Yeah and sadly some of these ones I have aren’t available anymore since they were part of Amazon’s burn on demand service which they stopped. I know some people weren’t fans the service but for me it was still better than nothing and there’s still some of them I would’ve liked to have like the Back at the Barnyard sets and the El Tigre set for instance.
It’d be nice if Shout Factory or even Paramount could rerelease some of these shows at some point. In the case of Invader Zim though, there are three volume sets that make up the entire series, don’t know if you looked into those or not but that’s an option for you.

Favorite animated film that's not in cg, not made by disney, not spongebob, And not an anime
That’s a tough one. I don’t know if I’ve seen many animated films outside of these categories. Would the Spider Man SpiderVerse movies count? Cause that’s all I can think of outside of Nickelodeon films.

It's a really good 80s cartoon arguably one of the better ones since it's not made to sell you stuff it's an original idea about a mouse spy taking down evil

What do you think is inportant for a good tv show
I aplogize if its a question ive asked before but i'd figured i'd ask this since we have different views on what makes a good tv show
For me a good tv show should fall under these 3 categories
Creative, engaging, and interesting
Hence why i agree with why ed edd and eddy is considered a classic and why i consider Sanjay and craig, clarence, camp lazlo great shows despite their infamy

I would agree with your 3 categories. I think that’s a good way to sum it up for me as well. However, I don’t need the most creative piece of media in the world (and that includes movies and games) even if it’s overly basic as long as it still manages to grab my attention enough to keep me coming back for more, then that’s all I can ask for.

There is a thing as simple but effective
Shows like squirrel boy (at least on my opinion), and if you want to include it in that category spongebob squarepants are simple in concept but they both have interesting characters and good plots to help stand out (spongebob is kind of famous for this at this point)
Whereas shows like iron man armored adventures insists upon itself even though it's even more basic in nature not just in plots but also characters
Yes I've rewatched iron man armored adventures and it does not hold up at all
Tony stark here is a bland character and the main villain to sum it up is just (I AM EVIL)
That's why i'm critical to the action genre of animation while there are plenty that go all out with its premise and some that are forgivable due to the time period
Others feel the same
Then again for every powerpuff girls you get a iron man armored adventures
If a show insists upon itself or is boring then it's not worth my time

@PizzamonMario in case your wondering Mike the comedy genre or any kind of genre is not excempt from this issue either
I mean from my experience Canadian cartoons usually have a bad habit of being way too simple and sometimes insists upon itself (especially the flash animated ones from the late 2000s)
To be fair I've found some good Canadian cartoons in the market (ed edd and eddy and arthur are on my top 5 btw) but unfortunately they can be very hit or miss
Don't get me started on cgi animated movies
When it comes to entertainment I want the show to be creative and engaging and interesting and more importantly
I want the crew to have fun with the show and take it to new heights
Isn't that why animation is considered a medium to be respected so why not let the artists be themselves with the project

Which ryan drummond actually did
Look i think ryan is a great voice actor but i dont think his voice works for knuckles
Dont get me wrong i dont like travis willengham's voice for knuckles either
And honestly i never thought scott drier was that memorable as the red echinda
But ryan's knuckles sounds way too somber i understand that different actors are going to have different interpretations of the character but as far as knuckles voice actors is concerned ryan drummond is my second least favorite
I mean i like his sonic voice but his knuckles voice doesnt work

Mike i was watching some clips of dave the barbarrian
Mainly because i have a feeling people are going to use dave the barbarrian as an example on why my reason to hate the dan danger show doesnt work
Now i can attest dave is also a nervous character however unlike dan danger, dave is more understandable, and has more personalities besides being a nervous wrek
Plus the fourth wall breaks in the show which predate chowder shoacases that dave the barbarrian at least has some sort of self awareness
All in all dave the barbarian has better writting and overall more understandable conpared to butch's 2nd worst creation
You know its sad when an obscure 2000s disney cartoon did a much better job at handling a wimpy character compared to a series of oh yeah shorts

What is your least favorite oh yeah cartoons short
I really enjoy oh yeah cartoons for being a spiritual successor to kablam and what a cartoon introducing new pilots for nickelodeon
But not all of their pilots are bangers, although thats normal because your not going to like every aspect of a show
Surprisingly my least favorite oh yeah short is a series of shorts called
The dan danger show
Let me explain why these shorts dont work
Look i get what they are trying to do its a parody of wildlife shows with an adventurous host
And i get that dan is supposed to represent the guy behind the scenes but
Dan danger is extremely incomprehensible making him scared of everything is not an interesting trait (ok maybe it can be an interesting trait with good execution) look i get thats the joke but honestly it feels so one track
Look i get that courage has a similar trait in courage the cowardly dog but at least courage got some progression it doesnt stick but hey not everything has to stick plus near the end of the series there was an episode that explained courage's origins so at least his fear made sense
I know some will say but what about mr. Nervous from the mr. Men show well his. Segments at least add atomoshere to the show and at least mr. Nervous while scared all the time is at least somewhat understandable
Chris kirkman from the bravest warriors pilot it was mostly to express his feelings for beth plus in the series its revealed that he is an emotion lord so i expected nervous being one of his traits
Mr string (a little curious) he's supposed to represent adults who are just as curious even he had help from doris the door and mop thats normal
Dan danger has no excuse other than a failed attempt at a parody of wildlife shows and heroes to look up to thing
Honestly if bunsen is a beast didnt exist this would be the worst thing butch hartman has ever done
Granted this was before we found out who butch hartman is now but even so dan danger is garbage
Say whatever you want about tuff puppy, danny phantom or fairly oddparents believe me i have my criticisms
But at least the effort in all three shows are there, the passon was there sans seasons 9 and 10 of fop
Dan danger was a piss poor attempt at a wildlife parody show and even if the execution was better executed its still a one track short
Honestly i'd rather watch lucky lydia because as bad as the idea is at least lydia is understandable and her short had great execution despite being a one off
Dan danger is essentially how to i put itt without getting harrassed bu Danny phantom fanboys who loves butch hartman
A five guys burger it may have good ideas but poor execution (i mean five guys dont season their burgers)
Dan danger is honestly the low point of 90s nicktoons but then again considering how consistently good the 90s nicktoons are you can call that an achievement
This one I don’t think I can answer cause I haven’t seen enough of pilots from there to answer that, but at least Butch Hartman bounced back after Dan Danger with FOP, DP and T.U.F.F Puppy, even though he plummeted afterwards.

I personally think season 0 didnt age well while it is effective for its time there were some elements that don't add up
Like in the really bad day why would Jorgen want Timmy's fairies isn't that against the rules
Considering that he runs fairy world he should keep his priorities in check (I mean biclops did this in chalkzone)
But even then at least it's better than dan danger
Then again season 0 is just meh its clearly nowhere near as memorable as the series but I won't rule it out since if you want to see what fop was like on oh yeah cartoons but honestly just watch the pilot and then move on to seasons 1-6 or 7 or 8 depending on your opinion and then meet the oddparents after that Bail
If you want my least favorite fop short on oh yeah cartoons it's party of three
I get that timmy wants to get rid of Vicky but why would he do that and prove thar he doesn't need a babysitter especially when his parents don't care either way
Channel chasers and vicky your fired handled the timmy can't get rid of Vicky idea better because channel chasers gave timmy a realization that he has his fairies because of Vicky and with Vicky your fired it showcases that Vicky will do everything to gain more power even after she gets fired
Party of three is bad i'm not against simple episodes of fop but party of three was poorly executed
The beat fop short on oh yeah is a tie between the temp and where's the wand the temp despite a few flaws showcases that a substitute fairy isn't going to give out high expectations and where's the wand feels like an episode from the series mainly season 1
Season 0 is meh but hey, i'm not going to rule it out
@@jamesborlan2850 I suppose so but I was mostly referring to when Fairly OddParents became an official Nicktoon. As for Season 0, can’t state my opinion myself cause I haven’t seen it. Maybe someday I’ll watch it, idk.

The idea of emo being curious about the everyday life and Edward telling emo some rumors about how it works
There's so much potential if this was a series it honestly can be like tales from the goose lady but about life
One drawback is that it can get repetitive since being a one off is most likely for the best but hey if it becomes a series I'll watch it
I also loved herb (although it feels more like a kablam short than a oh yeah short) because of the idea of new school chef making kids lunches
It has alot of potential to poke fun at the school system if that was a series
