Hmm the arrows are going backwards but the tire appear moving forward.
Correct me if I'm wrong but don't wheels rotate in the opposite direction to your arrow if a car is moving forward
Dont care about that but i love these videos
More aviation stuff!!!!!
too bad it doesn't work when i click sign in with google OR the sign up button
[edit] nevermind, it worked now. their server must have been overloaded or something
hope i find a decent android programming course there.
@real engineering: you forgot there is now a Tesla Roadster travelling at more than 20000 kph!
BIg deal. Im moving at 67000mph. Im riding the earth around the sun
touché good sir!
Erik Ellison I read from thealantic that it's speed is 33.5 kilometers per second
in my defense i said more than 20k kph, 120k kph is more than that!
T tba Pff, I am moving close to the speed of light relative to the light comming from my laptop.
Technically the helicopter will beat the car in top speed. All you need to do is drop it until it reaches terminal velocity. Never said along which axis it needed to be traveling. Semantics son!
Actually not sure about that. Don't think the terminal velocity of a helicopter is terribly high.....maybe if you flipped it over and used the thrust downwards.
or loose the propellers mid-dive
Pretty sure a car in free fall would be faster.
Helicopters should autorotate in the event of power loss, so won't actually fall very fast at all
Turning a helicopter upside-down isn't that easy. It requires special rotors, fuel tanks, etc. For example at helicopter shows they use specialized helicopters for rolls and flips.
that transition at the end actually made me laugh. Another great video!
Omricon 😂 I did the exact same thing
it made me think... i was currently going through an android course that i wasn't liking very much and i was kinda wanting to find a new one. so why not. i signed up
Would a helicopter still be a helicopter if we strapped a few jet engines to it?
Look up the Sikorsky S-69, it's even faster than the x3 but nobody ever remembers it
@@aeroturtle4395 actually the S-69 is more of a gyrodyne or compound helicopter and is a different class of aircraft all together
No, IT would turn into a Airwolf!
Yes and it's still called a helicopter even if you put missiles on it before the race.
@@Extrasailor I loved Airwolf so much when I was younger, everything about it was cool.
Just play Initial D songs and your car will go faster..

I'm doing a design project involving helicopter dynamics and TECHNICALLY helicopters use a different equation for Lift, known as the thrust equation, which is:
T=(rho)*b*c*(Omega)^2*R^3*tc
Where rho is the density of fluid, b is the number of blades, c is chord length, Omega is rotational velocity, R is the radius of the propeller, and tc is the (British) thrust coefficient

I work for Leonardo Helicopters which is formally Westlands who built G-LYNX (Worlds fastest helicopter) Fantastic video! Lovely to see some helicopter mechanics however, i would state that the RPM of a helicopters main and tail rotor blades does not get any faster once it hits its operating RPM. Instead its the change in angle of attack on the blade not the increase in RPM that generates lift.
6:04 there was a version of this back in. 1950s called the Fairey rotodyne. It had a freespinning rotor and two turboprops mounted on the wing to push it forward and boost its efficiency. It had tipjets on the tip of the blades to lift it up and are shut down in forward flight. Sadly it doesn't exist anymore
6:59 damn that transition to an advertisement was smooth AF
That transition from content to sponsor message was smooth as fuck XD
Rafi Ahmed Chowdhury 😂
Not really smooth, but got baited a bit. Smooth ones would be like talking about something and transiting into an ad in one sentence or something.

I adore listening to you talking about cärrs.
why i am asking you to make a video on those topics is, you are great researcher and the way you explain the concepts with cool graphics are excellent and anyone can understand. though i am a software engineer here in my country i am much interested in physics and math. please make videos on those topics and keep it up
With reference to the Lynx the BERP rotor blade design might be an interesting subject.

The AH 56 Cheyenne project was the early combination Rotary Wing platform. It was fast and maneuverable, but not close to perfected when canceled. Fastest rotor speed in a flying machine has to be the Fairey Rotodyne, the Screechtastic helicopter with ram jets out at the ends of the rotor blades.
The ability to change the angle of attack of the helicopter blades is actually how it tips the rotor forward using gyroscopic procession, and the dussimetry of lift effectively cancels that out making it so it's a negative feedback loop

The fastest car in (or out) the world is a Tesla Roadster. One can reach speeds fast enough to escape the earth's gravity.
Ethan Roberts Does anyone actually know at what speed it's moving now?
11.2km/s ?!
It would of had to reach that speed just to leave earth's gravity but maybe 13 or 14km/s to reach the asteroid belt.
It is currently traveling at 3.12 km/s relative to Earth. It is continuing to lose speed as Earth's gravity drags on it. The amount of velocity lost to gravity will decrease as it gets further from Earth (twice the distance equals a quarter of the gravity) but never quite reach zero.
And of course its motion relative to Mars is very different, at 19.84 km/s.
My source for the speeds is this website here: www.whereisroadster.com/
I found the link for that website in this discussion here: space.stackexchange.com/questions/24973/current-speed-of-tesla-roadster-which-is-moving-to-asteriod-belt
What about the lunar rover?
Did that reach higher speeds or not?
Also: when the blades of a rotor hits the sound barrier, assuming material strong enough to withstand the aerodynamic forces, the turbulent airflow due to the compression of air will cause the rotors to stop generating lift altogether.
That transition into the ad was so smooth, I'm impressed. Good job, seriously!
I've watched a few of your videos now and it's really great stuff.
In this video you touch on some really interesting topics with the lift equation, dissymmetry of lift and flow separation.
I'm currently studding for my helicopter pilots license and find that understanding the principles of flight is much easier with animations, rather than just reading a book. Sadly there are very few videos on the subject on CZcams, and those there are are of pretty low production quality.
If you were to make a series of animated lectures on helicopter principles of flight, aerodynamics, effective translational lift, gyroscopic precession transverse flow and all the rest it would be an invaluable source of information and study material for helicopter pilots to be. And hopefully lucrative for your channel too.

Dude again.... your videos are amazing, i don't get tired to see them. A hug to you from Cuba.
The Lynx isnt going to be the benchmark for "helicopter" speed much longer, Sikorsky's S-97 and its Coaxial rotor design with less blade length + pusher tail rotor will able to hit higher speeds as there are engineering solutions (the stacked rotors) that solve a lot of the issues with rotors you mentioned, and its based off of the Sikorsky X2 you mentioned at the end.
Agera Max tested speed: 445 Km/h
S-97 Design Max Speed: 444 km/h
S-97 Max Test speed: probably more than 445 Km/h
Update from 2019: Bugatti Chiron hits 490km/h.
No helicopter has come close to this speed.
To fix dissymmetry of lift due to relative wind, rotor systems have to be able to flap. Flapping is what causes the changes in angle of attack due to its upward and downward movement as well as forward causing a change in the resultant relative wind. The retreating blade has less relative wind so compensates by flapping down, increasing the angle of attack. Because of this the faster the helicopter travels the more it will have to flap downward increasing the angle of attack and stall as its traveling around that side of the rotor disc. This is retreating blade stall and will induce a roll over motion toward that side.
You can't just dive a helicopter down because there is always dissymmetry of lift. So there will always be retreating blade stall at VNE. Even when the collective is reduced and not much pitch is applied to the blades.
The Chinooks dual rotor system compensates for torque/anti torque effects so that it does not need a tail rotor. The rotor system is still limited by retreating blade stall at VNE.
Excellent video. I believe the land speed record was set in the Koenigsegg Agera RS with the 1MW engine option, however.
I love your videos keep up the good work. Find them interesting and fascinating.
When you hit 1million subscribers. I'm going to celebrate by cutting a cake.
I know, I'm sad. (sigh)😔
How was the cake?
I’d love to see how you make your animations/drawings.
FutureNow right!?
The Lynx was heavily modified with its engines producing thrust also. The BO-105 has also achieved 404km/h. With the use of 4 or more rotors or stub wings achieving 400km/h isn't so difficult if it is designed for high speed, but the rotors and associated components are optimised for lower speed and hovering.
Love your videos man. Keep it up!
What goes faster; AH-64 Apache, or whatever cars you can come up with?
Answer: AH64 blew up the car, AH64 wins.
Real Answer: AH64 was shot down by AA Flak guns on the Koenigsegg
"Will always limit helicopters for the rest of time."
Hmmm.. not so sure about this.
Consider a helicopter on Saturn? The hydrogen atmosphere should give it a much higher speed limit due to higher sound speed.
Also consider that a helicopter can, in principle, be designed to pitch very far forward.
@real engineering: You forgot about the Sikorsky X2 and S-69:
"On 15 September 2010, test pilot Kevin Bredenbeck achieved Sikorsky's design goal for the X2 when he flew it at a speed of 250 knots (290 mph; 460 km/h) in level flight,[30][31] an unofficial speed record for a helicopter.[3][32] The demonstrator then reached a new record speed of 260 knots (300 mph; 480 km/h) in a shallow 2˚ to 3˚ dive,[33] which was just short of the 303 mph achieved by the Sikorsky S-69technology demonstrator helicopter."
Okay admittedly they are not production helicopters. But lets talk "real world average speed" which is a much better measurement metric of performance!
Was going to comment about the Osprey, but then you brought it up. Glad you have taken this much into consideration!

Huh, you're right!
1:58 you used the horsepower at the crankshaft, not the wheel horsepower. Drivetrain loss due to friction is usually around 15%-20% for a RWD car, which would leave you with about 985 hp (735 kW) at the wheels, which is what matters.
Another great video! Well done, sir!
It depends if the race takes place in SOVIET RUSSIA
Well, I have a question: on what occasion would normal propellers have an advantage over jet engines?
They provide more efficient lift at slower speeds, jet engines can rev higher because the airflow through the nacelle is relatively constant. Although planes like the SR-71 did have to worry about shock-waves messing with airflow into the engine, they had solutions for it.
Real Engineering ah, you have my thanks.
Turbojets are more efficient above Mach 1.2
Turboprops below Mach aprox 0.5
And Turbofan in the point in between 0.7-0.9.
So propellers are better suited in short range trips like between islands where a jet cannot build enough speed or altitude to reach thier optimun efficiency.
+Angel Marin The other component of course is the altitude turbojets in particular are much more efficient in the colder air of high altitudes and even the hybrid operation of the turbofan benefits from this as the jet core which still provides 15-25% of the thrust having a similar performance boost at high altitudes. The latter does have a lower penalty as the 75-85% of the thrust being produced by the ducted fans propelling air through the bypass ducts which does't have that penalty. Of course it takes a good 15-20 minutes to climb to those optimal altitudes and the same to descend so they suffer a performance hit with short flight times which also tends to limit on flights with flying times much bellow around the 45 minute mark which is a good 450 km even with the low speed departure and approach phases included.
GREAT VIDEO!!!!!!!!! Love it. Please keep them coming
These videos just keep getting better and better!

Recommended is where we want it. Barely anyone uses subscriptions anymore. The last few videos have done terribly because they didn't get recommended, which is why this video is so clickbaity. Need to get back up the algorithmic rankings
that's unfortunate. I hope this video does well for you. I really enjoyed it.

+madattaktube Indeed I would think really those aircraft would come in a hybrid category of their own heliplanes? I dunno what to call them but they are no more helicopters than a turbofan engine is a turboprop or a turbojet for that matter they are hybrids that trade off between the advantages of both modes of operation.
It still is a helicopter.
He might object to it - but there is nothing saying a helicopter needs to get its forward thrust form the same propellers as is providing the lift.
otherwise every single helicopter with a tail-rotor would not qualify as a helicopter either. It is just hypocrisy to say otherwise.
+ABaumstumpf even than it wouldn't be faster than the fastest car, that would be the ThrustSCC, which went over the speed of sound.
Fastest production car in the world is Elon Musk's Tesla Roadster 😬
It's barely in production
It's not in production yet so technically not
Fastest unproduced car
Also its not, it has a top speed approximated at 250, in a 0-60 or 0-100 absolutely but not max speed yet.
Dwaing being in space doesn’t count
There have actually been some really interesting developments in helicopter technology lately, although none of it has been put into production yet. For example, a Fenestron, an enclosed tail rotor, significantly reduces turbulence (and thus noise) by not tossing its air up into the main rotor, and there've been plenty of advances in rotor shape and design, including adding backswept tips at the end for the same reason commercial airliners do, to reduce the vortices that form at wingtips that cause turbulence, noise, and can shake the wings apart. A helicopter built with these technologies could surpass the performance you've reported on, because it would have fewer problems in getting closer to the speed of sound.
The failed Comanche project by Boeing-Sikorsky incorporated these functions, but the Air Force wasn't particularly interested in them, in favor of upgrading current vehicles, and the basic weakness of Helicopters being that they effectively have to hover around an active battle zone to provide support, which makes them a pathetically easy target for any shmuck with a shoulder-mounted RPG. Modern unmanned drone technology has effectively put the idea of an attack helicopter in its grave, as a drone can perform virtually all the same functions without risking a human pilot. But it would've beaten the old helicopter speed record handily.
If you're planning to visit Malaysia again, please consider to make a fans meet up. It would be the best moment ever to meet your fav youtubers in person 😍😍
