  • We sat down with fertility doctor, Dr. Zaher Merhi, to talk about needle-free IVF and Mini-IVF, which are alternatives treatments to conventional IVF.
Dr. Merhi discusses how Mini-IVF can benefit women with diminished ovarian reserve (low ovarian reserve) to improve egg quality and explains how needle-free IVF works for women who want to do IVF without injections or blood draws.
Dr. Merhi is a reproductive endocrinologist at Rejuvinating Fertility Center in New York City.
In this video, we’ll be looking at:
-IVF without injections, how it works
    -Needle-free IVF protocol
-How many eggs can you get in IVF without injections?
    -Who is Mini-IVF good for?
    -How long does Mini-IVF take?
    -Is Mini-IVF cheaper?
-Can Mini-IVF improve egg quality if you had poor egg quality from conventional IVF?
-Questions from our FertilitySpace Instagram followers:
    1. I had 4 follicles during conventional IVF. Would mini-IVF produce fewer follicles?
    2. Can you [do needle-free IVF] if you have a low [ovarian] reserve, had two failed ICSI cycles and have tight funds available?

    Needle-Free IVF:
Needle-free IVF is an option Dr. Zaher offers to his fertility patients that are afraid of needles and want to avoid injections or even for women who have difficult veins, making blood draws difficult.
In needle-free IVF, instead of fertility injections, women take fertility medications in the form of pills and nasal spray.
    Mini-IVF:
Mini-IVF stands for minimal stimulation IVF, in which women take much less fertility medication than what is typical of an IVF cycle.
It is also referred to as Gentle IVF is used by Dr. Merhi and he uses this treatment in the clinic to treat women with low ovarian reserve (diminished ovarian reserve) and has seen this improve egg quality.
    Who is Mini-IVF best for?
According to Rejuvating Fertility Center's site, you are a good candidate for Mini-IVF if:
You want to minimize the cost of the fertility injections
You want to minimize the amount of chemicals into your body
You have Low Ovarian Reserve: Low AMH or High FSH
Your are poor responder to the high stimulation by the Conventional IVF protocols
You produce poor-quality eggs/embryos after the high stimulation by the Conventional IVF protocols
You had multiple failed Conventional IVF cycles
You are at risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS)
You do not want to produce surplus embryos for religious or ethical reasons

Thank you for the great videos! I subscribed immediately!
Question: I wonder if we can combine mini-IVF & PRP rejuvenation in the treatment?
I have very low AMH (0.3 on May 2022), 1 miscarriage (12 November 2022), and 1 failed IVF (27 December 2022) as the only oocytes they managed to retrieve didn't develop well. My ob-gyn gave me full IVF for this cycle. With this result, he said we'll try mini-IVF in the next cycle.
A few seconds into this video, I realized he should have done mini-IVF from the start!

You’re so welcome! Glad that you’ve found the videos helpful!
Yes! Based on what we learned from our conversation with Dr. Merhi, you could do PRP treatment first and then you should aim to do your Mini-IVF within 3 months after PRP.
But make sure to discuss all options with your doctor so you make a decision that is best for your situation.
Best of luck with your upcoming treatment!! I hope it goes well! 💕

@@fertilityspace Thank you so much! Does within 3 months also mean I can do mini IVF after the 1st month of PRP?

      @@HeiZhuZai you’re welcome!
Our blog post of our interview with Dr. Merhi about PRP and timing might be helpful to check out: fertilityspace.io/blog/prp-for-ivf-and-fertility-everything-you-should-know-about-ovarian-rejuvenation
He shares that in his experience, it takes about two weeks to see the effects of PRP but that can vary. And then the effect is gone 3 months after PRP treatment. This is what he’s seen generally and it can vary.
Your doctor will likely recommend specific timing based on their protocol for you!

Im not fussed about needles, I just think it's pointless to give me loads of expensive drugs if they're only going to get 1-3 eggs anyway. May as well do less drugs and get better quality eggs, surely?
My egg quality was really good anyway, even with the high dose drugs so I suppose the major difference will be cost.

My point exactly! Why put my body through all that and the results and the outcomes are not that worth it.
