I believe in this product without even trying it. Years ago I essentially made the same thing out of a bow (archery) holster. I had already had one from my archery days.. one day I came up with the idea to set my monopod in it for my 500 f4
I use an old sea fishing rod waist bucket to support my monopod from my waist. Monopod has a carrying bracket with a bracket that I've made to receive an old laptop bag carry strap with metal buckles Carry strap is always attached to the monopod and round and over my right shoulder, so when walking around the monopod camera and lens is carried at my left side. Carry strap no cost waste bucket no cost, bracket cost a couple of bucks. 100% mobility and completely safe and no risk. Been using for years.
Have used the SpeedShooter harness for two months now. Have hand held for 16 years. The harness is a tremendous improvement over hand holding. Great analysis in your video. Concur with your assessments.

as an owner of a Z9, Z8, Z 400 2.8 tc, and the Z 180-600, I can see where this Harness is a huge plus if you're doing any type of mobile shooting with any of these big lens. Thanks for the information, as I find it very informative
I don’t want to speak for Ron, but I think he designed the speed shooter for birds in flight, which is his specialty. Any other use would naturally have some disadvantages.

The original concept for this was reusing old military flag holder harness. It’s a nice setup but a bit pricey. I reverse engineered thus with a duel camera body harness and molle tripod bag mount and a military belt. Works well with monopod and side mounted camera gimbal. It’s a good setup if you are working in a boat for tracking birds where you don’t have space for a tripod, the flexibility and stability wins out. The weight distribution is also better than a single shoulder sling system

Good review thanks. I've used the harness for a couple of years and found it very useful when I need to be mobile but also need my 600mm f4 prime. I like the added flexibility it gives me when I need to move my position from standing to crouching/kneeling/sitting. It takes a bit of getting used to - especially with big and heavy lenses - but it's a good system. I honestly would not do what you did though, and neglect to attach the security strap (which connects the top of the monopod to the strap on your chest). I don't think I'd have ever dropped my rig without it, but I've had a couple of near misses where I haven't been paying attention and the weight of the rig has got away from me and I've had a panic. The security strap would have saved me if I had completely lost it. I also use the Wimberley mono gimbal and the off=centre balance makes this more of a risk. For me, anyway... 😅
Love my SpeedShooter harness, I wear it all the time unless I'm in a safari vehicle. Ron is great with customer care and he's not shy in asking for feedback. The security harness which I don't see you using is really important too, I feel better with a 600 on there with that attached to the sternum.
I was thinking it might work well in a Safari vehicle? Is it too awkward?
@@stuartblink I prefer to be low to the ground in the vehicle so I don't use any support equipment aside from bean bags. The great thing about the speed shooter though in normal situation is I can sit or stand and never lose the animal from my view, and i can have a 600 in my face all day long and not be fatigued at all. Its a brilliant bit of kit and I wouldn't be without it.
Scott, thanks for the review. I have been looking at this system and now have something more to consider other then the manufacturers video.
So just like a monopod or a ground pod it's a nice to have but not needed. I sling my Sigma 150-600+70D and some times tripod bit depending on what I'm shooting.
Tje Wakia sling is $20 and not bad for 3 or 4 hour hikes.
I really feel like I came up with the best option for carrying a heavy lens and camera long distances, while keeping it at the ready.
I bought some Peak Design Anchors and had the my mother-in-law sew one into a strap that'll attach to my Seek Outside Goshawk backpack harness via a Seek Outside Gatekeeper. I attach it to my right, about armpit level.
With this setup, the weight is supported by my backpack harness and I can quickly adjust the length. So I can shoot handheld with the strap attached.
I don't have a monopod, but if I did, it would be super easy to incorporate. And just like now, when shooting handheld, I'd never have to worry about dropping it.
I like using the Monopod/Wimberely Head, tripod, Cotton Carrier or Black Rapid harness. The first two are my preferred methods. I just bought the Cotton Carrier for my z9/180-600 for Airshows. When not shooting, I just put camera on the chest harness, which gives relief to the shoulders. When walking in the crowd or getting photo area in the field the harness allows one rest. The CC has a strap that goes over the lens to secure it and a tether strap when shooting. In my view CC doesn’t fit well with long primes like 400-800. I tried with my 500f4/Z9 and found the camera was under my chin when walking. Even with the strap adjustment on the harness. The monopod has become my preference for in the field mobility to hold the weight, while I just point to shoot. The Black Rapid is used for short trips.
I am shooting the z9 with the 500pf or now the 180-600, employing vr and not really shooting any video, the Black Rapid with an Arcatech quick release is the best. I can get the camera up to my eye quick enough and the ability to pivot virtually anywhere fast is good. My system is very comfortable, no problems with the weight on my shoulder and with the quick release, I can get the camera off of the strap instantly for super low, tilt screen shots and for getting into my car, at a restuarant, etc. I have thought a lot about this harness and for me, I don't think so. I agree for video and super slow SS shooting, tripod is a must. However, as one gets older and weaker, or stepping up to a heavier rig, maybe!
His inspiration was a flag holder. I was an early follower of his channel and it was originally just a link to a flag holder on Amazon. He made some alterations and made it better
I imagine better adapted than someone trying to save 20 bucks with a flag holder on amazon.

Really liked how you set out the use case clearly. I do a lot of walking with my gear and have experienced the shoulder bruising with monopod on shoulder 😂 I also think it could be good for using in a safari vehicle.
Great timing. I was debating as to whether I should spend the money for this system.
I use two short paracord straps attached to the camera with quick releases and the other ends attached by carabiners to D-loops on my backpack straps.
For longer hikes: get yourself that plate carrier and a longer strap for the monopod so you can carry the monopod on your back.

Thanks. I like that you can squat with it, but, if I go low, I usually go belly down low and kick my support off to side. My biggest concern I saw is when your eye level subject flies up in a tree. Seems like would be a nightmare adjustment with sling. Good video friend.
Great video. One question I have is, how practical is shooting anything with the harness thats not parallel to the ground?
Eg: tilting up to shoot birds in flight, I imagine you have to pivot back at the waist whilst using the harness.
I'm curious too. I have a 600mm lens for bird photography that is a challenge for me to hold. I'd love some system that gives me some stability while following birds in the air.
That't a fair point....... and now I can answer that so I hope someone addresses it. I know people use it for low flowing raptors, not sure about over head birds.
When you said that you had the camera adjusted to eye level in the harness the lens was pointing downward and not level to the horizon.

Is this the regular fit or the +10 upsize for 6ft 225+weight? A decked out setup is very pricey for what it is it seems. I use to have a Kinesis harness and the monopod addon option like this was like $20...
The dude who sells them is chunky but he is short too. Maybe ask him on his channel?

Any women here who have tried this? Im a small frame but large bust,,, hence all harnesses so far are useless and i cant use my cameras without them being shoved into my chin. Looking at these but unsure if another waste?

What a waste of time…you don’t address shooting with this thing. You only talk about hiking (7 times).
Because to me that is what it is best for..... Assuming you watch the whole thing since you counted the times I talked about hiking. I mentioned how it differs from hand holding/sling and monopod alone which are the other options its up against
I lay down a lot for perspective. This Set up probably wouldnt work for me but like @josephmoorris5169 stated, it was likely designed for BIF
