THANK YOU. I had to open my walkman due to a recording issue and this was an absolute lifesaver. This video paired with the service manual made it much easier to figure things out. Awesome job!
No worries, Made my day seeing that the video managed to help you out! Thank you :)
Thanks! Luckilly my spring didn't break for the auto-stop, it had just slipped off its mount. Got it back on and now the autostop works properly! But now I messed up the buttons to where I have to push really hard. Time to take this old girl apart for the 20th time. haha!
Ahh yes, I'm familiar with taking something apart for the 20th time haha. The Joys!
Very nice video - thank you so much ! This really helped me to figure out how to fix my F65 !
No worries at all! I'm pleased to hear it helped you out. These things are never easy to fix
Nice dude ur so lucky that you've got a Walkman
Welll sometimes it can be a curse haha. I've had this one for a few years, so got them when they weren't so expensive
Heed or head ! Thanks for the informative video
haha No worries!
It always amazes me with Sony, how much they pack into such a small unit. Well, back when Sony used to be a good brand. Since the PS2/Vita era they are expensive junk. You have a lot more patience than me! I would of just chucked this in the bin.
Ahh yes the modern disposable tech, I'm amazed at the engineering it took to cram all this stuff in. Also it really did take me all day to fix it
@@thesmokingcap I am amazed how they got some of it to work.
great video
Glad you enjoyed!
Yeah!
This one was painful to repair haha, oh well. Beats scrapping it
Nice video for disassembling. Do you know where I can get the rubber drive belt. Mine is all sticky, stretchy and was stuck to the big drive wheel. Where can I order this? Thanks !
Glad you found it useful! I get my belts here www.google.com/url?q=fixyouraudio.com/product/belt-sony-wm-f65/&sa=U&ved=2ahUKEwiY5Onk6J_8AhWC63MBHRF0DoYQFnoECAcQAg&usg=AOvVaw3KOEmZ-RPVwSGHV1bqQaK1
@@thesmokingcap Cool, thanks. Everything else seems to work so I'll try a new belt.
@@thyone2669 No worries! And good luck, they can be a pain to work on
@@thesmokingcap So I replaced the drive belt on my Sony. It plays the tape but there is a buzzing noise. Doesn't matter if the tape is in or not and the radio works perfect. Bad ground? assembled wrong? Any help would be great!
Found the problem. It was the record button causing the buzzing. Sprayed with contact cleaner and worked it on and off.
Hi there. i have just purchased one of these amazing walkmans from EBay for a very good price. I have successfully replaced the belt with a new one from OS. Everything works with the exception of the play button popping back up after a few seconds Sounds like the auto stop is kicking in or something. Any ideas of guidance would be amazing! Thank you 🙏
Sorry for the slow reply. It sounds like the auto stop is triggering. I would check the little bit of black plastic You can see it next to the head of the walkman at 23:47, It sounds like it's in the wrong position and triggering after a few seconds
@@thesmokingcap that’s ok I really appreciate the feedback. I think you are bang on. I can hear it clicking every second or so, and when I open the front lid and look at the pinch roller it looks like a little black spring or something is spinning around with it in time with the clicking sound. Hopefully not a broken spring or something. If that’s the case looks like the solution is to clip off the little black arm with side cutters like you mention. Spare parts will be impossible. Cheers
@@thesmokingcapall fixed and finally working! I opened the back removed the capstan thingy. It was definitely the auto stop. The little black plastic lever looking thing was catching and triggering the auto stop. Looked like the spring was still in place but not springy enough. Trimmed back the black lever with side cutters as you allude to. Put all back together and all working albeit no auto stop. (Not a biggy!) Thanks for this video without it would have not worked it out to get the WM-F65 running. Legend! 🙏
@@Jasbo001 Nice! Glad to hear you managed to save this one. They're tricky things to keep running, glad the video was some help as well!
Your video is great. I have a F65 with radio work. Replaced a new belt all gear run. However it does not have sound comming out on tape mode. Checked all wire are connected. I am very headache with it. Do u have any idea what could cause this issue?
Glad you enjoyed! It's hard to say re your issue. If you dont get sound via the Radio. Then there could be a broken wire to the amp. If you do get sound there is a few things to check. The position of the tape pause switch. Just making sure that's not turned on. Also check the head wires at both ends. Mainboard to head. I would use a multi meter to test that. And lastly a common issue is a broken wire somewhere on the board. Every time I've had no sound it's been one of those. Bad capacitors can also play a part in this but are harder to diagnose as there are many on the boards. Hope that helps
@@thesmokingcap thank you for your suggestion. I will try to find it out as suggested ☺️
Thx for the vid! Do you know where i can buy one of these?? 22:19
Glad you enjoyed the video! For the hubs, sadly I have no good source for these. I had a few broken units I robbed parts from
Hmm... I have the same problem with the gear. Thanks for the reaction!
@@sussebeest No worries! Yeah getting the parts is the hard part. You might be able to fuse it back together with your soldering iron
How many WM-F15/WM-65's have you repaired? I saw you have a graveyard and what looks like a professional tool set. Anyway, your video scared me to death :-( :-( I have a WM-F15 that needs a belt. My repair experience is mostly with laptops.
I've repaired a few over the years. But self taught myself how to fix them. This video was quite extensive. But a plain belt isn't too bad. I would just checkout the latest one on my channel as it's more how to replace the belt. So hopefully will help you! But I would say try it but work slowly and you should be fine! :)
Hi
My old saisho PS17EQ has come to a fault.
The sound from my headphones is gone minimal faint unable to hear.
At volume it's gone completely faint.
So please advise as to what can be done
Or where the issue is if more than one.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
Hey hey, Not sure with that model as I've never worked with it. I would check the FM radio, if it's doing the same thing with FM, then it will rule out a tape transport issue. Thing to check would be cracks around the headphone jack pins. Loose wires on the board. Also there could be worn out capacitors in the audio amp circuit. Hopefully something there helps!
Hi Mitch,
thanks for the great Video.
Unfortunately, I failed 😨
Would you also accept a repair of my device from Germany
Cheers
Johannes
Thank you :) What is the issue with your Walkman?
The tape drive, doesn’t work
@@Cafesahne_36 Ahh, okay. I assume the belt is fitted. Does the radio portion work?
@@thesmokingcap That could be, I've already changed the belt. But that didn't succeed
The Radio works fine
@@Cafesahne_36 Sorry, forgot to reply. Well it's getting power. It could be a wire is loose or the wrong way around. Also there is a pause switch on the front, I wonder if that has failed, stopping it from working. The switches can fail over time
