    I tried a 4x4 waveform antenna a while back based on your vids. I'm in a forested canyon, and it unfortunately didn't work for me. Waveform customer service was amazing though, giving tips via text, and even extended my return window beyond Amazon's so I could do more testing before returning it directly to Waveform and getting a refund. Thanks for your videos on this.

      That's great to hear about the support. Sadly there are still areas that are out if cell range and sometimes this doesn't work.

    I have my country “casita” like that. You should check the specs on the tower. In my case I can get 50mbps most times. But, and a big but, I know the tower has a single 4g 10mhz bandwidth channel. So 50mbps is all it can give for the 600 users it can handle. And indeed, when there is a fair in the near town, weekends etc, the speed is crap. Starlink is the way to go.

    When you get fiber look into a router that you can setup a backup wan for seamless wan fail over. TP link omada and ubiquiti unifi or edge router x are a few to mention.

    The T-Mobile lower frequency (band N71) 5G service is really the best for long distances, just because of the lower frequency carrier band. The lower frequency can penetrate through foliage, some buildings and travels further than higher frequencies. The downside is that it cannot provide as much aggregate bandwidth as the higher frequencies.

    • @TKCL
      @TKCL  Před 2 měsíci

      N71 is the exact band I'm locked into.

    I have been waiting on fiber at our property we are currently developing. The boxes were installed along the road almost 9 months ago but it still not available. We have some time yet before we will be putting a house on the property and moving but hopefully it is not too long before it is available. The cell service is terrible there too although they are putting a new cell tower up less than a mile away so that may also improve once that comes online. Fingers crossed.

    Thanks for the update. If I heard correctly you’re running to separate networks, home and shop. Does or can your smartphone connect to the shop network when not on the property?

    • @TKCL
      @TKCL  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Two networks is correct, although I don't technically need it. The only way I can connect to the shop when not home is through my security system or solar.

  • @LorenTedford
    @LorenTedford Před 2 měsíci

    Wow it looks like all those lines have Ferrite Chokes made in them!! (15:20) That typically helps with interference issues. If you don't have them on your current lines I recommend adding them to it.

    • @LorenTedford
      @LorenTedford Před 2 měsíci

      Also it's always important to have multiple WANS or internet connections. if you use a PFsense box you can connect all the WANS up and do load balancing and automatic fail over for all the wan's Anyway it should prevent you being 100% out unless everything goes down at once.

      @@TKCL I just purchased the Netbuddy 5G Outdoor Router and the Waveform Quadpro Directional 4x4 MIMO antenna. I hope to connect it up in the next few days. I will reply here when I think I have the best connection order for the cables from the antenna to the SMA connectors on the router.

    Latency, Latency, Latency?
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
    A ping rate of less than 100ms is considered acceptable, but for optimal performance, latency in the range of 30-40ms is desirable.
    Using ethernet cable gives you a faster and more reliable internet connection. This is because a wireless connection relies on radio waves, and speed is lost when data is converted every time it’s sent and received. With an ethernet cable, data is transferred in an instant via the wired connection.
    Most all the difference you're observing is 100% from the internal AP Not the router.
    You're injecting a 50% LOSS in speed via the Orbi, what are you not seeing 🤔
    ???

    • @TKCL
      @TKCL  Před 2 měsíci

      Absolutely not getting a 50 percent loss. The phone ALWAYS has slower speeds than my computer for some reason. I can run a speed test upstairs connected to the cellular router and then connect to the Orbi and there is usually very little to any speed difference. Outside over the phone and a satellite I do expect some drop. Don't forget in this same video I got 120ish down on the computer upstairs and over 100 outside via phone. Yes one speed test netted 274, but it changes all the time when testing for various reasons you are aware of.
