This is so sad. The only shred of positivity I can see in this tragic event, is the pilot died doing something he clearly loved. He lived more in his shortened life than most of us ever will. Respect to him and condolences to his family all who knew him.
When News broke too me early Afternoon 25-05-2024 I dont know if its because of the fact that I have now turned 60 but my immediate thoughts and feelings were of panic and sheer devastation any Aviation incident is devastating enough but this was just mind numbing and gut wrenching all the rest of the afternoon I was praying 🙏 that the pilot hadnt perished but when the news broke there had indeed a fatality I found myself breaking down and crying with distress S/Ldr Mark Long rest in.peace Old Chap in those blue skies above us you served your country admirably
So sad to hear this. it is typical of Mark and his serving colleagues that keep the memory of the colossal sacrifices of all the allied ww2 pilots … indeed all pilots alive with a Living history in the form of the BBMF . My late father was one of the people in the civil service in liaison with the RAF who pioneered the BBMF (not without opposition) And made it a special part of the service so it could continue. My father was invited to the 40 th BBMF anniversary , I was lucky enough to attend as his guest. I feel privileged indeed to be remembering also the 1957 inaugural display at Biggin hill as a ten year old . RIP Mark
